My friends, tonight we’re gonna take a look at how to make a square-tile pattern Zimmerit on German tanks. Making your own Zimmerit is a great way to customize your model and although it might take a few hours, it's a very satisfying process!

Looks good. One thing I’ve observed with the MAN grid patterns is that they seem to comprise double lines, as a deviation in one is matched by an identical deviation in one of the adjacent lines. I had assumed that this was due to using a tool with two prongs (I use one that I made from two sewing pins spaced with some scrap styrene) but Nacho Roces has suggested that the factory used a tool like a double pizza wheel, which makes sense for the full size vehicle. Either way, a tool that makes two lines at once replicates the appearance of the original and reduces the time to apply it to a model👍

Why we love uncle Night Shift, he spends hours on areas to create meticulous detailed weld beads and steel texture, which he then covers with a full layer of Zimmerit, again detailed meticulously. Displaying his masterly skills, eye for detail and patience, he reminds us of his almost annoying modesty. It is good to be modest uncle, but don’t rub it into the faces of us mere mortals! There are very few builders on YT that equal your skills and eye for detail.
@ΝικολαςΧελιδωνης
@ΝικολαςΧελιδωνης 3 года назад
Your unpainted models are beautiful .All these photo etched details, the armour texture the weld beads and customisations make your unpainted models so eye pleasing. Plus I have an idea, the next time you build a Soviet tank maybe you should try a parade camo.It is something that is rarely seen in modeling.

Very cool, and a JagdPanther, one of the most sexy pieces of armour ever 🤩. Interesting video as well. I did square tile zimm in the past on a Panther and although I liked my result I sure gonna give your technique a try. One additional thing I did when the pattern and damage was applied is giving the zimmerit some additional texture by tapping an old tooth brush on the zimmerit. Looking forward to the build video next week!

From a sci-fi/fantasy wargaming background: both Tamiya quick type and smooth surface are really good for figure modelling and conversions. The putty just seems to go where you want it. Although it's a bit pricier than something like Kneadatite blue/yellow or Milliput, and (probably related) unusually difficult to find in the UK. Lovely work as always, though as usual, I'm wincing to see the point of a toothpick being used as a spreading tool. 😉
@brianreddeman951
@brianreddeman951 3 года назад
Hey when I sculpt minis I use a toothpick...well ok, now it is Blender and a printer. If you really want to wince, I used to smooth bits of almost cured knead it with grease from the forehead.

The stripey pattern of zimmerit in 1:72 scale can be done with a hack... get a cheap lighter with a spark roller or whatever it is called, take the roller out and get one of the sides off, you'll get the perfect little roller to do the stripey pattern consistently, and in scale too more or less. it is around 1.5 mm too. It isn't the best, but can save time when you work on the larger panels. Useful for speed builds.
