Great info, Jeff. As a hobbyist, I have an Earlex HVLP. Cheap but gets the job done for what I need. Bill

Interesting advice to filter the paint manually vs using the PPS integrated filter. Never tried that but will give it a shot. 🎯

I think that filter causes issues sometimes!

great presentation on spraying paint. you guys always have useful info in your presentations. request - go over spraying non-paint finishes if you would please? I have yet to begin using a spray guns and want to insure that what I setup both physically and procedurally works for both paint and poly/laquer/etc. if possible. I usually over research stuff, but do not want to make more mistakes than necessary. Great job!

Thanks so much! We use the same Enduro Pro Series polyurethane in clear. Sprays fantastic!

I just got done using the Apollo for the first time. It was great. Easy clean-up. Easy to use. Sprays plenty fast enough when the pressure is up. Adjustable fan pattern was a life saver on the first job. Even airless is just a bit too fast for me and can be too much over spray for inside customers homes. Have you guys tried the Apollo pot with mini compressor?
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 2 месяца назад
Awesome! I have not but I’ve considered buying the pressure pot for days that we spray a decent amount. If I just need to spray one cup I typically reach for the 3M PPS.

Thats a nice system.❤ never used hvlp , but i definitely gonna try it someday. It looks like there is less overspray

It’s nice! More controlled than airless for sure.

Hmm… pour some paint through the pps lid, it flows well. Straining was the step that sold me on PPS (that and spraying upside down).

That filter can definitely cause issues! I know many people who have had the same experience.

One more - is that always your go to method ... spray one direction and then perpendicular for each coat?
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 5 месяцев назад
Depends on the shape of the part but generally, yes.

Great video. Can the unit spray thicker coatings like latex or some of the thicker pigmented lacquers? I noticed that you only had the discharge pressure at 4 psi so that got me thinking that the unit might be able to handle thicker materials. Thanks.

Yes you can! I spray our high solid primer through it no problem.

Can you let the paint sit in the gun for all three applications?
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 5 месяцев назад
Yeah that’s usually not an issue but if you’re spraying any decent amount of parts you’ll be filling the cup up a few times to get your 3 coats.
@sethhamilton5824
@sethhamilton5824 4 месяца назад
For a 1 part finish yes. For a 2k finish then you have until the pot life.
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 4 месяца назад
Yup, I’ve made this mistake with 2k but thankfully it was in the PPS gun so I just threw away the tip.

Air assisted airless here. I have to say it was painful watching how not fast ( didn't want to say slow) the turbine is. You'll never look back, just saying. You'll be at a flee market someday in the future and say I remember I had one of those. If you're spraying in someone's house it's not a good thing. Keep on keeping on .

Slower than a AAA yes but when you only spray about 2 gallons a day max I think the cleaning time rounds it out. We don’t have 10 guys in the shop so we still have dry time and scuff time. I agree that AAA is a superior system in general but I don’t think at our production level it’s that advantageous.

@@TodaysCraftsmen The clean up dosen't take the long at all. The only drawback is we go through lacquer thinner like it's water but if you're spraying water base, no brainer. I like how organized your paint area is! Nice

So have you completely ditched the PPS for the HVLP?
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 3 месяца назад
Nope! Still use the PPS as well. Typically PPS for primer and spray stain, but then also sometimes for small runs just for the convenience.

Curious if you ever spray pre-cat lacquer anymore... I've been trying to switch to a water based lacquer but I don't feel like its the same. I'm kinda looking for a nice paint (white dove) that I can use with my HVLP going forward. I don't think I'm going to stick with the water based lacquer. maybe time to try the water based poly you used here :)

I (Jeff) don’t have any experience with lacquers but I know Jon likes them. We’ll be doing a HUGE kitchen very shortly in dove white using the Enduro Pro Series.

I have an Earlex Sprayport HVLP, but they don't offer a top feed or touchup gun. Do you know if all HVLP connections the same?

Have you thined the paint or added anything to it and what size of tip are you using in your gun.
@TodaysCraftsmen
@TodaysCraftsmen 5 месяцев назад
That was straight out of the can. Sometimes I’ll thin it about 10% with distilled water. That was a 1.0 needle and nozzle in the video!
