Draw your surface as smooth as you can right out of the gate (pen). The technique saves smoothing time and enables you to make lines as wide as you desire. Groundbreaking method of filling in any 3d pen project that requires a solid surface. Great information for artists, STEM teachers, art teachers, homeschooling parents, crafters, and all 3D pen enthusiasts.

Its great how you use everyday tools for projects - first play doh and now a spatula - makes it so much more approachable. Thanks for the great ideas.

3d pens are still the new kids on the block. So it's up to the first group of users to figure out what tools we need for this. I am sure the industry will have all kinds of specialized gadgets to sell to us in a few years, but untill then we are stuck with figuring out which other disciplins to borrow tools from. But figuring it out is part of the fun. :)

I like this technique! Seems to be way faster! Also you answered a question I had, I was wondering if the clay tools will melt with the hot filament. Now I can confidently purchase one set 🎉

Anything made from silicone is safe. Even most rubber. Beware of plastic stuff I fried some tools that were made for use with polymer clays. Also I use exclusively PLA so I can't speak too much to the filaments that melt at little higher temps.

Very cool concept! I'm honestly a bit surprised that they don't make some kind of tips/shaped nozzles for 3D pens to do that kind of widening automatically. But I guess maybe they would clog too bad or something.

I am actually thinking what would be really helpful would be some kind of removable silicone attachment that would clip onto a pen and drag behind it. Like a little roller or some such. But it would have to be clever so it doesn't cause more trouble then it solves. This works pretty well and I got the spatula at a dollar store so it represents a minimal expense.

i am very impressed. can i add something to this prjest. it may work. Find a flat rectangular sheet of plastic (instead of the silicone you used) cut a 2 cm wide 1 millimeter section at the bottom from this plastic. Use that piece of plastic just like you use on the ground the silicone piece right after the pencil. The aim here is that the plastic piece will touch the ground and move straight, it wil not a up and down movement. the plastic that comes out of the pen will come out straight from that 2 cm wide and 1 millimeter thick gap. you can also increase the height to 2-3 millimeters. let me know if you done this :) (if you want i can draw the project for you)

Sounds like a good thought to try. It will need to be a plastic that does not react to the heat of the filament. Any suggestions?

Hi! Great video. Thank you for the cool tutorial!! ❤❤❤ Couldn't you name the tool for smoothing, used in the beginning?

It's a woodburning tool with a leaf tip. More on that in these videos: How to smooth 3d pen projects without burn marks ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3rHJW-6K_hk.html 9 reasons to get a wood burning tool if you have a 3d pen ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IHpmzxrLNik.html
