Glad to find this video. Got the Sony replacement pads but had no instructions about how to put them on. But, boy, I had a tougher time getting the new ones on than you did. It just took some gentle patience. And my original pads sure didn't last 15 years!! It was only about 3 years before the plastic covering started peeling and leaving black flakes on my ears.
Flakes: my original pads started flaking, so I put some black socks over them to keep the flakes from getting everywhere. It looked like I had dog ears! After it stopped flaking into the socks, I removed the socks, and continued wearing them for another 10 years or more! They finally got uncomfortable enough that I replaced them
Thank you, just restored my 7506 to brand new glory. I remember my headphones wore off in like two years the first time, but to be fair, it was hot, I sweat a lot and I was doing 9-12 hours days at a time. That was amazingly 20 years ago. Thank you Sony for making a quality product.
Great vid, great cans - love those big comfy velour pads. My dog chewed up the those exposed leads when she was a pup. I was very upset but they still worked - and STILL work years later with no repair beyond a bit of silicone and discarded insulation to cover the exposed wiring and strengthen the leads. Talk about rugged!
Wow you take very good care of your headphones! My pads are all torn up after 2 years :P I'll be trying the pearstones, thanks a lot for your suggestion and demonstration.
I find that an easier way to replace headphone pads is to fit the pad around the entire earpiece and then pull the stretchy end down so that it fits into the groove. It will tend to "snap" into the groove.
Thanks for this. I've had my V6's for a little over a year and they've made me the happiest man in the world. Both pads started to rip a couple weeks ago and I had no idea if or how you would replace them. I must have sharp ears or something. Nice video.
Glad I found this (both the video and the reply). My left MDR ear-pad came off a year ago. I got so frustrated trying to reattach it that I would just place the ear-pad over my ear and clamp the headphone over it (if that makes sense - and bootleg I know. I basically always had a loose pad but it worked!). So between this video and the "card trick" I got it back in place. The foam is showing in both pads, so I probably need replacements but at least now I have everything in place. Thanks!
thanks for the info. i bought my MDR's last September before i went to Europe for 3 weeks, I wanted to see how they would hold up under normal everyday use. I am a mobile musician/dj so I use headphones constantly. I noticed about 3 weeks ago, the ear cups started to show major failure in separation of the inner foam / outer covering. Interesting that my Shure SRH 440's ,which I purchased at the same time, are still going strong with no issues. I love the Sony's, just need to attend to the upkeep from time to time. That's normal and it is what it is. They still sound fantastic!
I enjoy your vids. I have been a subscriber for a few months already (your Audioengine D1 review helped me make my decision, thanks again for that) and happened to come across this vid when searching to replace a pad that had come off. She was very appreciative.
I've got a pair of MDRV-600s. Haven't used em in a while so when I did I noticed all these black flakes. Black dandruff?! Close exam showed pad surface disintegrating. How do I get these off I thought. Then a search brought your video. Thank You Thank You. Welcome tutorial. I ordered replacements from Amazon. When I worked in radio the pads were pure bakelite. Ouch! Thanks again. You've got a new subscriber.
Bought Senal SMH-1000 that comes with a free Auray genuine sheepskin ear pads/pouch and have to say am quite impressed by the sound of the Senal ( MDR7506 look-a-like but with detachable cables which there are 2 standard in the box ) and also extra ear pads which I tried and switched with my Sony CD900ST's. The Aurays are the perfect replacement for V6, 7506, CD900ST, old version of ATH-M30, SMH-1000. Same thickness as Sony OEM but a definite step-up in comfort and durability.
Thank you, I was afraid of ripping the replacement pads for our V600, your pointing out that they are strong helped me to fix up with new pads! The old pads were flaking off black material that resembles flake fish food //
SO I fixed my headphones a while ago and I had the problem of putting the ear pads back on it was a bit harder to do when your headset is rounded. I found a trick to make it easier to put back on and it looks like it never was removed. All you need is a card any type of hard plastic card like credit card or those phone card. simply do the same process as in this video but instead of using your fingers to insert it through the slots use the card to push it back in.
