ProTip: Paint your black areas in Abaddon Black, and then use a smaller dry brush to stipple Corvus black on top of those same areas, followed up with a stippled mix of 50/50 Corvus Black/Mechanicus Standard Grey. Edge highlight with Mechanicus Standard Grey.
I tried this on a Devilfish using a white scheme and honestly, it just brought it up to a more uniform colour which for white is incredibly hard to do across a large area without a dry brush. I'm (almost) tempted to redo my previous tanks.
It worked great! After base coat and one lighter tone on a Land Raider, I was starting to questioning this video. But when the edge highlights were brushed on I was stoked with the result!

I normally shy away from brushes like the one in the beginning because I don’t know how to dry/clean them, but that effect looks so much better than it looks on my bigger models, I might try it out
For an even more authentic armour colour and finish try shading the tank armour with 1 part Terridon Turq and 5 parts contrast medium. Then dry brush back to colour with Horus green. Looks even better. 👍🏻 then either lazy dry brush or edge highlight with sibarad green and it seriously looks like the box art (almost)
@@MediocreHobbies which paints would you recommend I stick to? I’m thinking caliban green as a base and moot green highlight but I’m not sure which paints and combos to work with for the ‘in between stages’
That effect is incredible. Very visually interesting and gives the illusion that the paint has been on there for a long time, like it's starting to wear off. Artis Opus aren't the only that make drybrushes like that BTW. Army Painter make a very similar set that will probably also do the trick. I got give this a go if I ever find myself painting a tank.
Looking forward to the battle damage/chipping stage. Also do you think the Artis Opus stuff are really worth it? Or could you get the same effect from cheaper make up brushes?
Wow! That looks awesome! I usually rely on dry brushing for large models but I’ve never seen it applied with just stippling! I’ll have to try that on my rhino and spartan
My local GW clerk recommended this video to me after I asked him how to paint my Bad Moons Battlewagon. On a Mephiston Red primer I applied two rounds of Averland Sunset stippling, and holy cow is this technique awesome. 😮
Thanks for the videos, this technique looks promising to say the least, and the results speak for themselves. When it comes to priming and base-coating, I definitely use an airbrush. Also, speed paints work great right out of the bottle & thru the airbrush. It's good to have options.
Been putting my vehicles on the back burner as I've been a little nervous to ruin them if I Mess up. This video has alleviated alot of that hesitancy, so just have to decide on a paint scheme for my Tauroxs. Great video!
That's great to hear, and exactly what i wanted to happen with the video! Vehicles are a lot more of an investment and a bigger focal point of an army so I completely understand! I just tried this for the first time, also on a SoH Rhino. I didn't do it exactly the same and it doesn't look quite as good but I have to say I'm really surprised with how good it looks considering I only spent maybe an hour total on my Rhino so far! Thanks for doing this video!

I like it and will be doing my headlights this way. I plan on airbrushing the base color on mine but I do like the dry brush stipling idea for the highlight color and edges.
I've painted my tanks and vehicles like this (even some marines) in this method. Got an airbrush now so of course I'll use it over anything else for 80% of the paintjob for vehicles
Airbrushing can save a lot of time, I don't use one on my channel because a lot of people don't have access to one and I don't want them put off learning to paint! It's a whole other skill though!

If your following my guide for the infantry I would do the drybrush method I did here with dark gold into being gold and then contrast red over the top. And thank you so much for then kind words. That really means a lot.

Would you be able to do a comparison video by any chance? So this style vs doing this but only using grey/white, and then contrast (airbrush or otherwise) over the top, as I'm keen to see how that looks in comparison, as to me, it should almost be the same right?
No it wouldn’t really be the same. And if I’m being 100% honest I probably won’t get around to trying it anytime soon. My schedule is jammed. But if you give it a try I’d love to see.
Looks good. I've never tried this technique but I might give it a go on my own rhino. Worst case scenario is I don't like it and have to start over. I'm good with that.

