This is, by far, one the best cross stitching tutorial series I've watched. There are others out there that are good, but with those, I was continously left scratching my head because while the instructors knew what they were doing, they assumed we all knew what they were doing too and either went way to fast without showing us the basic 'how-to' techniques or they simply provided vague information while making it even more complicated. Excellent job!

You are an excellent instructor - you make everything so wonderfully clear. I bought my wife an owl x-stitch kit as part of her Christmas present and decided to look up the techniques so I can help her get started if necessary. I don't think anyone could have produced a better video - thank you so much and have a Merry Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

I just found this video today and glad I did before I attempted to do my first project. Her video is easy to understand. I would have done mine all wrong without it. I thought you should do one row at a time, not groups of colors. Now I feel a bit more confident to start my first project.

if anybody finds using embrodary hoops there are q snaps and they are generally easier to use. A q snap is a plastic square or rectangle shape that comes with 4 slats and all you do is place your stitching on the shape and then secure it with the slats. Q snaps range between £10 or £20 depending on what size you get and where you purchase them from.

Excellent videos! Are you taking the floss off the card to cut it or just cutting pieces of floss off? Doesn’t this waste some of it?

Does the "tail" of the thread just kind of hang out? I'm afraid the needle is going to come off during any random stitch.

I have been watching your tutorials and they are super and you seem so approachable I wonder if you can help me. I was given a cross stitch kit by my granddaughter so I really want to do it but I can’t get started. The problem is that the aida already has the pattern colour printed onto it and there is also a colour print on paper to follow along (but no symbols) there are also the threads on cards with symbols but there is nowhere on the aida or colour picture where I can see the exact colour of thread to use. This is a no-count cross stitch and supposed to be easier, can you help me please.

Hello! Thank you for your tutorial. I am a complete beginner, so this is all very new to me. I just had a quick question. The instructions distinguish that the cross stitch uses 2 strands and the backstitch uses 1 strand. Does 2 strands just mean folding one strand in half so it has "two" strands, as you demonstrated? The reason why I ask is that my kit says I should use a 3-strand thread, and in that case, I would not be able to just fold a single strand in half. So how would I get a 3-strand thread? Thank you for your help!

This is a great tutorial. I have a question about the floss; because of the way you are threading your needle, it looks as though your floss may actually be four instead of two. Is that correct? My crosses look very thin compared to yours. Or am I doing something wrong? Thanks

How do you find the first stitch on the chart?
@galememeeof6688
@galememeeof6688 5 лет назад
Do you always start in the middle and count everything out from there? Do you ever have to count the number of boxes out and down to know where to work a stitch? The way you've done it so far with starting in the middle and marking the boxes off as you go looks so much easier than I thought it was-having to count each box in order to know where to put each stitch. Maybe I'll be able to start cross stitching . With a small one of course. Thanks
@Simplyinstitches
@Simplyinstitches 5 лет назад
Once you have your first stitch you work outwards from there. It's best not to travel too far away from your stitches as there is more chance of mistakes. I will expain it more in thursdays Q & A video. Thank you for your question and watching.
