In this video I tried to stabilize wood with even simplier tools, because my old refrigerator compressor was broken. All things I used can be found at good junkyard. I also tried to dye the wood with ink, but I used too little ink.
And why to stabilize wood? The perfect thing about it is that you can use any wood (too soft, a bit rotten, etc..) and turn it into very hard high quality wood. For example in this little experiment I used Beech wood.

What would happen if you were to only stabilize it a little bit. Meaning, how would the wood behave if the epoxy has only pebetrated the outer layer? For context, I'm making spearguns and I'm looking more durable alternatives to epoxy coating low-oil woods that don't do well in water for extended periods (unlike teak, padauk...). Would this be sufficient to harden the outer surface, prevent water penetration and thus warping? I intend to buy an electric pump, but I don't want to if it won't work. Epoxy isn't cheap.

Great thing! What is a "polymeric resin"? I thought most of resins out there are polymers. What did you use? Acrylic? I am having a hard time trying to find a resin that is liquid enough, and either slow hardening or hardening by heat (as in your case) or other method that doesn' involve mixing with accelerator and catalyst.

Thanks, Derek. I know about both Cactus Juice and Minwax. Haven't used any of them, BTW, but read about both. I've somehow thought that the video was referring to commercial ones: Epoxi, Acrylic, Polyester, you name it.

If you find something commercially sourced please let me know. I have used cactus juice and it works great but it would be nice in a pinch to go to HD or Lowes and get it off the shelf if possible. If I hear of anything I'll pass it to you

Yorum üzerine uzun zaman geçmiş ama ben cevaplayayım. O parça bir çekvalf. Havanın tek yöne akış göstermesini sağlıyor. Yani pompa ile çekerken havayı dışarı atıyor fakat pompayı ittiğinizde içeri hava vermiyor.

I really like most of your content but not this one. If the wood does not stay under the surface of the resin without being held down by a weight or other device, then it is not fully stabilized. You didn't show that, but the package did float in the water for whatever reason. Also, the wood needs to stay fully submerged in the resin for roughly twice as long as it was under vacuum, even longer for some woods, walnut for example. This type of process is what gives us home stabilizers a bad rap on the forums.
