Yes, because everyone in India wants to live in Bengaluru because of the weather. But now that sooo many people are living in the city, the weather of Bengaluru is becoming bad and also, the water is being dried up
+ IT czars who provided unregulated number of jobs to migrants and enslaved them by 20 year loans thus making circuit between banks , IT outsourcing and RajySabha and England PMship
Thankyou for sharing this. Can’t believe we are paying such high taxes, practising waste segregation, conserving water in consumption and still there is no long term initiative to fix this. Government is more concerned about % of KannadaOnNameboards .
absolutely, because paying taxes is clearly the pinnacle of environmental activism. I mean, who needs to plant trees when you can just toss your cash at the government and call it a day, right? And of course, parking under trees definitely balances out any environmental harm, because trees magically appear out of thin air, don't they? And let's not forget how the USA government's track record of war and ecological destruction really screams "nature lover." Who needs accountability when you can just sit back and hope the local government will magically fix everything? Yeah, let's just keep sitting on our hands saying "i paid tax" Brilliant plan.
Karnataka politicians are similar to Bihari politicians... They all want to amass huge wealth ! It is with the help of government officials and political bigwigs the builders have illegally encroached the water bodies like lakes in and around bangalore since time immemorial... Now this political mafia is harassing the public with crazy rules.
He is the real expert. Others are thinking old way like borewells Preserve rajakaluve with lakes. They were 10 metre wide connected lakes and prevented flooding
Today its Bangalore, tomorrow it will be your City. We saw it coming and still didn't do anything. Its frustrating what this govt is doing. Political parties just know how to do good PR , nothing else.
Yes! I have seen this coming , living in this beautiful city from last 20 years, came here in 2004, it was indeed great city, people were humble, now road rage, anger on road, people are ready to take fight, north Indian south India heat is hitting, North Indian thinks Hindi is national language (which is not). unplanned growth, lack of visionary leadership.SM Krishna was great mind rest is history
Well companies should think to set up there infrastructure in other parts of India. No one wants to come Bangalore. All the MNC force and give joining in Bangalore. What a person will do he will follow what his company wants. No one wants to come to so far in south.
SM Krishna built ORR, encouraged the Builder Mafia by sanctioning Building in Plans without any forethought. He also reduced the revenue sources of BBMP by allocating the revenue earned from Property Registration Revenues to the State Government. Building the ORR killed Dakshina Pinakini river.
Yes you are right brother. North Indian are the main culprit of bangluru's water crisis, they are the one who drank all the vainglorious water. They encroached all the beautiful lakes and build their huts on top of it. No politician or native banglorian is responsible for this crisis. North Indians are the only one responsible for the crisis appearing in bangluru. Only banglorians are the pure race in the whole of India. North Indians are too white, but real color of banglorian is dark brown. North Indians should immediately vacate the place because they are drinking too much of water. They Drink 2 glass more water than banglorians....
In our office, there is a leak in a tap. There is not a single person who l bring it to the notice of the concerned department to ensure its rectified at the earliest. As I am the only person who is bringing it to the notice of that department, they are ignoring it & water is being wasted continuously. I think this type of issue is there in most of the places. Nowadays, people don't even mind paying the hefty bills, they l say summer, so bill has increased.
