its really hard sometimes i have come across REALLY GOOD quality fakes. i have also got double pins from a mystery i knew both were authentic but colors varied quite a bit. its a hard life in the pin trading hobby lol!

I've bought mystery boxes myself from disney world and they had sharp edges. If I didn't buy it myself I'd swear it was fake. I'm so sad disney dropped their standards bc that was my only 100% way to tell the difference!

Thanks Cheryl. I'm completely frustrated trying to figure it out. I really wish the magnet worked. That would be so easy. So happy to have been directed to your channel this week from the Facebook page for Canadian Pin Trading.

I have bought a lot of pins online and I never suspected any of them to be fake. I just thought "you get what you pay for." I turned out to have loads of fake pins, which is a total bust.

We bought our grandchildren a lot of pins from Character Warehouse to trade at the parks. Oh my goodness, I think that they traded for fake pins. From now on, I will let them pick out specific pins or sets to just keep. Thank you for sharing. From one Disney fanatic to another, have a magical day sprinkled with pixie dust! :-)

Bluescity1 Disney with some practice, you can eventually get an eye for fakes. But sometimes they still trick us. The important thing is that your grandkids have fun 😊 we mainly created this video for those seriously into collecting.

Great video! Ty! My daughter and I just started collecting and I bought a pin lot off Etsy and posted one for sale on Mercari. Someone told me one of the pins I bought was a fake. I was shocked because I had no idea and grateful for that information. Found your video trying to educate myself. Thanks again!

Bulk lots are usually fake. Your best best for buying pins at a reasonable price are on Facebook pin trading groups. Or try Facebook sellers like "Pinderella" or "Booster Packs and Beyond".

When buying on eBay, if the pin is mounted on a cardboard backing with a Disney Parks barcode and sticker on the back, chances are it is most likely genuine, not always but has a much higher chance of being genuine. Fake/scrapper pins rarely come with the cardboard backing and are sold loose. Also do not buy cheap lots of pins on eBay as they will all be fake. Even when buying single loose pins, if they are ridiculously cheap then they are likely fake.

Yes--I picked up a fake Atlantica pin my last day at my resort. Am I at all concerned it is fake? Nope. It is definitely a fake because of the two misspelled words on the back and the crummy patina on the spires. But I won’t be back to the parks for TEN years. And Ariel is my princess (1982 baby). So yeah, I need this pin. And the cast member I got it from had a huge smile on her face when I traded for it-I told her it was my last night on property and that I had been looking for it for years! Maybe a magical moment for us both.

I bought a mystery pack at Disneyland once and one pin had terrible sharp edges. Worse than I've seen on real pins. If I didn't buy it myself I would have thought it was fake.

A great way I’ve seen is to look at the pin in the back. 99% of the time a real Disney pin will have two rivets, one on each side, on the sides of the pin. I saw it with every real pin in this video.

Kathy Marie thanks. Just note; fakes will also have the nodules sometimes but they will not be as defined. Disney Pin’s will have much larger ones.

Even the 2 little things next to the needle isn’t a good test cause I bought a new 2019 holidays pin and it doesn’t have it 😧 and yes I bought it from inside the store. I think there is no good test other than just knowing
@OurDidneeSides

Yeah. It just takes practice with training your eye on what to look for. It's getting harder and harder to tell nowadays.

I love this video! It's so incredibly helpful! I went to Disney World only once when I was younger. I loved pins and bought a few authentic ones from the multiple stores around the park. But I also traded with a few cast members, so I'm not sure which ones are real or not. At that time I didn't know much about pins, I just got the ones I liked. I'll definitely be checking all of my pins! :)

Pin trading can be hard bc my first couple of trades turned out fake. I was really sad bc I got an orange bird pin and it might be fake. Oh well! Its Orange bird so who'd really cares? Also, finding A Bug's Life pins are hard! Well not really, but the pictures are always bad quality and I don't want to risk that.

Easy solution: Don’t trade Disney pins you buy from a verified Disney source, such as the parks or cruise lines. Buy a pin lot from eBay (clearly fake pins) and only use those for trading, if you get a real pin from a fake, keep it. Other then that, you can trade fakes for fakes and still enjoy pin trading. Any pins I busy from Disney will not be traded. I’ll only trade fake pins, because then I don’t have to worry about being scammed. Before you say I’m a scammer, I’m not. I just have “useless” fake pins, that most little kids don’t care if their pins are “real” or not, because they don’t care about the difference. Most cast members don’t even notice either. I’m not defending fake pins, I’m just saying, it’s a cheaper alternative where you still get to enjoy the act of trading and gaining a pin you really like. Please don’t hate, this is just my personal opinion. Only trade real pins for real pins, or jut trade fakes and never have to worry, because less worrying is more fun.

Kim S. This is my fear about pin trading I wouldn’t advise trading real pins in the park because I’d be soooo mad if I got a fake one! However I saw a video where authentic pin traders set up shop at Epcot for pin trading so idk lol

How about not being so damn fussy. They are all made in China anyway.
@OurDidneeSides
@OurDidneeSides 6 лет назад
Lucia's Memory Ln this video is intended for those collectors that choose to be fussy. We understand that people collect anything they think is pretty. But some people see their collection as a valuable investment and only want the highest quality pins in them.
@ozpin707
@ozpin707 5 лет назад
Lucia's Memory Ln It’s okay if you don’t have a concern about it, but true collectors have a right to be “fussy”. I doubt if you bought something expensive, you’d be okay with it being fake. Same goes for pin collectors
@kathymcel
@kathymcel 5 лет назад
I might trade a real one I don't care for and get a fake one that I think is cool and I won't care but if I spent a lot on a pin and wanted a rare I would be upset if it turned out to be fake. Everyone has a different view on certain things like a special collection that they put time and money into.
