I am currently renovating a 100 y/o home on my own and have watched a ton of mudding videos! Yours, by far is the best I've come across! I was told by multiple contractors that this would be too hard for me to do on my own and that I should just replace my plaster with drywall, but check me out! They were wrong! I'm doing it with the help of awesome folks like you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

This lady is wonderful. There are soooo many "experts out there" that are persuasive. And lord have mercy on you if you follow their advice. When I started doing wall repairs around the home about 3 years ago I found this tutorial. Since then, as the size of the repair grew, I returned to this video again and again. Today Im confidently attacking a 30 x 12 ft wall. Thank you Leah!

You know what? You are freaking awesome at this. You clearly know what you are doing but, to be honest, there are a ton of people on RU-vid that know what they are doing (and even more that don't but act like they do!), where you excel is how you teach that information. I've actually commented before on one of your videos and said the same thing. I hope you are still making videos. I'd rather learn from you than most. Thank you for the great tutorial. I recently skimmed a wall and was so pleased with how it looked after applying the finishing coat.. However, once the wall had dried I was left with several stubborn spots.. I'm about to try again and hopefully il be a but more successful this time and just wanted to wish you good luck too..

@@paulinebladen925 here's something that took me a while to figure out: I was trying to "feather" with the ten inch knife, like I saw on another video, but it didn't work for me. But then I just started doing the edges with my four inch wide knife, and it was so much easier. I used a six inch wide one for most of it. I think because my upper body strength isn't great, using a smaller knife helped a lot. Hope this idea may be helpful to you, wishing you luck also 🙏

What I normally do is to run a screed, and then use an angle float to define my angles. However, as a DIY--er, your best bet is to use a corner trowel. And we do have a video on what that looks like and how to use it. They are made predominantly for drywall, but you can use it in this situation. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cr-vImEx3UM.html

Wow, the way she did shows how experienced she is, it takes time to learn. One question can it be done on already badly painted wall before painting the wall again, or we we need to first sand off old paint and then do this process.
@seejanedrill
@seejanedrill 8 лет назад
Hi Navraj, if the wall is sound, the paint is sound and is not a glossy paint, then yes, you can just skim over it, because the joint compound contains a bonding agent. Another option, however, is you may not need to skim out the whole wall if you just have a bad area. The process is a little different. You just skim the bad area, and taper out the edges to the good area. With this technique you would need to sand though.
@seejanedrill
@seejanedrill 8 лет назад
Oh, and for the second technique, you would use a pre-mixed joint compound.

Wow this was extremely satisfying to watch, I was told I'd have to knock the whole wall down and build new to fix my gramas bumpy walls

Thank you!! Everything is explained so well! I'm going to give it a go on my kitchen walls this weekend (smallest space to start with). Fingers crossed!! At least I have a whole house of splotchy/cracked plaster of practice to get it right!! Plus, I really want to like doing it!! I think it's right up my alley!

Hey Jill, I always suggest that people start out in an area that is not so noticeable (a closet is a good place, but I don't know if you have one in your kitchen), practice until you get the feel of it, and then go on to the walls that everyone can see. Good luck with your project!

Thanks for this I just plastered a small wall looked like crap lines every where, no video on RU-vid explains plastering for hardcore idiots, but you helped me big time, copyed your vid and now it looks really good.
