What makes it when you engage the mower deck and the belt makes a short loud squeal for a very short time? Noticed that one didnt do that when you engaged the blades.
When you engage a mower deck from a stand still to the engine speed which can be up to 3600 rpms and if the belt has a shine to it from wearing. You can get a squeal. The belt is slipping just a little on a metal pulley, hence the squeal. This is why I try and engage the mower deck at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle then after the blades are engaged take it up to full speed. You can also have this issue if your mower deck is clogged not allowing the blade to start properly when you engage the PTO.
I have this mower (circa 2008). The Hydros which are located at the left and right wheel are actual Parker wheel motors, and are e dang near bullet proof. Unlike the transaxles which are so common today. JD eventually went with the transaxles in the Z series mowers a few years later. The Parkers are much better\stronger and cheaper to replace ebuild.
