Hey Samantha, nice video! The RAS concept really resonated with me. I'm trying to transition into having photography be more of a business than a hobby and I really like the idea of having a mindset that says "I am a photographer." Your explanation of how the brain works really hit home. Thanks!
hey Ben! thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. I am so happy to hear this resonated with you... The truth is... you are a photographer indeed, and the sooner you allow yourself to overcome that importer syndrome, the sooner it will all start to click
Hi Samantha! I love photography and during Covid, I binged so much content on the subject and taught myself a fair amount, including editing. I went on to buy all my gear basically all at once and I'm at a point where I know the fundamentals and I've applied much of it but I want to grow to be dangerous with knowledge. Open to helping? (I use the Sony A7IV and most GM lens with a sprinkle of Sigma and Tamron)
Hi Michael! I offer online coaching programs and one on one coaching. Feel free to head over to my website (education.samantakatz.com) and we can chat!
Fantastic video. After a couple years of taking pictures for myself, I experienced the same kind of "Hey, would you take pictures of this" kind of gigs. One went from couples portraits, to covering a music event to shooting their wedding at the end of the month. I quit my job and have jumped into it, but I'm still hitting a lot of those pitfalls, especially undervaluing my work. I'd be lying if I said I wasnt just a little nervous for my first wedding. I guess I'm worried about the next step. Like, how do I make it official? Lol. I was thinking of calling dealerships to see if they'd let me shoot some cars. They get updated, high quality images, I get some experience in another area of photography, images for my portfolio and some word of mouth. Is this still where I should be? Am I being too broad? Should I still be offering these kinds of things for exposure?
Hi John! Thank you for your message! Don’t feel discouraged, it is quite normal to be always wondering about the next steps. Sometimes all it takes it a little support and a game-plan, but I think you are going on the right direction… but maybe a little too broad, yes. I offer online coaching and support for photographers, if you are interested to get some help check out my website: education.samantakatz.com
Hi Rihanne! I have an online program to support photographers with their business plan and execution! You can find more about it here: education.samantakatz.com/photographer-business-framework
Very good valid points. I'm doing photography with my 18 year old daughter. I'm still learning but I'm doing good as of Facebook comments. So far, it's a hobby for me and my daughter but I just wonder if I can do it as a side hustle. Not going to lie you kinda scared me off. hahaha. I know that it's not your intention but yeah. Thanks though and great tips and advice.
Of course you can do it as a side hustle.... Why did I scare you off? just remember, fear is a sign that we are doing something worth it, if it scares you it means you care, and if you care, you have to try!!
@samantha, I am very interested in your experience in helping others in their transformation from hobbiest to professional. I've been an avid photographer for 20 years, and finally decided it's time to pursue being a professional. I'd love to talk to you. Thanks in advance.
I have a camera and as much as i watch videos and practice it seems my pictures are always bad. Especially getting the blurry background. Help please ❤
@Samantakatz hi, it's funny you say that. Because I had to learn languages and it takes time. Have you learned new languages? Also, do you have any videos where you teach techniques for beginners, you know stuff that you wish someone had told you when you were learning?
@@natureandrandomstuff it does take time! Spanish is my first language actually, I learned English when I moved to canada at age 16… then I learned Italian in Uni and currently trying to grasp a little Indonesian! I have a playlist with all beginner videos in my channel, and I’m release a full beginner program soon! Make sure to get on my email list to be first to know 🙏
@Samantakatz wow.. Spanish is also my main language, then I learned English, and I'm currently learning Italian. Once I have enough Italian, I will get started on French. We have similar lives. May I ask where you move from. I am Mexican. I will for sure check out your videos. I love photography, languages, and a lot of things that most people don't.
I’ve been in business for 15 years, and I can tell you looks have nothing to do with my success (in fact when I was younger, I had to work harder to be taken seriously by many men like you). On the other hand, being kind to others will get you a long way, you might wanna try it.
