I’m 76 years old and I’ve been journaling since I was 10. I love words and using them to express myself daily. I’ve been through my daughter’s cancer and death, my own battle with cancer , and all the joys life has brought me. My journal has been my best friend and allows me to express without judgement. All my journals are labeled, and tied up and boxed in order to leave for my 3 children. I hope everyone will journal as the joys of pen to paper is beautiful. Have fun everyone… it’s wonderful.
broo this video is literally the one for MEE. like i see all these other ppl only using journal for a specific purpose, but you talked about really clearing up doubts and said that journaling can be used for multiple purposes and that consistency means different things to people. to me, i thought consistency meant DAILY. thank you so much for just giving me a different perspective about journaling. may god bless you
I always pressure myself to fill a whole page when I journal too and I know I just need to let myself write whatever wants to come out that day. Thanks for the reminder ✍🏻
I started writing June 6th of 2024 and I have two 100 paged notebooks I’m trying to fill up, and I just got onto page 49. I started off with doing one pages for a couple days than 2 pages than back to filling at-least to one page because I kinda fell behind but I wrote down things I did a certain day so I can remember and write down what I did that very day.
when you pointed out that journaling didn't have to be like an essay/that was the reason why you didn't enjoy it, it opened my eyes so much on why i couldn't stay consistent. i think it's time to restart.
Yup, I used to struggle finding stuff to write about. I felt like it had to be something super deep. Nah. That put too much pressure on me trying to be so enlightened. I decided journaling should just be whatever I want/need it to be on any particular day. I do throwback pages where I draw and color 90’s tv show characters that made me happy, and I write about my favorite character and episodes. I also write about my plants, what they scientific names are, where they originate from, and care tips. I may write about my dogs, something cute they did, and changes in their routine. Maybe I write about something I saw on the news and my thoughts on it. I don’t stress anymore about what to add to my diary because I just add whatever is making me happy or sad, however “small, silly, not-good-enough thought” I may have, it’s mine and if I want to document it I will.
I’ve been struggling with building a relationship with journaling as a new hobby I wanted to get into for 2022, so this video is literally EXACTLY what I’ve been needing. Thanks so much for this Jenn! I’ve always been such a big fan of you ❤️
I'm so good at starting journaling and so bad at keeping it because of these very assumptions haha Thanks so much for reminding me that being goal focused is helpful and allowing myself to dictate what goes in my journal is better than letting other people's ideas tell me how to journal. ❤
I migrated into journaling (after basically refusing to as a kid) by starting a notebook of thoughts & ideas that eventually included emotions & memories/events. What really pushed me into doing it regularly is when I got into fountain pens and was looking for an excuse to use them more. At the beginning of the year I started a 5year journal in addition to my regular since I don't use it everyday. I have done a pretty good job of keeping the 5year up though some days there just isn't anything to write & sometimes I have to backdate entries
yay a journaling related video!! these are all really great, practical tips. i had the same revelation a few years ago about having to redefine what journaling in order to make it an enjoyable hobby again - not forcing myself to write if i didn’t want to, diversifying my spreads, etc. i also relate very hard to the struggle of trying to vent on paper when your thoughts are moving 10x faster than your hand LOL. if you’re comfortable with the idea, i’d love to see a video on how you create different types of journal spreads!!
ahhhh, this makes me so happy! thanks jenn! i'm always thinking that i HAVE TO type/write in my journal daily!!! i have Hella notebooks that have half of my daily journalings and then half of blank spaces, then end up forgetting about my stashed journal and start with a new one!!! thanks for posting your experience and advices!
I just finished watching your video and everything you said and thought about journaling is exactly me!!! I so needed to see this! I have always wanted to journal but have put to much pressure on myself. I wanted to journal daily when my children were little so I could remember all of the fun and little things throughout the days and I never did. I so regret that!!! They are now 12 and 14 and I am going to start today! 😊
I like the idea of the title spread. I journal long form but would like to add art to my journals. It took me awhile to journal because my mother thought journaling was selfish. I started venting in my forties. By the time I got to my fifties, I moved beyond venting.
I started a dream journal, and it was good for awhile until you had to remember to write right away before you forget about it. Going to think through your tips and see which fits best! Thanks
The funny thing is I wanted to do a friendship journal with my best friend and was researching which one to buy.. I settle for one on Notebook Therapy too! I love your tips you give to start journaling, keep it up Jenn!!
love the big sister vibes & you're so cute!🥰 i never really had the handles for journaling but have always wanted to start journaling! thank you for this Jenn✨
You can start by writing about your day. I started to only write when something happened in my day. When I wrote daily, I quickly became bored of writing about work and the same daily activities. So, I now wait until something changes in my day. You write what happened and if you want to throw in emotions, then describe how the event made you feel or why you felt the need to write about that specific thing in the first place. I would rather look back at entries that I was engaged in writing about even if my entries are weeks apart, rather than forcing myself to write about the same thing daily. Best of luck! 🖋️
I feel like sometimes people overthink journaling or diaries and making it aesthetic the only things you need is a book or just paper and a pen set it out how you want you don’t need to make it look pretty or perfect just write! Whatever comes to mind even if it makes no sense do it how you want because it works differently for everyone you can do doodles to express stuff you don’t need to write on the lines you could do it however you want there’s no rush focus on making yourself feel better and relieve stress that’s what it’s for right ? No one is going to read it after all sorry for the rant lol 😂
