Standing up in a kayak gives you some big advantages of sitting down. Those extra few feet of height let you see more fish, more bait, identify more structure, ect. All of which help you catch more fish.
But the bad news is that standing up in a kayak isn't as easy as it looks, especially if you haven't done it before (or if you have a really narrow kayak). However, with some practice combined with the right kayak, you'll be standing up and fishing from your kayak in no time.
From all of the different ways I've stood up in a kayak, I've found the easiest is to have a piece of rope (or stand assist strap that many kayaks come standard with today) to pull myself up with. The rope prevents me from putting too much pressure on either side, and it also seems to be the quietest method of getting my body upright in the kayak.
I've also found that the minimum width of your kayak should be about 30 inches wide if you plan to do a lot of stand up fishing.
