@@Djmada78 yeah, I like the environment of the craftsman. My shop is my zen place. Cheap as music score isn't my zen place. This is an artist working in his zen place and we got to visit.
I hate when you start watching a video, and the guy spends half the time talking crap. Thank for keeping it to the point. Would have liked to see some info regarding the material used, but that's just me. Thanks.
The most comfortable long-term comfort motorcycle seats I have had on the dozens of motorcycles I have owned since 1968, have been the seats that were shaped most like a horse saddle, with very little padding. I believe soft is not comfortable long-term for more than an hour… The most comfortable motorcycle seat I ever had was the stock seat on my BMW K 1200 LT. The rest of the motorcycle I cannot see too many good things about, so much so that I’ll never buy another BMW, but that thing had a seat I could sit on for 500 mile days. It wasn’t soft, it was not plush, it was not mushy like the stock seed on my gold wing GL 1800. It was firm. Same with mattresses. I can’t sleep on a too soft mattress..
Most important is not the firmness but shape. Like a bicycle saddle. If you find one that fits you it doesn't need much padding. The reason why soft padding hurts is cause it doesn't hold it's shape.
Highly depends on the particular ass has been my experience. And, of course, the foam and it’s shape. Some asses can’t handle particular firm foams. There are tailbone issues, nerve issues, etc.. Some can sit on rock hard chairs. Some can’t.
After watching a number of these videos I can honestly say that this appears to be the best one on here. The others? Well, let's just say that there has to be a place for amateurs in the world.........
Oh bummer! Awesome video... but you are on the wrong side of the pond! Just curious, but I see you use a saw to cut the foam. What is the advantage vs a hot wire? You've inspired me to find a spare seat and give it a go! Thank you for the awesome video!!
Would you use this method as a way to soften a vehicle cushion? I have a 11 Dodge Durango with seats like bricks. Im going to instal heated seats but would like to soften my seat foam while I'm in there.
I remember the days they used to sell me that here in Canada on my parents t.v. They showed the so called angles supposedly protecting a concert. I am really interested in uppolustry I just find the freedom of safe communication safe and I am grateful to be inside my house! I really hope we can find a nice safe modern way where people can just see all the time and enjoy thier items without sacrifice!
i like seeing what others do , i have recovered a lot of seats and like to see how others do it .ty i have question how would you add more, thicker cushion ? would you still cut or just add on top ? ty sincerely deb
Depends how the customer wanted it, if it’s just to raise the seat I’d add to the bottom of foam to keep original shape just higher,if foam is to hard and want raising I’d add to top, more difficult to do as you have to sculpture foam to make sure profile sits right on bike, all seats will be different some are just not possible, had a customer ask before raise the seat 2” in the middle but keep it looking exactly the same 🤣
John Paul San Agustin hi I used vinyl on this seat, you can use sofa leatherette as it is pretty much the same thing, just be aware that it’s not the real cheep stuff which sofas generally use as all the surface colour peels off ! If there is any sign of cracking, peeling on the surface do not use! Thanks for watching John
Kinda nice to see a video without loud music by a band I would never listen to other wise just missing explaining what you're doing and why during you doing it
Espi nete hi I assume you are talking about the yellow one, it’s called a SURF FORM, I got mine from B&Q but most DIY shops sell them. Thanks for watching John
The tool you are referring to is called a rasp or rigid foam shaping tool and they are commonly sold in places like Home Depot. While they can be used on foam rubber to smooth it they are a slow process since they only take a very small amount with each stroke. If you have access to a small 4 or 5 inch angle grinder fitted with a 60 grit sanding disc you can do the same thing in a fraction of the time. If you are using an angle grinder, use light strokes as it will remove the foam very rapidly. When used properly, the grinder will give you good results in no time at all. The grey material used to cover the foam after it is shaped is in fact 1/4" foam sheeting and it will cover small defects in the modified main foam structure leaving a smooth surface for the vinyl cover. Another video dealing with the same type of seat is available here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vLN3mldZUsA.html
Amazing! A man who knows what he's doing, doing what he knows how to do. It warms the heart to know that such craftsmen have not fallen from the face of the earth. An honor to see you at work.
The most professional job I've seen on RU-vid. Pity you don't talk us through what you're doing. Especially cutting and stretching of the fabric. Thanks!
It's not a pity. It's a blessing. Unlike way too many utubers that think their video is about them and not about the subject, this guy goes right to work from frame one and doesn't waste a single second of my time.
Excellent work Mr. Hurt! The true Masters of their trade make it look easy...but you've given me hope that I may be able to attempt such fine work as you've shown here! And THANK YOU btw, for the complete lack of annoying ice-pick-in-the-ears, grinding metal music, Made for a very enjoyable watch!
Reminds me of a seat i had done by "Bespoke" over 16 years ago cost £250 and worth every penny transformed the comfort for trips over to Spain etc . It was like sitting in a favorite arm chair (happy Daz)
You make that look so damn easy. I had a crack at doing my seat on the weekend, yeah nah, made a mess of it. It's off to the pro's now. Well done, cheers mate.
Thanks for no stupid music! Missed a bit of your fine work (out of camera range), and the lighting wasn't quite enough for the dark upholstery at times. Seat looked great, and I bet comfy too
Great job. I have a question: I have a 2021 Yamaha mt07 that I would like to have 1"-2" of foam taken out from the seat and maybe replace it with a gel pad? I stand tip-toed on my bike and before I think about lowering the suspension, I'd rather try this way. Any idea how much it would cost and if I replace the foam with the gel pad will I still benefit from the seat being shorter? Thanks and consider me a subscriber to your channel. 👍😃
Great job. I'm re-doing a Mustang two-up seat for an Electra Standard for a guy and I'm going to soften it up a bit for him. What kind of foam are you using to mold in? And is this 4 way stretch vinyl you're using? I'm using black marine 4 way stretch from Your Auto Trim Store in MS. and I hope it turns out okay. Thanks for sharing this.
Hello and thank you for the inspiring video. I just have one question... what kind of scraper is this? I can't find it anywhere in upholstery shops. Thank you.
Came here to check the process, cos I wanted to re do my own motorcycle seat. Got a air stapler and other needed tools. But unfortunately they charge so much for the materials here in the Philippines, that the total costs are more than double the price of a new Yamaha stock seat. At least , if want the same quality and not the cheap stuff from the smaller upholstery shops here. Or they charge for expensive foam , while they used old used foam, will only see when replace it again.
You've done this before, methinks! Very good video, clear and strangely mezmerizing! Very much appreciate the directness of everyrhing- no words or music needed. Thanks!
Trying to figure out how to come up with a cushion for the scooter I bought recently. As of now it has nothing but the saddle/base covered in duck tape
