Great video and info! Just had a bathroom remodeled and kids were complaining of a slow drain while showering. Turns out the bell was seating too low in the open position. Took off the cover and made the adjustment now drains like a charm. Thanks!
You are a wonderful person thank you so much for your tutorial!!!! I used a 15ft manual Drain cleaner cable and I followed your instructions your awesome the problem was solved and money was saved!!! I’m a single mother of three so I highly appreciate this presentation!!! My kids and myself Thank you for sharing your video!!! God bless you!🙏🏻
I've been researching this issue lately and this is the only video I came across which is clearly explaining the difference between the two drain openings in a bathtub. Thank you so much for this valuable contribution.
Thanks, I got mine working better than when we moved in 5yrs ago, it was always a slow drain until it recently became a NO drain. I just used the cheap manual 50ft snake for under $40. I didn't realize how hard it was to get through the trap until watching this. And that twisting method worked beautifully.
Hands down, this is the best video out there for unclogging a bathtub drain. Straight forward, logical, & concise. I really appreciate the explanations of WHY you should do it this way & the tip to grease the fittings before reassembling isn't found anywhere else. I fixed our bathtub this morning following your instructions to the letter and it works like a champ now. You just saved us a ton of money, assuming I could even get a plumber to come out here in the snow. Thanks! A 65 year old handy-wife.
You can say that again, trying to unclog a tub through the tub shoe is almost if not practically impossible. The way that I was taught to unclog tubs is through the overflow tube/standing waste tube.Good video my Brother.
Thank you so much! I have been fighting with the bottom drain for weeks. I followed your instructions and I was able to remove the clog with a mini manual hand auger. I really appreciate you taking the time to give a thorough explanation of how everything works and how to do this properly. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this video . I didn't end up needing a snake, just a good plunging. It's a good feeling fixing a problem like this yourself, but I couldn't have done it without your video.😁👍
You just made my day, I’ve had this clog of hair in the drain for days and I got a Manuel auger snake to handle it. Until I saw your video, I didn’t realize I was getting stuck in the pipe trap! So with the help of my mom turning the auger and me applying pressure in the pipe, we finally got it through and fished a monster hair clog!!! I cannot thank you enough!!!🎉🎉🎉❤
Thank you for this video just wanted to say my sister went in the hardware store and the cashier told her not to buy any drain cleaner just put a whole bottle of dawn dish soap and let it sit for 45 minutes . well i put a whole bottle of dish soap in the tub drain and then i put boiling hot water and left it over night and my drain is clear. awesome just wanted to share
Great video, Danny. I watched quite a few but you were the only person to provide the secret to getting the snake to go down the shower drain. I tried for hours and no go. Then I saw that you said to bend the tip of the snake a little like you have yours bent. And, bingo! down the drain the snake went. Before it just kept bottoming out and stopping and I couldn't push it in anymore. But with the bend, I was able to snake about 20 feet of pipe and pull out the hair blockage and clear the drain. Thanks, Danny, great stuff!
Thanks so much for this tutorial, I purchased a cobra skinny snake and followed other tutorials and got the result you demonstrated with the snake going up. Yours was the only tutorial I saw that showed to do it that way. Again thank you so much!
You saved me soooo much time and effort. I thought I was going to have to remove the drain insert. Before watching your video I purchased a new one from the big Orange store for $25. I'm not a plumber so I never thought of going through the overflow. I didn't pull any gunk out, i just kept going a few more feet and ran hot water.
Wow man your awesome , thank you soo much , had this tub clogged for 3 months was afraid to try unclogging it , did it your way with a $30 drum w/drill adapter and walls it’s done . Saved me $175 easy
I use a gallon of nitroglycerin. That way the pipes are completely oblivious to anything. Just be sure and weare safety glassses. I wounder if u could use carbolic acid and a jetter hose nozel.
Second video of yours that I've seen. Great content, great editing, and really super helpful. I pick up all kinds of tips that I wouldn't have anticipated. Thanks.
Great video! Problem was I thought once it stopped that was as far as it could go. Then I saw your video yo keep feeding the cable and rotation while pushing forcefully . I kept doing that back and forth next thing I knew the water started to go down. Prior to your video I was fighting with the auger for an hour and half. After your video 20 mins And I pulled up so much disgusting gunk. Thank you 😊 very informative.
