I know where you're coming from, but Orks individually take so much less time to paint than space marines because you don't have to constantly clean up any mistakes. Ork faces vs human faces are so much easier to paint impressively because their features are so exaggerated. I've been gradually building my guard, space marine and ork armies and out of those three the orks keep me sticking to them for longer. There's some minor irritation like some ork vehicles (all the buggies...) having the worst use of negative space out of any army with all those nooks and crannies you have to stab your brush into, but the mainstay vehicles like deff dreads, killa kans and battlewagons are much like SM vehicles, just large blocks and lots of flat surfaces just with a couple more cables.

GW actively discourages people from playing orks by making them less fun and less competitive every edition.

No lies detected. You can get great discounts (50%+) on Ork lots if you're patient and not super picky about what kits you end up with.

You either have zero Orks or multiple thousands of points, there is no in between.

I just made it pass this giant hill and now can look at ~100 painted Ork models for my 2K army.

This saved my butt so many times as a kid when family would get me random 40k boxes for Christmas and birthdays. Why yes, that IS an eldar grav falcon on tracks and with giant cannons and machine guns as a death wagon, thank you for noticing.

Scratch build a Stompa (there are many example out there) and run it with a mek alongside, now all its guns hit on a 4. Not meta at all but very very funny.

Mek Gunz look like they have a VERY good statline when paired with a basic mek.

Can confirm that warboss+nobz kill anything and are surprisingly durable, just had a squad kill abbadon and his termie pals in one go with waaaghhh

As an ork player I love fighting the super serious players and seeing them relax when silly things happen like a trukk gets popped and ramshackles into my own nob squad. Or when I get the classic "your shoota Boyz aren't very good shooting units" Then I can smile and you're right they're the best shooting units and pull out a comical amount of dice to roll only to maybe kill something. Sometimes I'll see people looking at my army trying to figure out what I'll field. Plot twist I'll always field what I think will be the most fun winning be damned 😂

They're fun to build, paint and play. They're relatively simple as a concept of how they play, but need some finesse to do right. Very satisfying when it works though.

You don't need loads of either of those to have a usable army. I own zero Boyz. Gretchin are one of if not the cheapest kit going, 2-3 is enough. But Orks are a relatively expensive army due to a fairly poor points to pounds/dollar/dollarydoo ratio.

The current ork range is fantastic - the boyz, burnas/lootas, stormboyz, and bikers have all largely interchangeable body parts, heads, etc. - I converted a great mob of tankbustas* and kommandos using parts from all the kits, and even incorporating them into regular boyz mobs spices things up a bit. My dream is for an ork range refresh that also does something like this, allowing us to maximize easy customization. You want to convert those stupid boyz from the combat patrol? You're grabbing a saw. *now useless without some extra tankhammers/pistols being converted

Huh, weird how suddenly that process is a fairly straightforward way to start just about any army other than knights, and perhaps Auspex includes it in all of these videos because plenty of people won't have watched the Index Space Marines video.

Honestly, you can just buy up any ork bits/boxes second hand (from older editions, blood bowl, fantasy, AoS, whatever) and with a bit of creative touch ups, they all work for an ork army if you need a lot of Boyz and you need them quick.

My opponent's face when my un named, sub 100 point character dunked on Magnus was a real treat.

in that case 2 stompas, Gaz and Meganobz (1 big mek and 2 meganobs) is 2000 points exactly :D and price is basically the same

Get some Nobz, Trukks, and Beast Snaggas (mostly the squighogs) and you're all good.

My plan is to have 1 kommando squad camping/going where needed, 1 kommando squad being aggresive, X boyz rushing the enemy with atleast 1 squigboy squad(with a warboss)also attacking with flanking, 1-2 gretchin taking the nearest objectives. 1-3 squigbuggys shooting the cute squigs from afar. Thats my idea so far. No idea if is good or not.

@@peaceanquiet4528 Also, the kit doesn't work together. In 10th the boss in mega armor can't lead the boys he is packaged with.

The points for healing aren't too great. 5+++ on the Snaggas is solid, though. Painboss is like a super Nob. Painboy is fine with some Nobz as well.

Maybe some play with a Boyz brick and a Painboy, they're pretty cheap and a 5+++ will make them pretty sticky. Painboss not so sure, that's a squad you could be putting a beastboss in. The Snagga boyz don't matter so much, they're just meat shields for the boss!

@@chetmanley1885 I don't know, they've chewed through their fair share of infantry for me. I do agree that you're better off running more beastbosses is anything. I'd rather stick a warboss or nob with banner in boyz over a painboy.

