I never put my entire reel or spool in a bowl of hot water it can cause internals to rust the better solution is put it on your rod and run the line through every single eye on your rod then have a second person or set the spool of line on the ground and make sure it comes off of the spool of line perfectly straight
It dosent get rid of the memory, if you ever have those curls that are annoying asf it's because of the lines memory, it's a better idea to just set the roll of new line in a bowl of warm water and spool it onto your reel. That way you aren't risking fucking up your reel with water and it dosent have memory
Another tip I figured out is when pulling line off the spool you can over tighten your breaks. This will allow you to pull the line off as fast as you want without back lashing the spool
I just keep a spinning rod and 2500 reel around and I put line on then tie it to my bait caster. then I loosen the drag on the spinning reel enough so I can reel it off with the bait caster. Comes out perfect every time and doesn’t end up uneven.
if you got a garage full of tools like me, use a piece of wood, put a deck screw in it, grind off the tip of the screw, then use a drill to grip the screw and use that to help when unspooling a reel
@@mnangler2383I just use braid and a couple feet of Fluoro leader, gives you the benefit of less visibility and the sensitivity of braid, if you use a few feet you get several lure changes out of it before you need a new leader.
Braid is the worst when it comes to nesting. If your nesting with mono or fluro you ain't diled in or just need my thumb control practice. I nest nomore than 2 times of all day fishing(and that's quick detangles), I snag low hanging limbs more than anything lol.
@sammyglo5354 the few times I've had a birds nest with braid it came out super quick and easy. The only reason it nested up is because I forgot to adjust the spool tension when switching lures. It's not the line, it's the fisherman.
A thing I like to do. I'll take my spool of line put a pencil through the hole in the middle and put it in an Amazon box or some box big enough for the spool but small enough that the pencil can't stand straight up in. That way the spool won't try to run away from you or flip around. And because the spool is rubbing on the box it won't back-spool like crazy if you reel line in quickly and they slow down or stop. I always spool my reels while they're on the rod. That way it's one less step to do. I use backing line to braid so I just pull line out till I hit the backing line pull a couple feet past that and then tie the braid to my backing.
i get all the way to the lasts tep, but for some reason, when i spin the thing on the side, the string isnt wrapping around the baitcaster. Im a noob first time fishing solo. And have no idea how to spool this thing. All the tutorials make it look soo easy, could there be something wrong with my rod?
Put the whole spool of line in a large bowl of hot water and leave it in the water while reeling in the line and that will work better than letting your bait caster soak in water.
Little tip for making that knot on the spool; run your line through one of the holes and then crank it once, the other end of the line will rap around and you can simply start your knot, no reaching your fingers in to try and grab it that’s some bs.
@@HopatcongHQ that’s what I meant maybe I worded wrong, since braid doesn’t stretch it needs to be tied into the spool or have a rubber/double-sided taped spool. That is if you don’t do a mono backing. I don’t actually fish lol just spooled thousands of reels while working at a sporting goods store for several years.
You don’t need monofilament backing you would just tie the braid directly to the spool and put a piece of electrical tape at the end and then start reeling it in
Bro just said do the knot💀 nah but to be fair it is very hard to record the exact angle the whole time. Thanks anyway, also a tip for you when taking line off is thumbing the spool and when you do that you can pull line out as fast as you want(: Tight Lines!
Does your lock switch on the VBS cover fully engage? Mine did the first 4 or 5 times for this reel but now only goes half way. Just bought it and taking it back.
Question what the hot water rust for real cause? I’ve accidentally put one of my rods that was a spinning wheel in hot water, and it just totally broke.
Why wouldn’t you just use the old braid as backing? Leave maybe 200-250 yards as backing. Then tie on maybe 60-70 yards of new line? You can’t buy braid as smooth and as soft as broken in braid. That stuff will never birdsnest.
To much line on the right of your spool. Follow the line guide as you spool. Also make sure your coming off the top of the spool of line. Make sure the normal memory of the line goes on the reel the same.
Put the line back over itself and then through the loop it makes, you know you've done it right if a little knot appears in the line. Kinda hard to explain so I recommend looking it up 👍
If you don't want to use leaders just go full mono. However you'll be dealing with line twists from time to time with mono. Braid has no memory and no stretch.
