My strongest advice to noobs is *do not let it get out of hand* as it is very addictive. I have over 6K now and it is a serious problem for me in all sorts of life-destroying ways. Too much of a good thing. Trying to thin the herd but trouble is I like them all!

Yeah, same here but I only have about 4,000. I got some nice display boxes from a record shop but they’re full. Space is at a premium now but, perhaps luckily, so is money. So I’m not buying atm. Like you say though, they’re all records I like.

Still using my 1980s separates. Vintage bit of kit. Never let me down yet & I spin vinyl every day, sometimes all day long. Love it. Good video man. 🫶

I started collecting about 15 years ago after CDs, and I wish I had bought my favourites on vinyl . So many of my late teens to early twenties favourites on CD are ridiculously priced now on vinyl. I hate the prices now, but I recommend buying 1 or 2 things you really like rather than 3 or 4 things you are interested in. My wishlist is full of things I would love to own, and my collection is full of things I can afford! So I'm only buying really special ones now

I came from CDs (still collect them just more focused on vinyls). I was lucky as my parents had a huge sony stereo in the attic which had a 5 disc cd player, 2 cassette decks and a record player. So I didn’t need to spend money on one just had to buy records. I did eventually change the needle as it hadn’t been changed for about 15 years as it was sat in storage. Though wasn’t an expensive change.

I will admit I reordered the collection from alphabetical to 'by label' to help kill time when that ultra-competent government put me and everyone else on house arrest a couple years ago.

Nice summary, and great tip on that AT LP60 turntable. If you can get to North London then go to Audio Gold foior turntable, amp & speakers I say. You went to Flashback and Hornsey records recently, Audio Gold is nearby at the foot of Muswell Hill. I'm in the middle of a 2nd return to vinyl, and it's all about audiophile vinyl for me now, rather than rarities, or perfect sleeve condition. Love the One Steps and 45rpms. My tip for new collectors would be: UK,US,German or Japanese presses only!

Do not buy records before buying turntable if you plan to play them. It sucks to own LPs amd then later realising half of it is off center which only is visible on a turn table.
