www.permies.com Using wedges, mauls and sledge hammers to split rails. These started off as some really big, sick cedar trees. Useful for split rail fence. Splitting logs for several hours. This video is just a taste.
Most of the split wood was used for posts. Deer fencing could use super tall posts that you just can't buy in stores.

I cut some 14 inch across ash into 12 to 18 inch lengths. 6 months later I attentped to split one of the pieces before carving it into a mortar pestle set. I used steel wedges and a sledge hammer. I ended up beating on that piece for an hour before finally getting thru it.

nice vid, i use a wedge for splittin firewood..the wedge with the half-twist works best, keeps it from getting stuck,(non-wedging wedge?!)

Dont look like cedar to me i live where there is the best red cedar in the world cedar if its good is as red as blood.

joe tiller you are probably talking about eastern red "cedar" or juniperus virginiana which in reality is actually just a species of juniper, not cedar
