I want to add some finer shading on a couple of points: - Running a reselling business out of a tiny space is NOT IDEAL. This is meant to be a stopgap strategy, best suited either to making a part-time income or carrying you over until you can get more space to dedicate to reselling if you intend to go full-time. - Every part of this will have a learning curve. Especially with things like Whatnot and flipping to buy-sell-trade shops, it will take time to start realizing consistently good returns. Listing items on Ebay that have extremely high demand is the one thing that I think is relatively "plug and play." - Focusing on items with that high of demand is going to take a lot of sourcing. You may sometimes find one or two items like this per thrift trip, or none. It will take patience and discipline. - Use an inventory system that maxes out the space in the closet. I would get plastic bins that are as cubical as possible. Maybe even use stacked cardboard boxes. More advanced inventory systems like long boxes on shelves are going to cut way into your storage space.
What is your take on the new AI in the description area on eBay? I used it a couple times on books, but, overall, I hate it. I write my own detailed description with my own verbiage & and measurements, etc.
@@ThriftALifeIn my opinion, the description comes out sounding very fluff, almost pontificating. They use your title and specifics & come up with a godawful description. Pretend to list a book and see.
Recently I’ve discovered I love selling belts, typically western belts with big buckles or conchos. I can get them at a great price, and they can be rolled up into a box or stored on a hanger in the closet. They take up virtually no space. Thanks for the video, Matt. Hope you’re well.

You are the only reseller I know that uses a non-bandwagon thumb nail photo on you video (the common "Mouth open wide like you are waiting for someone to cream in it" trope. I have no idea how and why that got started but I'm sure females were involved somehow......this is one of the reason I sub and watch everything you upload and buy your Menswear guide.....Plus you get to the point in your content and not dick people along with "look what i've found today for 67 cents that I can sell for 10000000000 dolla".....Much respect Mr. Matt
The timing of this video is ironic because I just started my freshman year of college, and after one summer of reselling clothing at home (after stumbling upon a Thrift a Life video), I have had to figure out a way to keep my eBay store thriving while only using half a dorm room to live and store items. It’s working so far, but implementing some of these strategies is definitely something I am trying to do. Great video as always, and I want to thank you for your quality content, because following your business model for the last couple of months has become one of the most rewarding things in my life.
Welp, great information. I, at 53 with a 15 uear old. 2 cats am going to have to start all over. I have been looking at campers for the time being and I have a rather large inventory and no place to put it. I needed more time to refine my buying process.
Great information and timely for myself. I currently own a four-bedroom house with a one-car garage and I am looking to sell and rent a two or three-bedroom apartment. I would be using the extra bedroom(s) for storage. Downsizing from an extra three bedrooms and a garage will be a big change. I had an extra storage unit once, but would rather not do that again after the place I was at had a rat problem.

(I only typically do it with furniture and large electronics - for many years before I ever did Ebay I flipped furniture locally, which worked because I had a workspace for restoration and refinishing and tools, and was living in the largest city west of the Mississippi with lots of spendy cats hungry for that MCM bling. The trick was sourcing yard sales in the Valley, restoring/repairing, and selling to Silverlake/Los Feliz. Man I made some insane money)
