I’m a 73 year old farm kid and retired CPA. I’ve helped many small business owners. Thank you for this video. Thank you for your love of farming. Thank you for taking on something very few will do. Hearing the cost of your farm operation will frighten most people to death. Your courage is what makes America great. I’m sure some people watch your videos thinking how easy she has it. “She’s just a farmer”. Ask them if they want to borrow $1,000,000, pray for good weather, pray to stay healthy, work 4,000+ hours a year in the hope of having enough profit to do it all over again next year. Don’t ever apologize for letting the stress out. If someone criticizes you for it simple tell them to go to hell. God Bless!

Most people have No idea what pressure comes with running a successful small business. Most get nervous when they take out a 35K loan for a car or truck. Try risking it all every year like you guys and many other farmers do. It isn't for the faint of heart. Both you and Grant make me proud of our younger generation who often get a bad rap. There are good and bad in every generation and you two are some of the best. Keep it up and never ever apologize for letting your emotions come out. I will never forget the day that my wife and I went into the poultry business. Nothing as big as what you and Grant are doing but it was stressful for us. We had four broiler houses and borrowed over $300,000.00 to build them on land that we already owned. People do not understand that farming is 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. We have been in our poultry houses when thunderstorms hit and lightning was running up and down the cables in the houses. Wish you and Grant all of the good luck in the world. I'm a 66 year old Country Boy, my Father managed a large sheep and cattle grazing property for a Pastoral Company, and my Maternal Grandparents were into cropping, with some sheep and cattle. I've been following your channel for some years now. It's very interesting to see how farming operations are carried on elsewhere. It was phenomenally brave of you to put yourself out there and give us a breakdown of your numbers. The raw emotion engendered just made it all the more forceful. Don't ever apologise for letting the stress out, we have your back! I salute You and Grant and pray for your continued survival. I know whereof you speak, and I concur with every other positive comment on here. One of my cousins married a Farmer, and to sow 5000 acres of Barley, cost them $100,000 for diesel!! When I was a lad, 45% of the Australian population was rural based. Now it is only 12%, and still shrinking. That Video, "A Farmers Last Ride" was especially poignant and tasteful. Laura - I've just discovered your channel, and I've watched over half of your videos. Grew up farming, then moved away and became a blue collar worker. 57yrs old and have done a lot of things. You and Grant are incredible workers, and personalities. Love that you tear right into mechanical projects and fix things on your own. My daughter is the same way, as is my son. I'm proud of them as they are both white collar workers - but aren't afraid to get dirty and build/fix things. You two are an inspiration, and make me feel better about this generation. Hi Laura! As a 71 year old man who spent the first half of his life farming, I sincerely thank you for the most accurate portrayal of farming life I have ever seen! And for all the nonfarmier types out there, I can confirm the stress is sometimes so intense, it can be debilitating! It's just a good thing you get a little change of pace during the winter months to recharge and go again! The best advice I can give you is the same advice I received over 50 years ago. Just saw this epi in Oct 23. In the first few moments of it you showed the true raw emotion of a farmer. I''m first gen away from the farm so I haven't felt it personally but my family must have shared the feeling of all the hard work on the gamble of being a farmer. I too was raised on a farm along time ago . We farmed with horses and worked from sun up to sun down . We never had much but we had a love of family and the land and this is something that can’t always be explained to some but this video brought back so many good memories and with it some tears of things passed . Its so good to see a young couple that is smart and hard working, it's something you don't see a lot today in young people. I know what the stress is I have felt the same way, at times, over the last 73 years and I am still farming. Farming gets in you blood and it's something you can't shake off no matter how hard you try. Farming is a profession that you can work hard and do the best you can and have little or nothing left, after you pay your loans, at the end of the year. Farmers are optimistic people and they will go for another year. We think next year will be better, maybe the weather will be better, maybe the corn and soybean prices will be up and sometimes it is better. The key to it all is make a good year stretch across a bad one the next year and keep your stress level even. There was a older man told me when I was young that "If you want more, work more" but in today's world you have to think more as well as work more. My hat's off to you two, just don't work so much that you burn yourself out and if you are unsure seek counsel of some one with a lot of experience.

WOW! What can I say, Except "THANK YOU"!!!! My ancestors farmed in southern Illinois, including my father until WWII. I know nothing about farming, except for the long hours and hard work it requires. And that doesn't even include the stress and financial risks involved. I have learned a lot watching your videos and truly appreciate what farmers are doing. I hope for much success and a very rewarding life.

My grandfather told me how stressful it was to buy a 200 acre farm in the early 20th century. He did it however, and remains one of my most influential mentors.

