Hello Kristen, I just to thank you for your really helpful videos. I was struggling to find videos on getting to grips with the E-Spinner - and then I found your site! I am still making rubbish kinked up wool but at least I've now made a start and I'm sure the quality will improve with practice. I only have 4 sheep here in North Wales but really want to handle the processing myself and your clear instructions have given me the confidence to tackle this instead of sending off to a mill where they charge a fortune for small runs like mine. I also have 5 alpacas so that's the next challenge for the E-Spinner ! It was also helpful to hear how you have broken the process down seasonally across the year so it isn't overwhelming. That's a great tip.

Thank you for the kind words. You will certainly improve with practice. I am just a sheep owner that taught myself the wool gig. I thought there must be other sheep owners that would like to try using the wool too. My goodness, the mills are so expensive to process, so it was a must. I am glad this helped another shepherd! It really is quite satisfying to use your own sheep's wool. I don't have alpacas (they are too tall for my orchard), but I would like to try a fleece someday.

Thanks for watching! I will be making an entire series on the wool process (from shearing to finished product, and will definitely include using a niddy noddy).

I haven't seen anyone doing 100% predrafting before. Looks like a good technique for early on beginners, or for making a bulky novelty yarn.

It is very beginner friendly. I just spun a DK size this way, so it works for small also. 👌

If you could put on demonstrations of this at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, I think it would be a popular exhibit. Having a few sheep around would draw attention. Plus you could sell your wares. 😊 They already have the Rat Catcher, and Snot and Puke. Kristin the Shepherd would fit in nicely. 😆 And these RU-vid videos are teaching you to (ahem) spin a good yarn.

You are a wonderful teacher. I have subscribed and am making notes on all of your processing instructions. How many sheap do you have sheared? I ask because I am trying to figure out the best way to sort of production line the cleaning process. Thank you so much!!!!

Thank you, I appreciate the kind comment. I usually have around 30 sheep, plus or minus. I'm the only person processing the fleeces. I do it as a seasonal process: Shear in the spring, skirt and wash in the summer, card in the winter, spin/knit/weave/quilt in the winter. Winters are long here! I hope you give it a try. I had sheep for a while before I got into the wool stuff. It's fun and satisfying.

Thank you so much for your reply. At my family's farm in Ireland the sheep are sheared and the wool sent staight to the mill. No cleaning. We are at 150 but used to be at roughly 300 head. I have started spinning and it would be better money for us to clean the wool. Mill quality acceptance for clean wool is probably less than for spinning. I appreciate that you are actually Farming and not some suburban housewife or gentleman farmer. Stay strong and keep up your great Vids. I appreciate the real deal.@@ShearGoodness

Hi, thank you so much for your wonderful informative video. I have been feeling a little depressed about not spinning evenly and over spinning ect… (real beginner problems)… before buying this in 2020 all I did was a bit of Spindle spinning ( which I still love to do) and to hear you explain that what I have been experiencing is normal when new to an ESpinner is heartening. I love chunky yarn and more arty yarns and that is why I bought this size ESpinner in the first place. It is really the over spinning and the way to set the yarn that I need help with. Have you a video about wet setting and removing the yarn off the bobbin? I am not sure if I have been doing this right, or even if my yarn is stable to give to my friend to weave with.. I have wet set my singles and some I have weighted to help with the over spin… I have since learnt this is not good to do. Any help most appreciated. ❤

I will be making more videos to complete my "wool processing" playlist. Removing the yarn/using a niddy noddy/setting the twist will definitely be included. I don't use a weight or do any thwacking. I find that the overtwist settles down after setting the twist and winding it into a ball of yarn. Don't be discouraged by the uneven spinning. The joke in my house is that I say everything has "character" when it is not "perfect." If we wanted perfect, we would buy commercial products. I would rather enjoy the "character" and imperfections of handmade! Maybe I should show more examples of my early stuff. Even the worst can have a use. For example, I used my worst on a loom and weaved a scarf. As for over spinning, slow down the speed and increase the tension. And much practice.
