I really don’t think there’s a formula to make art “successful” it is just whatever the people up top say is valuable. From what I know there are artists who directly plan on that and make garbage to make fun of the institutions and the institution just decides that it is valuable nonetheless. It’s weird.

It's so sad. I don't know why. I can't tell if he's depressed. But there's such a huge difference between Ryan now and then. Am I just looking too much into it?

Lol the rant about art standards is so relatable. I went down a deep rabbit hole trying to find some sort of objective standard to use myself. Found out that this is actually a pretty highly debated topic in art philosophy, and there's no simple answer. Generally, philosophers would say that art is intersubjective, so its not something concretely measurable like units in science, but also not completely personal like liking a certain colour. While the final meaning and appeal of a work depends on each person eg. some people like pop style music, others death metal, the elements that make up the work can still discussed and compared eg. techniques used, so the quality of a work isn't completely a matter of personal taste. For modern art galleries, I've read that those artists create works on a sort of meta level, and the standards they use for their art are very specific to that world. So without that specific art world knowledge, its hard to even understand what they're trying to do. Still, I'm not sure whether that justifies the crazy prices they sell for.

That’s why there are sooo many good pieces of art work, but the only ones that make peas are those artists with connections. Say their art professor knows a museum curator who knows an auctioneer that can get them into a ring of billionaires who are looking to inflate their networth. The piece is actually only worth $50k, but one guy buys it for $50k then sells it to his buddy for “$125k”. Now the first guy is $75k richer. Badabing badaboom, MONEY!💰💵💎🤑

Art has been the physical bitcoins for centuries. and i guess also rich people would trade things to make them get value. And i guess the other thing, is the rule of 3, endpoints, following structure of depths and each layer tries to convey something, and if it can make people people get the right feelings, it is priceless.

Its different for everyone but the market can’t know the max price everyone will pay, so the market sets it at the highest price people are paying. Especially with one off products like a work of art. Demand is potentially high while quantity is low, driving prices up.
