It's amazing how well Chris explains this. Most people struggle to explain what they're doing even though they do it on a daily basis as a complete novice. These videos are so helpful.
Very informative. I watched because I just built a picket fence around my front yard, and I was going to paint it white. Then the man at the store told me about staining. So now I'm trying to decide which covering to use.
Hey, love the videos but is there any way you can even out or equalize the music and regular audio with you talking? I turn the volume up to hear what you're saying then turn it way down when the music plays all of a sudden, there's a huge difference between the two. P.S. great job, amazing you can do all that in 1 day. Cheers!
I need your advice! I have brown solid stain on my house and I want to change my house color to white. What type of product would you use to go from dark soild stain to white? Oil or latex paint, stain, or some other product? Love your YTC! Ive learned so much from you. Wish I could find a guy like you in my area. It would be awesome if you made a video about color changes and what products can and cant go on top of each other. I’ve look everywhere for a video on this topic, found nothing. Thank you!
@scar I fell in love with a Benjamin Moore Arborcoat stain color. Have you used this product on brick as well as previously painted wood siding? Or would you recommend using Sherwin Williams Woodscape for previously painted wood siding?
Thank you for this video! I have a solid oil-based and haven't used it in a few years, so it is a bit thick. Can I add mineral spirits to thin it out a bit?
Beautiful work! Why use a solid color stain instead of paint? And why paint the doors instead of staining them, if you're already staining the house the same color? Thanks!
I only hope I find a company this efficient. Have used Cabot but this SW appears to be very pigmented with good coverage. Perfect brown. Hope I find it for our job, will give SW a try.
Should I paint over 20 year old siding that has been stained over its life? Is there a way to tell if I have latex or oil based stain on my before I paint it?
great prep work. great skills. great job done right. I noticed that you cover the decks with drop cloths but not the drive way concrete or the roof only with 9inch paper. I believe over spray flies every where whether is windy or not due to the sprayer pressure even if you are using a small tip or if the pressure is low when you spray. don't you get concerned about drops of paint on the concrete or the roof? most clients get concerned about this.
I stick cardboards under the lip all the way around and have never had any problems with overspray and its a hell of alot faster only masking windows and doors. Save all of your big cardboard boxes and cut em up into 12" strips stick em up under the the roof lip. Metal roofs can be a bit tricky but it mostly works. Asphalt roofs are a breeze.
Two questions: Why have you goan with SW paint vs Benjamine Moore? Second, it would be nice to hear what it costs the customer for some of your jobs if possible.
Sanding can be done depending on the condition of the building. The number of coats depends more on how dry the surface is and how much stain it accepts.
We recently bought a wooden house that has been stained by the owner multiple times over the years. It’s the type of stain where the wood grain still shows through. We want to stain it green. Can we just use any type of solid stain over the existing stain? Any preparation or things to avoid before doing this? Thanks

My house has 5 in. cedar lap siding which has been previously painted with solid color stain and then latex paint. After power washing, 85% of the cedar siding on the sunny side of the house is now bare and it seems like the cedar siding is delaminating slightly (there are cedar fibers on the back of the paint chips). Is there any product or procedure (i.e. sanding, etc.) you would recommend for cedar siding that is slightly delaminating?
I'm getting ready to stain my cedar clapboard home it had semi trans stain on it before I have power washed it already and want to go with a solid color stain the gentleman at the shermin williams store says I'll need to prime it before 2 top coats ... I was under the impression I didn't ha e to prime with stain can you help me out? Thanks in advance
Paint Life TV thank you for your response, got it half way done looks great so far it amazes me how fast you guys can paint a house... it will take me all summer lol
Hi Chris, please excuse my question, but how much did it cost the home owner to have your company stain this house and what was the sq. footage? Thank you.
I have redwood fences that i want to stain with a dark color. I used behr semi transparent stain all weather but it sucked. The stain just peeled everywhere & the wood cracked. Any recommendations?
Solid color stains just take all of the charm out of the wood, and don’t make sense for basic browns and wood colors. If you’re going for a nice old fashioned wood look, semi transparent is the way to go for sure.
Hey Chris, I really love your videos, you know your stuff. Quick question about that final coat- I noticed you said you don’t back brush on the final, no flashing from overlapping without the brush?
Woodscapes is made for vertical surfaces only!! Before Sherwin Williams bought Superdeck the correct product was Deckscapes.. Now its a Superdeck product .
Would you use the same exact method demonstrated on this video for vertical cedar siding? This is a home with peaks at about 30’. How would one person go about tackling such project? Is it best to install staging (ladder, platform and ladder) or one single Extention ladder? I’m also using S-W sWoodscapes solid. Thx...
@@Idahopainter Thanks for that very intelligent answer. I could never have thought of that myself. How then do you expect me to hear what you say with the sound down?
"we're going to stain a house in one day" ..... disregard all the other prep and clean up work before and after staining that takes 3 days .... lol .... Just ribbin ya a bit
Music is so loud I had to turn the tv down. Then you talk I can’t hear you. I turn the tv up to hear you and then my tv explodes in sound with generic music. I’m not gonna sit here turning my sound up and down I’ll find a better edited source.
I c that everyone who ask how much it cost this company doesn't respond. I wouldn't use them. Something just doesn't seem right it's like they are avoiding the question.
