Hi Kirsty, I bought your set of 20 pan pastels and the Claire Fontaine pastel mat and it's the best thing I did. It is so much quicker to apply the colours and values with pan pastels. I have completed at least one drawing every 4-6 days and am loving it. I noticed with the pan pastels there is one screw-on lid, what is this used for? I found the colours I use most such as the yellow ochre and titanium white end up having more loose particles so I have used it for them. Is that why you have this lid?
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 2 года назад
Thank you, it's an amazing combination! It makes creating art a lot more fun 😊 The lid is because all of the pans can screw together in a stack (to save space) So you can put the lid on the top pan! The smaller sets (sets of 5, 7 and 10) sometimes don't come with a palette tray, so storing them in stacks with the lid on top is the easiest option 😊

yes i bouhgt the set as well thinking that the tutorials would use that set of colours ....wrong!! the set colours are not used in kirstys tutorials which made them a waste of money because now instead of buying the normal sets ie shades...basic colours , tints & extra darks ive now got this situation where ive either got to buy individual colours or go without, i have tried mixing them but its not easy since they stick to the sponge & stick to the paper so they dont mix easily at all if they did then they wouldnt need to make these shade & extra dark sets because you could just mix them yourself
@jenniferatterton1587
@jenniferatterton1587 Год назад
@@casscamden740 I haven't had to use any "extras" her 20 set covers all the colours, tints and shades I need for my animal portraits. The mixing works, just have to persist and use the normal paper to mix them on works well. What sort of problems are you having?

Nice video. Any suggestions of alternative pan pastels if your subscribers can’t afford to buy your set?

Hi Nora, Unfortunately, there isn't any other product like Pan Pastels You can buy the basic set of 5 colours (red, yellow, blue, black and white) and mix any colour you need, just like paint! That is something you can't do easily with soft pastel sticks or pastel pencils (this is why people usually have hundreds of pastel sticks/pencils - which is way more expensive than buying 5 Pan Pastels) They're actually not that expensive when you compare how much pastel is in each pan Pan Pastels contain 40% more pastel than an average stick and have 4-5 times more coverage. They last a very long time in comparison to sticks I've had my full set of pan pastels for about 5 years and haven't run out of any colour yet, and I do a lot of artwork, and if you take care of the Sofft tools, they last a long time as well 😊 There are also many other benefits such as not having to touch the pastel (so it's less mess on your hands/artwork/desk etc), less excess dust in the air, as well as being able to control how much pastel you are applying to your surface which means you don't fill up the tooth of the paper too quickly - allowing for the addition of a few layers of pastel pencils/coloured pencils etc if you wish! You can also use the smaller Sofft tools or brushes to apply into smaller areas, which can be hard to to with a soft pastel stick I honestly recommend Pan Pastels over any other type of pastel because they are actually more cost effective (along with all the other benefits mentioned above) 😊

I’ve used soft pastels as with wet watercolour brushes to add background washes to my charcoal, graphite and/or coloured pencils. I haven’t used powdered soft pastels…hmm
@Bonnie10au
@Bonnie10au 2 года назад
How are you able to finish this in 1.5h, lol. It takes me that time to finish the background alone. I am in Australia too. Where do you get the Lux paper from? I only tried it once but with the powder blender and didn't like it at all. Now I am thinking to give it another try, but it is very expensive when I order it from Jackson's.

Haha I honestly do a lot of drawings, so I tend to get faster 😊 Soft Pastels have just started stocking it in Australia! www.softpastels.com.au/pastel_paper/lux_archival/lux_archival.php Honestly, it's pretty expensive anywhere you buy it from - but it's worth it in my opinion!

i left the patreon because the line drawings were terrible, they were really messy & no way of knowing what to trace & what to leave out since just like every other artist out there noone can see the sketch outlone again making following a tutorial guess work & impossible
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt Год назад
Hi there, sorry you feel that way! I use digital line art because everyone is different and requires a different amount of line work to start with. Some people prefer just the overall shape because the details make them anxious and they get confused as to what section they are working on, whereas some people want every little detail on the line art so they don't have to worry about freehanding everything inside the overall shape The digital line art emphasises where the harshest lines/values are so you can choose for yourself how much you want to trace over Some people find it easier to just print the colour (or black and white) reference photo and trace over that because they find the lines confusing and would rather see the different colours in each area to trace over It's totally up to you So basically, I don't provide my own hand-drawn version of line art because that will stop a lot of people being able to use them and with the digital version, they can pick and choose which lines to trace 😊
