How To Solve The Weber 32/36 Heat Soak Issue

In this video I try to describe how a carb spacer helped my heat soak issue and increased horsepower on my Mazda b2200...The spacer is made of a Phenolic/Bakelite material.
The horsepower gain is likely attributed to the venturi effect or added intake turbulence and volume and possibly cooler fuel.
I got mine in a kit, on Amazon

Just want to thank you for taking the time and showing updates on your trucks. You’ve helped me quite a bit for my Mazda build. I myself have a 90 b2200 that was given to me by a friend of mine a few years back. It has been my dream mini truck since high school. Now that I have one, me and my daughter have been building it a little at a time. So thanks again for all the input you give.

Hey mitch a little off topic here but I'm having trouble with my starter and was wondering if by chance if there was a little black wire with an metal o-ring connector that hooks up to the starter also? A pic or verbiage would kindly be appreciated as I value your skills and knowledge GREATLY! I'm having a drag every time I go to crank up and losing battery power. I'm feeling it does but am afraid I'll short the electrical out. 91 ext 5sp b2200 le carbureted

I just picked up one for my b2200, do you need to add more gaskets with your spacer? And have you thought about using the weber 38/38?

Having a vapor lock issue on my MGB, used Phenolic spacers on my old Altima I had and remember the intake being cold to the touch after a long drive, so I decided to see if I could find a phenolic spacer for the Weber 32/36 and indeed it existed, I believe it will actually stop the vapor lock, I will soon see if it does.

An electric fuel pump with a spring loaded override switch in the cab will solve the hot soak problem on any carbureted vehicle. Run the fuel pump with the switch until you feel it come up against pressure, meaning the bowl is full again. I have one on both my 22R with Weber 38 and my 351 Windsor with Edelbrock intake and carb. Given you can't buy a decent quality mechanical fuel pump any more a rotary electric gives you this option. That is what I run on both of mine. Noisy and worth it, and so inexpensive you can afford to carry a spare with you.

The plate solved it and was way cheaper. Adding the plate was basically like putting back the heat plate that I took off with the original carb.

It's called a ram flow air filter I think I got it off of eBay

Are the ram air filters better to use o the Weber 32/36

You definitely get unrestricted air flow, but it doesn't really improved performance but it does look cool

Wanted to ask you if I need to have a electric joke my Weber carb did not come with one. Do I need it? I tried starting my truck but doesn't start?

Yes I run an electric choke, helps you on cold start. You need one.

MazdaMitch also want to say thank you for all your videos.. the visuals are super helpful.. I’m just now getting around to building me another Mazda, first one I had I was really young n just bought it on the fly, it was a really nice truck, but.. that’s all I saw. Motor was good but little did I know, it wasn’t that good. So on this new truck I have.. I’m doing it right

Did you have a issue with hard starts before adding this spacer? Mine sometimes when it’s cold is hard to start.
@MazdaMitch
@MazdaMitch 5 лет назад
Hard starts in winter is choke related. This was not my issue. My issue was after everything was hot, and the carb evaporated all the fuel out due to heat soak. This spacer limited the heat transfer from the aluminum intake to the carb. A summer problem.
@amsralliart
@amsralliart 5 лет назад
MazdaMitch okay awesome I’m down in FL and it’s hot all the time sometimes when I drive around and go into a store it takes 3-4 cranks. I have the 32/36 on my mighty max I also just hooked up a wideband loosely to tune it
@MazdaMitch
@MazdaMitch 5 лет назад
@@amsralliart Yes that was my same issue. This spacer addition seems to have solved it for me.

Link on Amazon is dead, unfortunately, to the spacer. Same problem, different vehicle. Mine is a 77 MG Midget and yes, the carb gets so hot you can barely touch it.
@MazdaMitch

@@MazdaMitch thanks! I wound up finding one, helps but not 100% cured. I'm switching my Midget from the DGEV to a pair of dual SUs mounted on a spitfire intake with a big old heat shield between them and everything else.
