Your videos are well thought out, well shot, and well edited. I'm looking forward to more from you. This video would have saved 20 year old me lots of frustration.

The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight ru-vid.comUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

Excellent advice!!!! As I said to Ander's Fishing: "I'm sorry to tell you this, but mono, flouro and even braided fishing line is a plastic. Only the really strong stuff is made out of non-plastic stuff, and even some of that is as well. Wind it on your reel any way you wish but make sure it is snug, not too tight, but snug. After it's spooled, remove the spool from the reel and dunk the spool in 120ºF water for several minutes and the polymers in that plastic will align it's self to the spool it has been wound upon. Take it out and let it cool naturally so that the polymer's molecular structure aligns with the way it has been wound. Once cooled, naturally, there will be no twisting of the fishing line, polymer, around the spool. This is basic chemistry for anyone whom has studied it. There will be no twisting or anything else. Plastics, polymers, tend to take the shape of what they are formed to, like fishing line. Don't go over 120ºF or you will destroy it's elasticity and strength, but if held under 120ºF, it will form properly. This is no special trick, it is how chemicals react to heat and how molecules align themselves. It's basic chemistry. If your line looses it's effective strength, then you've probably over heated it. After that, return the spool to the reel and lubricate the entire reel so that the water doesn't effect the reel performance. Easy peasy!! No, I looked at this for 2 mminutes and turned it off and made my comments. Maybe he suggested the same after the 2 minute mark but . . . . no matter. Hot water cures most polymer twisting "memory" problems." This is my take. I've never had problems spooling a reel on a spit, and as long as it goes on snug, the results have always been the same.

Trying the soaking trick right now! I like to run straight fluoro on my trout reels and I occasionally fight line twist. Can be super frustrating especially since fluoro isnt cheap. I like braid for bass, but fluoro just feels better to me when trout fishing and I dont have to worry about tying leaders since I retie often. Thanks for the great video!

Always was taught if the reel turns counter clockwise, then it should come off the spool counter clockwise and vice versa. I do like the idea of soaking the line previous to spooling. Going to give that a try.

Love that you didn't regurgitate what so many people claim - that closing the bail by reeling in adds line twist. It doesn't. But having loose coils can definitely causes issues. Appreciate the info!

Best guide I've seen on the subject - consolidates a lot of the advice I'd seen scattered around elsewhere, and brings it together really well with the 'why' as well as the 'how'. Also adds a couple of points I'd never thought of. Excellent video, thank you !

Awesome video. 1 tip: if you hold your reel upside down you can see that it turns counter clockwise, so that’s the direction you want to spool your line on. Also with the up or down sticker that could go both ways depending on the manufacturer

Glad you liked the video! The line cutter is made by Boomerang Tool Company. You can find them on Amazon for about $10.

Great information. Two questions; do you also soak braid before installing on a spinning reel? And do you also install with label up? Thanks
@fishingduoproductions
@fishingduoproductions Год назад
Braid is way more manageable so I found soaking it isn't needed. However, I do wind it on with the label up (assuming the line comes off counter-clockwise with the label up) like I do with mono. More out of habit than necessity. But heavier braid can be stiff and twist too so every little thing helps when spooling up a spinning reel. Thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video!
@bigjaype
@bigjaype Год назад
What everyone forgets is that these type of reels constantly introduce line twist during use. The only way to prevent line twist when spooling new line is to use a line spooling rig.

Spool it up anyway you want. On your way out on the pond or lake let the line out with nothing tied to the end and empty spool. Reel line back in which now has perfect tension and zero line twist

What?So spooling less line will make it retrieve slower?What? You say on an underfilled spool you get less rotational retrievals? Please explain how you are wrapping less line? I think science says otherwise?
@fishingduoproductions
@fishingduoproductions 2 месяца назад
Each full rotation of the handle causes the bail to revolve around the spools a set number of times (it does not change). Less line on the spool means it has a smaller diameter/circumference.. Therefore, less line is retrieved. For example, 5 rotations around a spool with a circumference of 4 inches means each full turn of the handle retrieves 20 inches of line. Conversely, 5 rotations around a spool with a circumference of 3.5 inches only retrieves 17.5 inches of line per turn. Hence, an under filled spool has a slower retrieve overall.
