I liked the story about the "Noah's Ark Lady"; that's a very Protestant approach to arguments. It's like when people say "Jesus said 'It is Finished'" and then just pretend means the Jesus "finished" anything they want Him to have finished.
God tells us to strive in some versions says to make every effort. There is noting wrong for wanting to do what are Father asks of us to please Him. We want to please our Father.
Thank you. David. Be blessed along with Deborah and family. Keep these talks coming. They are sorely needed and appreciated to know the truth and to stay in the truth. I'm expecting reading material from you. I want to financially assist. God bless. Amador from Puerto Rico.
Hey. Puerto Rico!! Quick question. Your personal opinion. Puerto Rico. Would you rather have it be a USA state? Its own country again? Or stay as is? I know you probably dont care because your living for another Kingdom but if you had to chose?
I personally know the person who was originally addressed publicly. I don't know the history of what he used to teach but the way Bercot portrays the scales is not how this person teaches it today. The way it's taught today is like this. We sin, it goes on one side of the scales, we do good works, it goes on the other side of the scales, and no matter how hard we try, our good works do not overcome our sin. We cannot work our way to salvation. We need God's grace. This person would strongly believe in the saved by grace and then staying on the vine through simple obedience to Christ. This is what Bercot believes as well. It saddens me that there would have been a public conflict like this without at least trying to discuss the matter privately first unless there was such an attempt made. (Matthew 18) From my perspective, I listened to both men a lot over the years, and I agree with 90% or so of what both teach, and I don't see them in disagreement. Rather, I see one addressing people who believe in works only. I see one addressing people who believe in grace only. Both men believe in, faithfully practice and teach both works and grace.
@Loren Yoder Thanks very much for bringing your perspective. I was present when David first gave this short message, and it was actually a response to another brother who had looked into and presented a response to the person you mention. I don't believe that David is familiar with the teachings of the person you mention, but, being very familiar with how evangelicals tend to use the scales analogy, he was responding to its typical usage. I'm sure you're right that the person you speak of teaches that good works are necessary for staying on the vine, but the issue is that when we reinterpret Protestant terminology in order to describe what we believe, we tend to eventually accept what the Protestants actually mean by it. For example, I'm in conversation with a number of men who say they believe in "justification by faith alone," and yet believe that good works are necessary. Though they may be correct in their belief, they shouldn't phrase it as justification by faith alone, because that's not what "faith alone" means to those who use the term most today. So I think David was responding less to the exact usage of the person you mention, and more to the typical usage among Protestants. Does that make sense? -Lynn
Those introductory sound bites were garbage.... wow!! Thanks David Bercot for exposing these false teachings. Anything that downplays the doing of good, diminishing the doing of righteousness, obeying God etc... is out of the pit of hell. Jesus does a whole lot with his mission in his first visit, but ultimately it was to transform the luke warm doing of good at best and making people that resemble God, i.e. sons and daughters of God. In other words, fallacious arguments, typically of Protestant origen, suggest being a little like God but a little like Satan is ok... this is why we need Jesus, but unwilling to admit this is what they are saying, not being transformed from darkness to light but stay like, this resting in Jesus... is so Satanic. Many will downplay EFFORT as evil... this is garbage to be blunt.
8:00 Why just the New Testament? Is not all Scripture God-breathed and good for correction and reproof of doctrine and good works? Did the Apostles not prove doctrine by the Old Testament as well?
Not just the New Testament. However, the apostles, in the New Testament, demonstrate for us how we should understand and read the Old Testament. So the New Testament teaches us what the Old Testament means to Christians. -Lynn
David...you are a good teacher. But have you really investigated the teaching of “going to heaven?” The well known Greek Bible scholar, N T Wright, has really researched this particular topic. It is interesting what he has found about the New Creation. You are sincere and want to teach the truth... investigate this particular teaching and see what the Bible really says about “heavenly life.”
Brother David, bless you and family. Sorry for mentioning your wife's name. I caught on to that, and on the phone with your son, he agreed that is was prudent just to say David and family. My pardon. Loved the videos and Bible truth exposed. Keep them coming. God bless. Amador from Puerto Rico.
Very informative. These are the heresies that derive from human logic, like for example Jehovah's Witnessess will tell: "how can a loving God send someone to everlasting hell?" A wise man once said: "I am afraid of the man of the single verse."
Matthew 19:17...." If you want to enter life, keep the commandments." Jesus told people how to live and h expects us to do what he said. His sacrifice is "only" for those who follow his commandments.
I have been watching many of your videos and Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:28-29 are quoted allot and I am frightened they may apply to me. I really REALLY want to follow Christ!! Is it too late for me? The amount of anguish and despair that I may be permanently cutoff from Christ with no chance of restoration is unbearable for me! Hebrews 6 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 [a]if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. Hebrews 10 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
One question Ex JW. Basically. I agree with David What church or where to go to find fellow Christians? This IS the JW worry lol But I simply cannot in good conscience attend any I’ve researched Suggestions?
Hi Tim, Remember our conversations how the Greek word pistis commonly translated "faith" has the meanings of both faith and faithfulness? A Christian demonstrates faith in and love for God by relationship with and obedience to God. This understanding of faith/pistis being both words and actions is all over the New Testament, especially in James. i.e. faith without works is dead.
The Roman Catholic Church would agree with Mr. Bercot's position on, say for example, the diety of Jesus Christ. Does that automatically make that position wrong? If not, what's the point of your comment?
