Excellent lecture! Recognizing the experiences of other animals is so important to both understanding ourselves and to making a society where humans don't slaughter the homies.

Very poor quality lecture. Tried it on my mother in law and she just looked at me and didn't say anything.

"When we find an animal can communicate we tend to treat them better"... unless they are human, in which case we kill them.

Star Trek's Universal Translator coming soon. I worked on Lilly's Project JANUS, the other issue to overcome is the different frequency humans use vs what cetaceans use. Humans can naturally only hear part of the cetaceans vocal range.

We can probably even see if they are arguing. If there is first a listen and response. Then emotional change and pitch and starts overlap convo. 😅

I was thinking that this was going to be an hour and a half long video and he was going to actually teach us how to speak whale. So when I saw how long it actually was and he didn't teach us how to speak whale, I became disappointed. And I still am!😢😂

A thesis could be that a species uses the language it needs. We needed to explain tool making, dolphins how to catch fish and navigate. A fitting vocabulary would be 'danger', 'safe', 'up', 'down', 'north', 'east', 'south', 'west', 'light', 'dark'. Combining with a name makes quick re-action possible. And dolphins are all about quick hunting. What name they would use for whales and humans I would really would like to know. 'Safe Uppies, Who come from Above', maybe :p
@HO-bndk
@HO-bndk Год назад
Some dolphin populations use tools too, and what makes you think dolphins would classify humans as "safe"!?

I dive with spinner dolphins every other day and fished between 100s of humpback for many years. They all are a perimeter Controlling hive mind sharing 3d sonar imagery among the pod. Also witnessed various ceremonies among spinners and humpbacks love Mozart more than Beethoven.
