Knowing whether your measurement system is up to the task or not is great, of course. But if your gage R&R study concludes that your measurement is not up to specs, where do you start improving the system?
The numbers calculated in the R&R formula's give you a good indication of which part of the measurement system needs correcting. It's not for nothing that the repeatability number is also known as equipment variance, reproducibility as operator variance. Together with part-to-part variance they tell a tale of how your measurement values are produced.