​​@@2ClutchGamersarboss is wasted on Boyz, stick him with the Nobz. Way more output and much more durable. I don't see chewing up infantry as much an issue or something you need to lean into, they just die very easily and we have enough volume on basically any unit to deal with them, but I do like having some OC2.

Killsaws and Power Stabbas aren't options for Boss Nobs any more. The only weapon the new kit lacks is a Kombi Weapon (Kombi Scorcha / Rokkit don't exist), which isn't a huge deal on a unit that can't shoot. Being locked into a bunch of shootas is a bigger concern, but they're really cool models.

Yeah, until our Codex comes out in the Spring, we are basically stuck with the Waaagh Tribe detachment (basically just Goffs, if you played 9th). It's almost a certainty though that we will get a Speed Freeks Detachment later.

Flashgitz. Badrukk. Currently, Tankbustas are one of the derpiest units in the game. Stay clear. Lootas might be OK. Presently, the Orks rules do not really support shooting, having a rather weak 1 turn "get into melee and melee" buff.

Wait until the codex probably, there might be something in there to make it work but the current detachment doesn't support it.

This is Orks we're talking about, there's no rules for anything.

I actually like both. A mix of old style and new style even seems proper Orky if you consider they're from different clans/biomes.

I'd argue that ork shooting is probably stronger now in 10th than in 9th due to all the leader bonuses and Mekaniak +1H. It just doesn't have synergy with the Waaagh detachment currently. And either way, your points about orks being less versatile is definitely true. I'm pretty happy with 10th despite it being less than ideal, but once our Codex comes out it should bring the faction back up to par (assuming James doesn't mess things up too badly).

If you think Nobz have been crippled this edition, you haven't played with them. Ghaz is still a unit, the Meganobz actually make him way tougher. Klan rules were mostly not good and only goffs really worked. Shooting was only good in weird skew lists. Now only having 'goffs' is something that'll change with the codex but it's the same problem everyone has.

@@chetmanley1885 I haven't, because this edition is shit and has gutted all choices and small details. 9th was better, 9th continues to be better because GW didn't sack all their playtesters. Anyhow, if nobz are so great go and destroy a T10 vehicle with them. Or better yet, try to destroy it with killsaw meganobz and their pathetic 2 attacks per model. The mediocrity pie's aftertaste is gonna catch up with you real fast. Uh-huh... too bad you can't run more than two megas and ghaz in a battlewagon. Ooh, ork footslogging movement speed and any precision weapons. And he's dead T1, whoops. Effectiveness doesn't matter, I don't play tournament-level games and most others don't either, so don't rip away my choices even if they're fluffy as hell. Besides, deathskulls still benefited ork shooting, Evil Sunz could launch units up the board for objective pressure right now, Freeboota speedwaaaghs were great but now speedwaaaghs don't even fucking exist. Nothing for ork shooting aside the battlewagon + mek + flash gitz thing, and I guess killa kanz if they don't shoot their own allies because ork wackyness means they must damage themselves in some dumbass way. If they don't have basic regimental rules for 10th, then the edition is not officially finished and shouldn't have been released. Simple as. No I don't see why just space marine chapters, hell not even all space marine chapters, should get their own regimental rules while everyone else is told to suck a lemon.

@@MissionsForRiser It's not better in terms of variety imo. Speedwaaagh is dead and buried, freebootas + deathskulls shooting is gone because freebootas are gone, some units like the scrapjet and the deffkoptas lost 1BS on vehicles for the former or volume of shots for the latter. We have three shooting units and one of which is a combo in a battlewagon which will be focused down T1 without that 5++ kustom job. Which wouldn't be so bad if running a barebones cost-effective battlewagon was possible but you'd be a fool not to run all the useless guns on it since you're already charged the points costs (free wargear is a lie, if it were free the points cost would be closer to a 9th ed barebones battlewagon). And yeah, the whole regimental rules just not being there makes this feel like an extremely unfinished and rushed out edition. I don't understand why people are happy about this edition when it's a massive strategic downgrade. Nobody should be eating this mediocrity pie when there's a whole better clearly complete clearly better balanced edition to enjoy.

Haha, those are two of the most efficient units for Orks right now. You could definitely build a good list around having 3 of each of that pair.

Gretchin are by far the most important unit Orks have right now. Flash Gitz are definitely not bad when it comes to Orky shooting. In a Trukk with a Mek boost they hit on 4+. Also people forget this, but they're actually great in melee: 4 attacks with a S5 Choppa and even better in the WAAAGH! turn.