I’ve snaked my outside clean out on my main bathroom tub for awhile now. I tried the tub once.. to no real avail.. this video did the trick! A ton of old hair from the last home owner! Thanks for saving me money!!
I was in this same situation and trying a drill and snake and it was too powerful . I ended up getting a handheld and pushed it through and it worked great. You saved me at least 300. Thank you.
Thanks for showing this technique. Going thru the trap and down with just a closet auger, I was able to pull a giant hair clog out. Tub drains now. Family happier.
i have a problem, whenever i run the shower upstairs, the kitchen sink clogs and backs up. i snaked the kitchen sink with a 50 ft snake and it still backs up with the shower on. what should i do now? snake the tub?
Thanks for sharing a pgreat deal of knowledge, so I don't have a snake like that. Mine is $1.25 grabber from D.T. More so FOR hair& stuff like that & those ridgids grasp onto easy. I had dropped a big round shampoo lid & it went dwn into my drain but let me say this 1st , it had standing water in the drain befoe this happened , it takes forever for the water to go out, but u still have wster in drain, u can see it, of course, lol... sorry about that silly statement, but you can still see it😂 Oh my ....my apologies . Im the man & woman here. I do everything... plumber, small tool ,mower, weedeater. repair mechanic. Lol😱😡 His reply, not true, I cook "most of the time " & I mow ,he replied...ok, We have an acre & 1/2 ,push mower, riding mower in the shop, I weedeat around the fence of perimeter, landscaping, boarders ,2 steep banks & thats on both sides od fence , also run cattle when they get out or taking them to markett. All of that not needed but its like my mind is scattered as I was saying it takes the water forever to go dwn & the water faucets , hot wont & cold both drip & its getting worse. I used to turn tne faucets back a little bit & a tad bit forward & that would do better for a week or so but it is so much worse, steady, consistent, faster, . Iused a shop vac today to try to retrieve the lid or anything elsebut it didnt work or i dont know how to use .LOL..I bought it a couple of days ago specifically for the Bathtub. 😢 Thanks for your share and Thankyou for your help if u can help me or some tips it would tremendously help me. By the way, its an old Bathtub, I live in a 1973 cabin, but the logs are older than that. 80 /90 yrs old which was from another piece if land andtook them dwn 1 by1 from another house. Alot of work, it had to have been . But i wanted to tell you about that to let you know , i guess it might make a difference. Thanks so much !!! So g Verypull/grab whatever may be in there, but not very good togʻol.
Thank you! Great video. I currently have problems with a clog due to tree roots in the main drain line going from the bathrooms to the septic tank. That's going to take my handyman with his roto-rooter auger. But, what does it mean when the drain makes that sound that the one did in your video only its not draining? It's just like it's burping from down in the line. A small amount of water had drained out and about a minute later the burping sound started and it lasted for 2 or 3 minutes.
Hi, my plug is not working. Water is draing over hours after shower. I pulled the bottom drain shield thingy. I cant get the top off..but when i try to snake the bottom hole there is something hard there. I thought plug was stuck up... But after watching your vid im not sure what it could be .. ill keep trying to get top screws off. Also what kind of Hrease r u using please. I saw in one vid a guy using CLR an boat grease. Can you tell me what you use sir. Thank you for your vid.. i also dont have a mechanical spinny thingy.. ill have to try to snake by hand once objec is out of way. Do you think it might be the bell on the plug..broke off?? Or dangling from trying to unplug an release water.. 😢😢😢 mom ..in horrible situation. Ty
We paid a plumber last year to snake the tub and he didn't pull out (what I just learned is called) the trip lever and it was ineffective. It was an eye-opener to watch your demonstration on how the snake went in the wrong direction! Now I see two possible problems: (1) there is still a clog, and/or (2) the trip lever is not properly adjusted. I'm going to try snaking the tub myself based on this video.
Every time I snaked from the top, the snake came out of the side of the floor drain side pipe. So this video helped not at all since you do mention that phenomenon. 👎🏼😢
I aint got a snake, and I might not have a screw driver and the roommates are expecting me to fix the tub and ugh fml... but thank you for this information
I was about to give up after 40 minutes not getting past the trap. I took a 5 minute break and tried again and I was able to feed about 15 ft into the plumbing. I stopped because I ran out of line. My snake has a thumb screw which has to be loosened and tightened every time, that’s why it was so difficult. Next time I’ll invest in a new one.