10 yrs ago when me and my husband wer looking for a flat to purchase around itpl whitefield, our family friend was working as a bank manager, so we went and spoke to him abt our plans to invest in flat in whitefield, he told 10 yrs ago, that there will be severe water problems in the future in n around that area, and he advised me not to invest, we listned ti him and didn't invest, its seems soo surreal to me, what he predicted a decade ago, we are witnessing today
Everyone knew this would happen. But somehow thought it would never affect them personally and it would be someone else’s problem. Lakes were being filled in front of our eyes and no one batted an eye. It would take atleast 15 years to make Bengaluru a sustainable liveable city. That is , if we do something now. Else this would be an abandoned city soon. A sad reality 😢😢😢
As there is a old saying - *_We are cutting the tree branch where we are sheltering in._* That tree branch can be of local ecosystem/natural resources/blue planet earth! Thank you Faye and Dr TV Ramachandra sir for highlighting the root causes of the water crisis (in bangalore or anywhere), uncovering the ground realities and the immediate need of acting for sustainable development which upkeeps the cleaner water & air and optimal green cover for the people present& for future generations. *Thank you for the sincere efforts & taking time in highliting the problems and best solutions. Quite informative & everyone should know these for awareness sake and to act with responsibility be it governance body or an individual.* Losing that 5,000 hectare forestation is such a sad & bad thing. True GDP with green gdp measure is a great mentioning. If continue to neglect like in passed decades be it authorities/individuals/mafias abuse.. then it'll be of self harming. If not planning to correct/succeed then we are planning/progressing to fail. Once again many thanks to Faye & Team and Dr TV sir🙏
Really good interview mam Good suggestions by Dr.TV Ramachandra Hope it will be implemented sooner to save 'Namma Bengaluru' Good example of saraki lake sir
Whats happened is happened. What appalls me is the attitude of the government now, at this situation. They are not talking about solutions. Imposing fines on the usage of drinking water to wash cars etc. isn't enough.
No matter what measures the govt manage to execute this year, think of all the apartments, malls and tech campuses currently being built all over Bangalore now. Once people start living in these, the amount of water that will be extracted from Cauvery and borewells will lead to an even worse situation by the same time next year. It's incredible that permissions are still being granted for all this construction. With AI and recession eating up IT jobs, one can expect a significant reduction in the workforce, and also a significant shrinking in pay packages for the workers that remain. Businesses already grappling with traffic issues now also have to deal with employees demanding WFH because of water issues. How long before they decide to cut their losses set up base elsewhere? If you thought lakes drying up was bad, wait till the IT money dries up! That's when the real crisis will hit!
Actually that would solve the problem.. It's the over crowding that's creating the problem.. Along with destruction of lakes and nature. Let the money go m. Be poor but atleast there won't be traffic and pollution anymore. Bengaluru wasn't built for this purpose at all.. Maybe wherever they shift has some amt of fore thinking and won't experience the same nonsense
To anudeepmaurya, I understand your POV, but who will take the call of who gets to live in the city and who doesn't. When your entire life is dependent on being able to earn a certain amount of money to sustain a lifestyle you aspire to for yourself, for your family and children - will anyone be willing to let it go for their family so someone else can live in the cities ? if we all stop earning what happens to taxes ? GDP ? what will become of the country. No easy answers here, and the IT demise is likely to happen within this generation itself. Feels like we are headed for doomsday.
@@anudeepmayura11 Overcrowding is not a problem, it's a symptom. The underlying problem is greed. All of this was allowed to happen unchecked over decades. Suddenly if the crowds reduce, it's not going to solve anything, the damage has been done.
Absolutely! Man! Ramachandra is spot on, like insights into this city's water crisis are like a beacon of light in a murky pond. His foresight in predicting this crisis years ago is commendable, but it's disheartening to see his warnings fall on deaf ears of the government. As his proposals to rejuvenate lakes and rethink city planning sound like a breath of fresh air, some of his suggestions might need a reality check (I personally think so). cause, relocating all industries overnight sounds like a herculean task, and holding bureaucrats accountable might be easier said than done, don't you think? And let's talk about his idea of redefining economic metrics to include environmental costs. It sounds revolutionary, but how do we even begin to implement such a monumental change? It's like trying to teach you old dog new tricks. I hope my criticism don't bring him down, but while watching the interview i had these questions in mind (seeing the non-corporating behavior of the residents here). But I must say that ramachandra's proposals to fix lakes and implement immediate water management measures are like a lifeline for Bangalore. With the city boiling under the scorching sun, we need pragmatic solutions more than ever, we need to start AT LEAST. In the end, it's a delicate balance between visionary thinking and practical action. And his ideas, though sometimes sound lofty, serve as a rallying cry for us to wake up and smell the coffee. After all, saving Bengaluru's water isn't just about big ideas; it's about rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty. It's everyone's responsibility. I'm from North India, living in bangalore since 2017, I've seen changes and rapid grown in front of my own eyes, and of course the drastic change in weather. Some people may don’t like me commenting reality here. But we need to be one.
