This video is a gold mine of information. I've been doing a lot of work on my Integra, and have been tossing around the idea of slimming down the harness and tucking it, this just put me over the edge, thanks a bunch! Thanks for sharing all your car knowledge with us over the years.
@dropinbiking92
@dropinbiking92 6 лет назад
It's a base model second gen, no airbags, ABS, cruise, or power anything. I've already got the power steering out of it, it was an auto car, that's gone, and I know the manual components are a lot lighter. I had a really similar 92 Integra that was 2490. I'm hoping to get this one around 2400. This one has a little ebay turbo kit on it too, hence why I'm thinking of slimming and tucking the harness, I'm already in there doing wiring.
@dropinbiking92
@dropinbiking92 6 лет назад
I shaved the studs for the injector harness box off the fuel rail and have the injectors angled with the plugs and wiring running under the runners and meet up behind the block. All the engine plugs are joining up under the intake manifold at the moment and I'll probably run that loom straight back through the firewall than branch off where they need to go. I've got the fenders off and am just starting to get the passenger side relocated on the inner fender, haven't touched the drivers side yet. I wanna focus on finishing running the engine harness to the ECU and gauges before I finish anything on the body harness. There's a lot you can get rid of in these engine bays haha I love working on these older hondas.

I wanted to do videos and such working on my car it's just such a pain in the ass. I'm barely motivated enough to be working on it at all hahaha

Being able to do this type of wiring/troubleshooting is the car worlds equivalent of a brain surgeon. The technical details are often too tedious for most people to have patience for. I have to say *Thank You* to Al for putting this information out to us and taking the time to explain what he is doing along the way. This is the type of skill you cannot learn from a book. All the little details along the way about spacing/length certain connections, tagging and not keeping the looms separate are things you can only learn through experience. This video and all the information Al has given is priceless. Thank you for sharing with us!!

We use millimeters as a measurement often in America and learn both systems of measurement but rarely use the metric. I could ride in a car and tell you when we reach a mile but would count 3 miles if you quizzed me on a kilometer and how I came up with three miles I haven't a clue. 😅Aussie lingo, when describing a activity or process... I noticed aussie's will just say the action to describe a entire process rather then a entire sentence. I love it, clear and to the point.

I'm in the middle of putting a toyota 5mge into a 93 toyota pickup and I would have to agree on everything he said. Don't think of starting unless you have ALL the wiring schematics and go one wire at a time. It can be done but it takes a lot of time.
@aserta
@aserta 6 лет назад
Alan doesn't specifically say this, but the reason why you should never, ever let the loom run loose (or worse, take it apart completely) is because the loom is made on a jig, with tolerances, and if you start messing with order, length, position, tie points etc, you risk changing its architecture and the way it behaves and that's when wires snap, twist and break in the sheath etc.
@GdaySport
@GdaySport 6 лет назад
If I did that to a car it would never run again! This is a very rare skill nowadays, and you are lucky to be able to find someone with this kind of experience.

I've been on both sides of the student / master relationship over years and it can be very rewarding to have either. When both people have respect for each other it can be a bit magical. The student can pull an insane amount of knowledge and experience out of the master by asking gentle questions, and the master is there to make sure the student does things "right". Usually, they will have a great deal of pride in a good student. When the relationship is right, it's not a school, it's a friendship that sticks around through the years. It's great to see that sort of thing alive and well today. Turbo Yodo makes boring shit .. well .. pretty interesting. This channel is a fountain of practical knowledge and this channel has grown to be one of my click-immediately channels. I hope this comment hits home a bit more than the usual disparaging 'tube trolling.

thankyou for calling out the issue with aftermarket ECUs, the frustrating thing is that some older ECU's are now failing - just spent 600 dollars getting a 1UZ ecu repaired, a Modern ecu would sure be more reliable but as you say, the testing to make it legal is difficult and very expensive.

I was trying to match the wires based on a couple of internet sources with the corresponding colours. I now realize that they might be different. This changes everything. The only thing I would do differently based on my complete lack of experience is, I would use a different colour electrical tape for the other loom so when they are placed on top of each other I wouldn't get confused.

Love where the industry has gone over the years. Remember guys cursing manufactures for bringing computers into veichles. Today we can take just about any factory computer, flash it (within reason) to our liking while gaining a performance goal, and still street legal.

Great informative video. Also great to see how comfortable Al is in front of the camera these days. Still need some different mics as he speaks so quiet!
