We’ll done Tina I’ve really learnt a lot My question is how do I avoid inbreeding when I have only 1buck and 20 does if that I intend to multiply my herd and not sell any for the next 2years?
Let's assume your buck served your 20 females for the very first time in Jan 2024, they gave birth btn June & July. They got served again September 2024, they will give birth the 2nd time in March 2025. The trick is on the first borns of the buck. We don't want it to serve it's daughters. So if you remember, they were born in June, btn there 6th to 9th month they can go on heat. So then your buck must leave the herd. Or else you separate the kids from their mothers so that the buck serves the mother and you introduce a new buck to your nunies that have reached serving time. Jan 2025 your handsome buck must leave the herd.
