The fake will always be just that fake. The real one is something you will enjoy for many years, and one day be able to pass down. An authentic VCA item will retain and possibly increase in value. A fake will not. I love that I know my jewelry is real gold with excellent workmanship. The VCA Alhambra collection has been around for over 50 years. This is truly a classic. I see it as an investment in classic timeless jewelry. In the end, you do you boo!

when it comes to van cleefs, if you have a good dupe, you can basically say it’s real im sorry, THEYRE BASICALLY THE SAME EXACT THING, except ones from the actual brand while one isn’t, but it’s still the same exact thing, im sorry😭😭😭😭😭

Exactly. I was going to buy the real one, but my jeweler got an exact dupe. 18k gold, black onyx, perfect clovers and spacing and clasp. It was about 800 total and I absolutely love it

For relatively modern luxury jewelry you typically want to start authenticating based on the serial number. (You can even do it on your own to verify a second hand piece you bought. "Hello *insert jeweler*? I inherited a *insert iconic design name* here from my grandmother. Can you tell me if it's real? I want to have it cleaned and inspected if it is." Easy peasy.) This bracelet though, most of what you see are knockoffs. The quatrefoil shape has been around for a million years so it's not trademarkable, so any jeweler can use it.

I mean if you have a confirmed real one, anything that looks different is fake. Luxury brands are probably careful about making sure that all their pieces are identifiable and uniform so that dupes aren’t easy to make.

Gosh, I love the VCA Alhambra designs. Specially with the lapis lazuli. Any of the stones look nice imo, but lapis lazuli matches with my skin tone well, and look great with a lot of clothes 👌🤷🫶

Weird way of authenticating, it’s better to check if it’s real gold (a hallmark should be on the bracelet), then every chain links should be soldered and it would be nice to test the stone to see if it’s real onyx or not! And last the flat edge of the links should be sharp and shiny… 😊

Why does it matter if your wearing a fake bracelet? Nobody is going to know you're wearing a cheaper version. Is it status signaling or does it mean something? Unless there's an app where better definition allows people to check for forgeries, how can we know how much people are wearing when they leave the house? And why does it matter anymore? If you can't explain that people, they're going to run off and find new brands. When you run fresh out of meaning, they're going to find new brands for Jewelry. What makes that inherently special?

I LOVE this post!! Being able to spot a well made copy is a real skill. Although I’m a firm believer in “appreciation pieces”; my term for knock off, it just sounds better. And there is a place for well made appreciation pieces in the market imho. Not everyone wants to spend $10,000 on a bracelet.. makes me look at my $20.00 Cartier love bangle with, well, love… engraved so perfectly, weighted beautifully… THE best “appreciation piece” I own. I’ve fooled jewelers with it!!! The only “tell” is the bogus serial # engraved inside isn’t a match…
