Doubling indicates zircon ( along with nibbled facet edges). For CZ, put it table down and look at the dispersion coming from the pavillion... If it's mostly dark blue and orange (NYMets colors) it's CZ.

I love this video!! Now I don't know if this idea is practical at all, so feel free to disregard! BUT I think it would be so interesting to see a video of y'all going to thrift store jewelry sections (or buying random jewelry from a second hand shop) and trying to find/identify real and random faceted gems? :o Would be cool to see if you manage to find any *ahem* HIDDEN GEMS 😜

Please do a similar video on identification on rough diamonds. Many young enthusiasts like me pick up a zircon or Topaz or quartz and mistake it for diamond. If lucky, we even pick up phenakite. But i want you to make a video on rough diamond.

Hoping you saw this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6VPmRPnUeyQ.html ...we'll think about doing another specifically on ID. But in the meantime, you may want to consider getting an inexpensive polariscope. Assuming you can pass light through the gems, those other stones you mentioned should go dark 4 times through a 360 degree rotation on the polariscope, while diamond, being isotropic, should not.

Maybe you should add one more point in Diamond identification. The Dot analysis. Where you simply draw a large dot on paper and place the stone inverted( turning the table top facing down) on top of the dot. If it's a real diamond you won't see the dot through the stone. If the dot is visible then it's a fake diamond💎.

In geology we use luster as a diagnostic to help in ID of rough (obviously 😂) minerals a lot, and it can be difficult to classify! Even with the experience I have, still don't really understand adamantine luster vs glassy. But then, I've seen no diamonds that I could look at up close and personal even though we do have some deposits here in Colorado

What i also look out for when inspecting a suspected"diamond", especially when I am handling clients' own jewelry, is inclusions: it is unlikely to buy a flawless or IF diamond for a cheap price, and if my client tells me they got it for cheap, and i see no inclusions of some sort, then I question myself and I do further research! ps - love your videos guys, keep going

Love listening to your videos...I have to point out though, just from experience...the 'cut' of a diamond could very well be off and uneven..it all depends on who cut it and in what country it was cut...our western standards for cutting are not at all the same as elsewhere and of course historically, when diamonds were hand cut, they were not perfect at all...I love old mine cuts and have never seen one that was perfectly cut with matched facet edges meeting exactly where we would think they should..this cannot be used to determine if what you are looking at is a diamond at all...

On two different occasions I found faceted clear gems lying on road / sidewalk. Where in toronto can I find an expert who could tell if these are diamonds or not. I placed these on a schoolboy's scale and found that these could be 1 ct. and 1.5 ct. A professional can make accurate measurement and weigh them too and also use loop for polishing quality and i guess there are electromagnetic instruments to test material ... all these i know from videos and blogs but where can i get a person to do all these tests in toronto? ... i can certainly try to scratch (say on concrete paved sidewalk with stone chips of different types) and see if it scratches ... would moissanite scratch if rubbed on such surfaces? I seriously want to sell these two gems if they are real diamond but apparently no jewelry shop ever buys from retail seller

The fastest way to check a diamond…if it’s loose….put it down on a black surface. If you can see black (the black surface it’s sitting on) it’s not a diamond. You cannot see through a diamond.

The Cost of Diamonds versus their Value are two different things. Diamonds are NOT Rare at all. In fact, they are quite plentiful especially when considering industrial diamonds versus gem diamonds. The ONLY thing that makes them "appear" rare is the fact that the Industry regulates and limits the number of diamonds to be put in the market each year. The Industry controls the flow and thus the rarity. Meanwhile the Industry has MILLIONS of diamonds and the vast majority of Large and/or Unique diamonds which will never see the market unless they can increase the Cost to a point that makes sense to sell something. It's all a big SCAM if you ask me which is why I promote Lab-Made Diamonds to my friends. Why waste money on a big scam when you can get an equally beautiful, genuine diamond for much less cost and thus don't have to play in the crooked game of diamond sales.

Diamonds are nice. But do we really need to keep mining them? Do you know how many are stored in drawers and are sparingly released to keep the demand and prices high? Now we are scraping ocean floors for them. We protect humans who are used for slave labor. But we do not have the same concerns for the animals and plant life. As consumers you all have the power to keep these mining companies in check. Slow the demand down. Or as much as I hate suggesting this , purchase lab grown. We actually do not need to destroy areas for diamonds anymore. As with many gems that can be lab grown. These are NOT synthetic gems people. But they do stop warlords from mining conflict gems. And we most certainly do not need to tear up the oveans for them.. All of these major mining companies hold material back just to drive prices way up. This is also true with precious metals stored away. Have you ever seen the long lasting effects of gold mining? Go to Alaska and take a look. They blast whole hillsides away and divert water. How about that superb black opal. Has anyone seen the miles and miles of open mine shafts in Australia? And diamonds. Another area where blasting is making a huge mess. Just slow the demand down sone and at least make some difference. We require logging companies to replant. We conserve our fishing grounds even though other countries are robbing us of them. I feel animals and vegetation is very important to our ecosystem.and I feel futire generations should be able to see nature and not paths of destruction.. It is bad enough that we clear huge areas because of population growth. And even our farmlands are in a losing battle. Just think. That is all I am asking.