I’m going to try the stippling technique for my Black Templars vehicles and dreadnaught. I think I’ll base with a pure black and use something like Corvus Black or Vallejo German Grey to build the highlights. Unless anyone has a better suggestion! Thanks and keep up the great work!
That sounds like a great idea. Maybe start with black and instead of a solid jump mix a bit if the next colour in little by little till your happy with the result.
Another awesome job....what colours would you use for a Night lords rhino I was thinking kantor blue the something like macragge blue mixed in equal parts for the lighter coats near the top then neat macragge blue for the last highlights.....sorry if I've spelt the names of the paint wrong ha ha
I wouldn’t spell them rite either. And that for sure sounds like a good set of paints. Just be carful not to go to bright or it will look more like ultra marines.

This is such a cool technique on flat surfaces. Now i really want to try it with a small drybrush on flat armor miniatures like Space Marines or Tau. It could also be a nice break from all the contrast painting :)
Ive stippled with two different blue tones and a 1:1 mic of abbadon black and maccrage and it was awesome. Like warriors were fighting on a dusty desert planet or stone desert environment.

Would stippling the talassar over gold work on the tank or would you recommend airbrushing it on? Awesome job! I like the differences between the two videos. Is there a chance of you making a video of how to apply decals to vehicles? Or would the decal video you made apply to vehicles as well? I know I've seen trim detail for tanks on some transfer sheets so I was curious

Absolutely love this! I was going to use an airbrush but now I am thinking this way could be really cool. What colors would you use for the Night Lords vehicles? I would greatly value your suggestions and opinions. Do you think it is crucial to use the Artis Opus Dry Brushes or can I use another kind that is really good and made in Germany, the Monument Paints company ones?
Really happy to hear how much you liked it. And yes any brush designed like these will do so the monument once or the army painter once will work. As for Colours for the night lords. It would be black and then probably straight to nightmares blue. And then a touch and I mean a touch of a white mixed in and a final pass.
Depends on what scheme your going for. If it’s the metallics I sured in the infantry video I’d be tempted to start from dark silver and work through up to a bright silver and then contrast over the top. Test it first to see if it works.
As a fellow iron warriors, stipple (doesn’t even have to be stippling, just aggressively base coat the model in a gunmetal), wash with what ever you feel like (I do null oil), touch up any details, add some stripes, and than any additional weathering is up to you.
@@MediocreHobbies does GW have a brighter set of metals? I know they leadbelcher and iron hands but is one brighter than the other and are there ones brighter than those 2? And I'll have to try it when I get my hands on a rhino, but I'd be more than happy to show you the results

Honestly that’s a tough one because dark angels are so so dark when finished. So go with the recommended he three paints for there armour. Shoud work well.
when stippling do you add water to thin the paint or use it straight from the pot? I just cant do this technique at all. i tried it out yesterday and just got into a right mess with it. it looks easy on the vid but it deffo isn't.
It’s there in the video, I take it from the pot and put it on a dry palette, take most of the paint off and then apply to the tank. No water is added as you can see in the video. It really is this easy, you just have to watch the directions properly, artis opus has great videos on the same technique as well!
well i tried again. 3rd attempt. got quite a nice camoglage effect which would be nice if thats what i was going for. maybe its the brushes im using i dunno, but i'm almost ready to throw the towel in and go back to drybrushing. drybrushing doesnt achieve the above effect, but its better than what im getting atm.
@@cyborgbadger1015 wait what brushes are you using? I tried some of the knock off and makeup brushes but it’s only the real artis opus brushes that work for me.
@@MediocreHobbies yeah that could well be the problem. i'm using makeup brushes. my painting has taken a major dowenhill slide since i started using them
I have some videos showing how I did my Sons of Horus infantry, you would probably need a smaller brush but this could be applied to smaller models, however I think the speed painting techniques I have for space marines would work better!
