still don't care for the opera windows or 1972 back swoop-up but love the crome tail light's on my uncle's 1-owner 71 SE-440 auto. so too bad there isn't a miss match of the best 3-gen bit's tastes wise😉 i ended up getting a 69 BBM car so i might be bisted to my car

I'm pretty sure the 71-72 have a relatively flat ( Horizontal ) back section right before the sheetmetal rolls over to form the back where it meets the bumper. On 73-74 the back section ramped up slightly before turning down to meet the bumper. A kind of built in spoiler. A 71 -72 trunklid will bolt up to 73-74 but will not be even with the tops of the quarter panels at the rear of the car. This was one of the changes in the body from 72 to 73.
@MrMajikman1
@MrMajikman1 8 месяцев назад
Yes, you are correct about the '71 rear body line. I had one. The '71 was the best body style of the third generation if you ask me, and mostly because of the rear body line you mentioned! Mine was identical to the one at 2:55 right down to the color, but it didn't have the landau top., but it did have a 383 big block in it.

I learned something from your video. I have a 72. I did not know that the 72 front fender and doors were year specific. I know 71 fenders were because of the obvious different side marker but I always figured 72-74 fenders and doors were the same. Thanks.

Very nice primer! on the differences between the 2nd and 3rd gen chargers would add that the 3rd gen had the rubber isolated larger k- frame and longer t- bars vs the solid mounted smaller 2nd gen k-frame shorter t-bars and the 74s almost always had the iso- clamp rear spring rubber mounted oval bushings. And there was even a variation between the 73/74 k - frames the front strut bushing on some 73s was the same size as the 2nd gen while all the 74s had the larger strut rod bushings.... I know cause I have a 73 big block k-frame with the smaller holes for the bushing. Great stuff man! Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year!
@floyds.mayhem.garage
@floyds.mayhem.garage 3 года назад
the 71/72 chargers still had the same style k frame as the first and second gen charger with the upper control arms mounted to the body. its amazing how many differences there were, the 71/71 chargers were Almont completely different from 73/74 even though they visually look the same

You forgot the body line side crease on the lower side. You mentioned the top line but the latter Chargers has matching line crease but the '71 lower line crease did not meet.
@chargerdave2046
@chargerdave2046 3 года назад
1 other little detail that I don't think you mentioned. The body line off of the 1/4, that meets up with the trunk edge of the pillar on a 71/72 go straight back towards the bumper. On the 73/74 that line curves up towards the trunk at the back, like a small ducktail
@jamesthomas7977
@jamesthomas7977 2 года назад
The rear 1/4 window on that 73 looks virtually the same as the 71-72 road runner. Also, I noticed that the wheels its sporting are from a 1st generation Chrysler Concorde. I think they look good.
@dodgetony75
@dodgetony75 11 месяцев назад
One thing you missed was the celebrity roof that was only available in the 1974 Charger. it was basically the SE minus the louvers and was usually found on the spring special, also unlike the SE that had the vinyl go 3/4 the way back the vinyl on the celebrity roof covered the entire roof. I know for a fact that it did come as an option on the rallye version. I know this cause I have one. The spring special only came in earth tones and you could get unique vinyl roofs with patterns. Other than that I think you did a very good job with the differences between the years

@@stevensgarage998 I had a '71 SE and mine were continuous with a slightly wider metal fin at the center of the hood. R/T may have been a little different, as the stock R/T's had the 2 vertical fins on the doors, and the stock SE did not.

@slayer5813 3 года назад
I'm pretty sure your neighbor's '73 did not come with 1971 Super Bee tail lights from the FACTORY. Yes a previous owner (if neighbor isn't the original owner) could've changed the tail lights out with a set from a '71. But from the factory, NO.