As much as politicians and bureaucrats we the citizens are also responsible. Momentary thinking, short term goals focused. We never cared when buying such properties which are in low lying areas, never checked the details of the builder agreements and khata papers because all we cared is having a luxury home.
I hope the govt has the sense to listen to Dr. Ramachandra. I'm from Delhi but I sympathize with Bangaloreans. What happened to 'Smart cities '?? Decrease population pressure by building and shifting economic activity in other cities, decrease the population pressure in Delhi and Bangalore.
Local citizens who own individual houses are also responsible for this situation by not taking rain water harvesting and borewell recharge seriously. I hope with the points mentioned by Sir, people awaken, become civilized and act seriously.
sir please change your mind set that except you others are irresponsible citizens .Understand ,rain water harvesting and other efforts may be small participation of common man (may be 0.1 percent support to ground water management) . 80 percent of the vegetation in bangalore destroyed ,Thousands water bodies ocean like lakes are being closed and converted as apartments and politicians and real estate people are taking bath in money .For how many you have raised your voice so far
Solutions Known..... But Not Followed..... Lack of implementation is our biggest problem today. We have reports after reports, advisories after advisories, but without timebound implemention.... all are just words. People of Bengaluru are equally responsible like the bureaucrats and the government (irrespective of any party) in creating this monster. Town planning is a joke in India, which state has a structured town planning ministry. Killing of lakes, ponds, rivers, mangroves has become our national hobby in the sake of greed for more. We all are responsible for this disaster and running away from the city is an cowardly act by so called educated IT class. Akanda Bharat 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳 Jai Hind
I lived in Hosapete in Karnataka. When I use to visit Bangalore in 2012 it felt amazing. The weather was beautiful. Summer don’t seem like summer unlike in Hospaete where the temperature rises upto 40. Now I’m living in Bangalore and in 2024 I can’t believe that this is Bangalore. It’s damn hot here. Would request the government to please rejuvenate the lakes and the green area too
if you shift industries to far ends of bangalore or different cities, for example Kanakapura or Hubli being the next IT hub - with Bangalore traffic it makes impossible to travel daily, unless people sell their houses in Bangalore and buy or rent there. avoid adding more apartment complex, restore lakes and resolve cauvery water crisis with other states, what we have and need v/s what we can give
That is not possible they will do any development now only freebies. And they will not do any development in Hubli or belgaum forget it or even other parts of Karnataka like Mangalore etc .
Sir, you speak quite holistically. I would vote for you if you given a chance. Or you could be in the upper house... or nominated. We need people like you. Thinking deeper, we may get solutions to why people encroach lakes. This was a small part I may have some reservations, regarding being ruthless, although you may not meant to sound harsh probably. Maybe employers need to compulsorily provide 20 sq. metres per head for every non local person employed in a place. Overall I liked the way and agree with most things you said. Thank you Faye for bringing him. Goa is undergoing land-use change too. Goa will face problems some years later. May we awaken. Andrew Millison's video on Trees and water is quite informative. Pope Francis' Laudato Si' is a broader writing on Climate Change. Scientists need to go beyond science to the humanities, jurisprudence, divinities. May God protect us all.
Rainwater harvesting by individuals in their homes and apartments and side drains and STPs by government while saving lakes and rivers plus i have done rainwater harvesting from past 12 years and I have no issues plus our area vibhuthipura lake is in good condition
Over population is one of the reasons, as Dr T V Ramachandra says there is something called carriage ability which has exceeded in Bengaluru, n development should happen in all walks of life n every town n city of Karnataka not alone in Bengaluru, they can construct apartments to accomodate people but can someone provide water to this many ppl???
Bangalore has reached a point of no return . Politicians who have major stakes in IT parks don’t want the companies to move out of Bangalore. Sad state of affairs.
Why we are planning the city when it reached its bottom? We don't expect much from politicians but sad part is the visionaries like Narayan Murthy,Ramchandra Guha can't lead a protest of like minded people and punish administration.
Delhi and Bangalore are both successful cities in terms of agglomeration economies. It also implies unchecked migration and growth of these cities. However there is a threshold of how much population a city can handle, this implies there must be growth of allied cities in the region around these agglomerations. They will grow fast and take pressure off these larger agglomerations.
