Let’s answer Q.2 first.
The ONE thing common to ALL subjects is...
WORDS or TERMINOLOGY!
If you understand a difficult word - you understand a sentence.
If you understand the sentences - you understand the pages.
If you understand the pages - you understand the chapters.
If you understand the chapters - you understand the subject.
A student’s ability in any subject rests on her knowledge of its words. If the words of a subject seem difficult, the subject will seem difficult.
Q. So what’s the most important thing to study?
A. Words
Q. And the study of words is called…?
A. Vocabulary
Ironically, the one subject that’s not taught in schools.
It is alarming to see that without teaching vocabulary, schools:
1. judge students on aptitude
2. advise students on how-to-study
3. make student comparisons
This is not fair. We must understand that the difference between a good student and a bad one is his comfort with Vocabulary. Students with poor vocabulary MEMORISE their way through education. No. Memory is NOT a process in education. It is a result of education. When you truly learn something, you can:
1. Remember it
2. Recall it
3. Apply it