Laura congratulations on your RU-vid channel. I’m an ex farmer based in the UK which is a totally different physical environment to North America. But there are similarities. The margins were always tight and still are today as friends tell me. I farmed full time in the 70’s when we had rampant inflation. Prices of fertiliser and other inputs just took off. Diversity saved the day for me, despite the stress of doing so. As you mentioned in your video today farmers today are doing other things and that’s what I did in the 70’s. Stress is an attitude of mind and clear thought and pragmatism I found to be the best way of dealing with stress. When I was in my teenage years an old timer told me if you want to farm always have something to sell and if you have nothing to sell have a service you can provide. You have ticked both boxes although you may not realise it yet. You have your RU-vid channel which is excellent (a service) and your cattle which you could always sell if you need to. View livestock as dollars on legs and you won’t go far wrong. In my case it was pound notes. The timing of any sale may not be ideal but when you need it cash always has a value. You have Grant who is obviously interested in farming and you should share any stress with him as he should with you. Lots of luck and my very best wishes to you both tomorrow is always another day and bad days will just disappear from memory. 😅😅😅

My father was a dairy farmer and it was a great way to get a paycheck every week. That’s why he picked be a dairy farmer so he could get married and have a family. All year I have been telling my friends, employees and such, about you and how hard you work, filming this channel and on the farm when most people are too lazy to even put in an honest 40 hour week. This video just sums all that up, at least in your emotional reaction. Any business making over a million dollars a year is stressful, especially at the end of the year when you realize you spent it all. Keep up the great channel... obviously, we are all enjoying it.

I have congratulate you guys on the home and property purchase. Nice nice place. Second I get it. Your conveying cost and stress. Most people have know idea what it takes to farm and produce food or feeds. Or the cost to ranching these days. They have know idea of sleep lost and days that turn into sometimes two straight. Sack lunches and lots of water and or coffee. Not like the fast food chain is at the end of the turn row here. Or a bath house when you get sprayed with oils or diesel. Change some clothes keep moving. I get it. Breaking even is hard to do at times and people never think of what farmers ranchers and truck drivers do. The risk, the loss of time and reality in something’s slips by. You guys do a great job and I’m just happy you share it on RU-vid

This is a big problem with farming a lot of people don't understand. It's a vitally important industry that requires long hours, hard work, and operates with razor thin margins, yet the costs involved are astronomical and there are people out there actively attacking this industry. Your emotions are perfectly understandable, Laura, and your channel goes a long way to lift the veil on the work and dedication that goes into what you do. God bless.

Laura: I have been watching you and Grant farm now for a couple of years and I cannot express how much I admire you two for doing this. My late wife had 25 acres given to her which her cousin farms for us and I know first hand the costs. In addition, my Mother left our family trust about 250 acres that is part of a 460 acre track that my cousin owns. The gentlemen that farm it are really good and we continue to show a profit. However, I have seen several of my late wife's relatives have to sell their farms because they could not sustain it. Farming is a big gamble controlled by weather and the Good Lord, and it is up to the farmers to make it work despite the odds. I cannot imagine the stress and worry that you and Grant face each day. Thank you for sharing! Watched my Dad go through those same feelings for years growing up on a farm in Western Kansas. He was a third generation farmer who absolutely loved it. He stopped farming not long after I left to go to school and pursue a different career because I knew it would not support both of us. He lived five more years passing at the age of 61. He really missed farming and it took a great deal out of him. I watch your videos to remember the farm life so thank you for sharing. It is difficult and stressful but I have yet to find any job as rewarding. Never give up and keep on enjoying farm life!

I've read through comments here, I'm overwhelming with the figures that goes into your farm in just a year, plus lots of hardwork and sleepless night. I can bet you, if you invest that kind of figures on farming in Africa, you'll not put to stress because, there's a cheap labour, you'll have outright land of about 1644 hectares with the amount you spent on land rent and your crops is guaranteed an easy market without involvements or needing to pay marketers. Africa needs you. People in your enviroment will be worshiping you for giving them life and livelihood.👍

Laura I just watched your video spelling out all your expenses. As a farmer myself and basically on the other end of my career path from you I'm 61, I understand where you're coming from. One thing you and Grant have going for you is your youth and the fact that I think both of you are smart in that you're watching your expenses watching your input and your outgo and placing your dollars where they need to be. You're smart to buy ground you can buy new equipment all the time or at least what you need but when it comes to dirt God's not making any more of that. I wish you the best admire the two of you for what you're doing if we didn't have people from your generation following mine we'd be in a world of hurt.
