@@TheBestOfMaya07 : Whenever you speak to Capeverdeans and they say words you don't understand just ask them to use another word. In Cabo-Verde there's much disagreement regarding spelling but it is truly more of a political or ideological nature, '. Also, each of the nine populated islands has its own accent and version and that makes it even more impossible for there to be a unified written capeverdean Creole. And, that's another reason why Portuguese must continue to be the official language. Of course we all understand each other. Were I to spell those words you claim to not understand,, you'd have less problem understanding them. instead of "nflado" I'd write " mim flado' (from the Portuguese word 'falado") I could even skip 'mim ' and just say 'flado' or "frado". which means ' it is said'. 'conxi" comes from the Portuguese verb "conhecer", to know" which conjugated in that context would be ' conhece'. So, I would not have written it the way Rastamam wrote it. I"d write 'conche', in order to be true to its real linguistic root or origin. "monti' means' monte' in Portuguese which literally means ' mountain' or' elevation'. So, in this context it means 'elevated' or' lots of'; To give the impression of a lot of something, in this case , people, or 'alguem' Also, contrary to what many people say, 99.99% of the capeverdeans words come from Portuguese. So, "Criolo", as it is called in Cabo_Verde, is a 'africanized' Latin dialect .

@gibau1000
@gibau1000 2 месяца назад
@@SheediaJansen translation, "I also tell them to speak slower or to use another word" . "Frase" is ''fra"= to tell , from portuguese ''falar' . In some islands 'fla' plus 'ese' =they, from portuguese 'eles'. 99.99% of capeverdeans words derive from or are of portuguese origin. And, at that, from archaic portuguese, as it was spoken in the or up to the XV and XVI centuries. The portuguese arrived in Cabo-Verde aka Cape-Verde, in 1460 AD.
@gibau1000
@gibau1000 2 месяца назад
And of course 'frase' also means 'phrase'. 😂 Depending on the context. That ambiguity can or could actually be mitigated if we were to use an apostrophe between 'fra' (or 'fla') and 'ese' or 'aese', when meaning 'to tell them'; So that it would be written as 'fr'ase' or 'fl'ase". (In the latter case perhaps unnecessary) I'm of the firm belief that the written capeverdean language should always indicate when words are compiled into a single word. To avoid confusion or trivialities, which is actuality rare. Also the spelling of capeverdean words should always reflect its roots,which is overwhelmingly in the portuguese language. That also means that I personally oppose, using the letter "K" in the written capeverdean language; because, such letter doesn't exist in Portuguese. Of course we learn and should learn about it because there are exceptions and it is useful when writing foreign names, etc. Anyhow, there have been some unsuccessful attempts, by mostly demagogues and incompetent and ignorant linguists, to formalize or to standardize the written caverdean language . Such attempts have also been futile because for one each island has its own accent. And, also because the process is totally politicized. People like myself that actually know a thing or two about this subject have long been silenced. In some respects, I actually don't mind the lack of any conventional standard regarding our written language. For one, it allows more freedom. 😂 That said, one must take into consideration that any ambiguity in the meaning or interpretation of a written letter is the author's fault . 😂 Ps. Some of my recommendations or concerns also can be applied to the written form of Papiamentu.
@gibau1000
@gibau1000 2 месяца назад
@@SheediaJansen pa ese= for them. That could also be contracted and spelled 'pese'. The s sounds like z. Which is consistent with portuguese phonetics; as the letter S between two vowels always sounds like a Z.
@gibau1000
@gibau1000 2 месяца назад
In most or at least many instances 'am' or 'an' which means 'me' or ' I' can be replaced by 'mi' or 'mim' . 'am' sounds like 'ã '. it's a nasal sound' Like in the word 'coraçam' , which probably could or should be spelled 'coraçã'. (Threre are no rules in criolo. We are unruly. Lol) In some islands you may hear ' 'coraçon'. you say Curaçao. In Brazil the popular name João is beginning to sound like Joao. 😂
