Awesome video Ollie , any chance of doing a video on how to find spots where to try diving from a yak , ie what do you look for where to try a dive for a spear fish , water depth , currents etc , Do,s and don,ts , i think that would go hand in hand with this video if anyone is going to venture into spear fishing with a yak , as always mate great video keep em coming . 👍

Awesome Vid and great info Ollie. I opted for the next model up (Profish Reload) as I fish mostly from mine. However, I do plan to enjoy some spearfishing from my kayak. They truely are a great "off the shelf"platform, set up to handle anything you throw at them. Cheers

Hi Ollie, great, informative vid on your kayak. The only thing I would mention is kayak material. Yours is obviously ABS, but if folks don't know they may opt for fiberglass, which really cannot be dragged across rocks without significant damage

The Viking Profish 440 is a really good fishing platform, incredibly stable and very tough. It is a little slow for longer paddles (i 30km+) but excellent for its primary purpose. I have gone from sit on tops to sit in sea kayaks for longer trips carrying gear, but these are not ideal for fishing at all. Try landing a big fish into the cockpit of a sea kayak, it is a little dangerous to say the least.

Really enjoy your videos Ollie, keep up the great content. Am keen to try spearfishing off my Viking 400 and the key question I have is I assume you dont then take a float and you use the kayak as your float (if you are towing it)? How do you approach it if anchored? Do you still attach your floatline to the nose of the boat?

Some of my most memorable and enjoyable spearfishing has been done off an old cheap, basic "Dakin" kayak team 😉 I had "not food" painted on the bottom of it 😉 (just in case sharks can read! 😆), I completely sunk it at 9pm, 400m off the Kaikoura coast one night and had to swim-drag it back to shore, laughing all the way 🙂(Still had my catch). I've had to purposely role in it in the surf one day.... after being suddenly caught short and not being able to get me wet-suit fully off and into the water in time...... (damn Thai green curry) 😆 lol 😆 I thought I'd mis-counted me Paua one day... but it turns out I just lost one in the haul of it.... found it 2 weeks later 😆 lol 😆 Despite all that, I highly recommend getting one, IF you can afford it team 😉

@Derrick I wouldnt know. I have never seen a study on entering and exiting the water from a kayak/canoe/PB, most fit divers vs. those not fit. Perhaps you can forward/post that document. And you wrongly equate being fit and being agile as the same. Water entry and exit are different from a flat deck yak, vs a yak with a tower, vs a yak with pedals. Not to mention pad eyes, rail systems or other mounted gadgetry that will shred a wetsuit on contact. It never fails to amaze me the idiots, i mean experts, that reply to posts and the b.s. they say....go figure.