I would! Especially if you are using it witha low power output device. That being Android handsets, Ipods, Iphones, Even tablets. Depending on the model you even might get some physical EQ options.
@@Luisitox5 They do. They increase bass and make it boom and also make the sound less bright. This is good for casual listening but bad for mixing. I had to go back to the flaky originals.
When I replaced my V6's ear pads I also had to remove the sticky circle of cloth around the driver because it was half un-glued, and shaking a lot, making an unbearable sound while bass reproduction. Sadly the new ear pads didn't come with the sticky cloth thing... but I don't thing is a big deal sound-wise.
How bad I wanted for my 7506 to be MADE IN JAPAN... by the way, the velour just look so awesome on it... maybe late spring I'm going to get them. Very nice video, man.
I have one pair with original Sony ear pads, and one pair with aftermarket memory foam pads from Brainwavz. The larger/thicker memory foam pads do alter the sound just a little but a notch or two up on the volume fixes that.
It's tricky for sure. If you've ever changed a bicycle tire using a "spoon" it's something like that. I fashioned one from a piece of smooth plastic. BE VERY CAREFUL not to stretch them out too far.
Great Video! Thanks! BTW I have the MDR-V600 and Sony discontinued selling the replacement pads. Also the Pearstone Replacement Earpads are currently unavailable. Is there any other OEM brand that you can recommend?
Thanks for the video man! I got V6s cause I heard you could replace the pads fairly easily if they ever one day ripped (which mine are doing). Time to buy some replacement pads.
Thanks for this vid, I've had my 7506's for I think almost 5 years now and the ear pads are so degraded that they make my ears itch and they flake all over the place. Seriously need to do a replacement. I'm thinking that I need to replace the right driver too as it's somewhat quieter and will crackle sometimes.
I got the MDR-V600 from 2001 and they are still the best headphones I ever purchased; going to get some new pads though; Sony > All (when it comes to over the head earphones)
i bought the auray audio pads for my 7506's and so far so good... the pads are a nice velvet and they fit good, seem better than the pearstone but not sure
+GEMain I Know it's not that easy , you have to apply a little pressure to the back opening of the pad , it fits on the groves of the headphones , just dont apply too much pressure as you may tear the back of the ear pads , try fitting from one point and then apply pressure evenly as you go round . Hope that helps
It seems that the Velour type has a smaller inside "diameter" than the original. The original itself is uncomfortable for an over ear cans due to its smaller size than most over ear headphone pads. So, are you still using the Velour type? Thanks!
Hey, can you tell me why the 7506s are more expensive than the v6s? I was trying to work out the difference, and the only one i could find is that the v6s have more frequency response, should that not make them the more expensive ones? i also read the warranty on the v6s is shorter so maybe that could be it...
Originals 7506 became pieces after time, imitation i got from ebay became the same (both were this soft leather). Senheisers HD280 pads are intact years now, Sony V700 the same (is hard leather). Anyone has to suggest a good solid ones for 7506?
I have Sony MDR-CD999 and they have a plastic snap ring inside original pads. Some snaps broke after I removed pads. Do I need them at all? Original Sony pads replacement nowhere to be found. I got Brainwavz for the one you have. Any suggestions?
here i need some help i hv a sony dynamic stereo headphone DR-S100 (BOODO KHAN) is quite old model can i still find a ear pad for it because is already crack and i need to fix it.thanks :)
Can you do that with the Wireless Stereo Headset *You know the one who appears to not have any other name and are much fatter, also official* because my cushions pads suddenly became really uncomfortable and I'm thinking I need a replacement.
I feel so dumb now. I threw away my 7506 after both pads got worn out. If only I saw this video. Good news is I can get another 7506 for free from work
great video, thank you, I'm about to replace mine this week. just one thing though, can you please not ramble on so much. your video was really good, you just ramble on and take to look to get to the point, no disrespect. God bless.