I have a humble suggestion. BWSSB should fix a maximum quantity of consumption of water per house. Next highly penalise the people who have not followed the rules regarding rain harvesting. Some people have resorted to cosmetic arrangements for rain harvesting.
Gentleman, As we know, Bengaluru is the richest city in India, why dont we think of Desalination plants. We could run pipelines to bring seawater from Mangalore same like we have pipelines to bring kavery water from Mysore. We have great relations with Middle eastern countries ( UAE, Saudi, etc) where population survives only on desalination plants. We can have JV’s with gulf countries to develop desalination plants to cater Bengaluru where there are no rivers. ( only rain water harvesting). Gentleman let us not have blame culture , rather provide the ideas and support each other. Regards Fairoz Ahmed Bengaluru.
The saddest part is the Politicians had seen the city in their Childhood....How could they bear the city to bring to this condition.....It's them only and municipal corporation who could have stopped it..... At first , they are Human being,....Later on anything else..... It is a big lesson for Every City, the Government..... They should know the limit of their own land.... No Water..... No Life... . Then who you People going to Rule.....Who will Vote....?????
The current political dispensation is arrogant and doesn’t seem to even consider the opinion of experts in solving Bengaluru’s problems! It’s only concerned about distributing freebies!
Nothing will happen unless we have better, more visionary and responsible politicians and political leaders allowing good sense, scientific thinking , long term planning and implement capable expert solutions.
Storm water channels spoiled. Lakes/tanks are dried and allowed to build apartments. Everywhere concrete/tiles footpaths, leaving no space to flow rain water into earth, thereby ground water shortage. Administrators, builders, spoiled the water resources.
IISc Bangalore + IIT Dharward. Should work on Climate Change + Drought Situation + Water Crisis in Karnataka. These People should send Report to Central Water Commission and State Government. Disilting of Lakes is important and New Lakes + Garden should be Built. River should be Integrated. North Bangalore and Tumkur Should be Developed. So as to Decongest South Bangalore.
Politicians unplanned and unchecked growth of real estate sector is the root cause of this scarcity. It's time they go back to history to learn civic management contributed by learned like Kuvempu.....who had developed many lakes with foresight of future.....but the land mafia has ruined all lakes to fill their coffins by building apartments.
THE CURRENT CONGRESS GOVT OF KARNATAKA GAVE KAVERI WATER TO TAMIL NADU o.o This was as expected. Karnataka did not have enough water to share several months ago. The Congress Govt is responsible for this, every one know in Bangalore.
@@moshemoshe5201 o.o no, ur karma is to bend & give it to your politicians. Now, because ur rat nest has grown out of your state borders, your karma is coming, prepare ur rear gear
@@moshemoshe5201 But it is also Karnataka's congress party fault. When you do not have water at home, you should not give it to neighbours. Bangalore is growing city, o.o did u giv Karnataka ur Tamil madar for one ratri, to ask for water that is not yours?
Those were the days when Gmail... Yahoo etc were not there...and we were using the net address for emails... Sri SM Krishna was CM then... I wrote to him to incorporate Ring Main all along Ring Road.... which could definitely help in distribution of water on either side up to seven to eight kms... He appreciated the proposal ...but it didn't happen... BWSSB would have benefited hugely in proper distribution of water and in reducing leakages
debates on real estate and returns, upcoming locations for faster returns etc etc, greed over need, now we have to run away from our own investments. Surplus of earnings or smart choices of investments shall never be beyond end usage. Exploiting natural resources hits back, hits back to an extent of no future and yet most of our TRPs and businesses are focused for too near a future without basic thought of understanding basics. My dear city dwellers, unsold inventory and unmindful short term investors false hype have let concrete to consume our water. We need water or more buildings
Come to Hyderabad, a Multicultural Tech hub with lower traffic, crime & language problems. Our ex-CM K Chandrashekar Rao has built Kaleshwaram project (world's largest lift-irrigation project) to address water problems for next 50 years.
Mumbai has planned ahead for more than a 100 years and western ghats have almost unlimited water if reservoirs and dams continue to be built. This is why Mumbai Pune region is the richest in India.
