I hope you don't mind me adding. Make sure the plastic container you use to mix your lye water solution has the number 2 or 5 on the bottom in the triangle because not all plastic is compatible with lye. Also make sure it can handle high temperatures because the lye water solution will get really hot, especially with a water discount. Don't mix your lye water solution in a glass container as it will deteriorate over time becoming potentially dangerous. And lastly, your fragrance oil should not be put into a plastic container or vessel as it will eat away at it. Safety first! Love the soap by the way. I think it would be interesting to learn how you create your fragrance blends. A lot of people are afraid to get adventurous about their fragrances in case it doesn't turn out great. Love your videos.

Truth. I found out the hard way with the essential oils and plastics though.

Hello, my question is off the topic. Did you by any chance patented your products? If so, what would be the process? Or does aesthetic products are not Patentable. Merci

I agree but, she didn't make us aware of what we should look out for like over stick blending, ricing and how to cover the soap to develop over the 24 hour period. There were many things left out. This also is not beginner friendly. I do appreciate her making us aware of soapcalc

@distressingdiva i let mine sit for 4 week's. But i use a water discount. I also do not put mine in the oven or cover or wrap. Again because i water discount.

I am grateful for all the knowledge you share, and your on-screen presence is honest, lovely and direct. I just wish that you, as well as other soapers would stop recommending buying products from Amazon, they are destroying small businesses by taking business from these independant guys and feeding an American Millionaire. I have personally felt their monetary effect the last 5-6 years. Being a small business owner myself, I like to support small and local businesses as much as I can including Fizz Fairy, New Directions, Canwax, Voyageur and a slew of others. We need to direct business to these little guys and feed them and their families. Keep up the great work! Your bath bomb journey has been fun and knowledgeable to watch!

I'll add another tip here. I use these little silicone molds for small batches. If you are having problems getting your soap out, you can add a little sodium lactate to your lye water once it has cooled down. 1 tsp PPO. Or you can pop your soap into the freezer for a bit and it will harden up and pop out easier. You might also want to adjust the hard oils in your recipe if they keep sticking in the molds. HTH.

It could be because I’m PMSing but I’m literally emotionally grateful for the calm this video provided as I’m pursuing my journey as a soap creator... yesterday I was following a soap calc recipe and I had a question on one of the recipe that literally had me in tears because every person I asked on RU-vid didn’t answer me (understandable to a certain degree), as an influencer and artist, I do my best to answer everyone here on RU-vid and my IG... But I watched your video and I’m like “you can do this Maggie” and you answered my question after watching like 15 videos trying to get an answer! Thank you for sharing this!!! Wishing you much abundance and success in your prosperous journey!!!! 💕💕💕💕

Haha, yep sound like you may have been .. but! I know exactly how you feel. It’s so frustrating when your starting out and have nobody to ask questions. I learnt everything myself the hard way. If ever you want to ask a specific question about soap making (I’m not an expert but have been making cold process for a few years). - feel free to ask me. I’m happy to give you my IG or something so you can message if you like. Anyway, all good, glad you found the answer and sorry nobody answered you on the other channel - that’s really shit!

A good tip about making lye is use ice. Freeze ur distilled water and pour the lye a little at a time and mix in. U won’t get any fumes.

I will never have a soap business, not my purpose, but understanding the science and calculations has been difficult. I don't get the ring and neither the ash. I don't know why and still don't understand that part. I put a cover over and wrap in towels. I also can tell you are a really good person who is sharing so much! So thank you! I am so grateful!!!!

Jerkins💓💓 I absolutely Love watching you make soap!! I’ve never made ANY soap before..but You’ve Inspired me to start!! However!.. I Do Not “get” (or understand) the Soap Calculator!! Can you get the same desired results from M & P?? I want to make the soap you just made!! It looks Great!.. Plus..I bet it smells good!! If you don’t have a basement to let it dry overnight in.. where should it be placed? You mentioned the oven?? Does the humidity effect the soap?? It’s going to be 90* here today in the South N.E.!!! Thank you (&Hubby) So Much for Your kindness & generosity in Sharing your knowledge with All of us!! You guys are such a Blessing!!..& are making OurLives much Happier!!⭕️❌😘🙌

Jerika you commented on how u have so much trouble w ur soap either breaking or getting damaged as ur trying to pop it out of ur soap mold, well Im right there w you until one day i was struggling w a batch and it didnt break but it have those little smoosh marks from me pushing to get the soap out and laying right in front of me way my baking paper i used to line the wooden molds until i made foam pces for the wooden molds, so the next time i made soap i cut a pce of my baking paper to the length of my mold and made sure i had enough to come up where i could grab it i loosened the ends and grabbed the paper w one hand and held the mold down w the other and it literally came out easy breezy so ive done it that way ever since cuz u can get this stuff at the Dollat Tree for $1.25 now since they had to boost the price up $.25 but I make sure I have it in stock at my house 24/7 becuz it prevents ur food from scorching u name it this stuff helps. Anyway thought Id offer u this little trick i learned since ur generous enough to teach us so many things to help us on our journery. Thank You so much for ur kindness, From one soapy friend to another. Sandra

This was awesome!! I just love all your videos!! ♥️ I binge and repeat watch them all the time from here in South Africa. Would love it if you can do a similar video on how to formulate a bath bomb recipe on smaller scale, ex. To make 8-10 bombs. That would be great to use when trying new fragrances and essential oil combinations and colours to not have to make a too big batch for experimentation. Oh, and what would also be amazing is a video on essential oils combinations that make great fragrances in bath bombs. In SA we don’t have a big selection of fragrance oils so need to mostly use essential oils and I’m not always sure what different oils in which ratio makes for good scents in bath bombs 😃😬

What many soapers on RU-vid omit from their tutorials is adding sodium lactate or salt to the batter to help to solidify and unmold the soap which, by the way it unmolded, I can see you've added. I don't understand why it's 'rarely' mentioned! I know I had such a hard time with my first soap because that tidbit was missing! Kind of important don't you think?
@storybooksoapothecary1310
@storybooksoapothecary1310 3 года назад
20 year soap maker here. Sodium lactate or salt are not necessary if your formula has enough hard oils in it. I rarely use SL because my recipe is hard within about 12 to 18 hours. However, if you have a softer recipe, you can add SL at 1 tsp PPO to help hard your soap so it can be unmolded easier. I prefer to formulate my soaps so I don't need additives to harden them up. You can try upping or adding your hard oils a bit and see if that makes a difference. I just like to keep my soaps as simple as possible. If you need help with a formulation, let me know and I will try to help you. HTH.

Which butters depends on what qualities you want in your soap, I personally use cocoa butter and shea butter but you can use mango butter, kokum butter, etc. Every oil or butter you use brings certain properties to the soap, so you might have to experiment a bit and research oil properties a lot! Have fun!

I have been using this video in particular as my bible to understand Soap Calc! Thanks so much for your help. I still struggle with the initial calculations as I use 5% superfat and the total that holds the container by that percentage leaves my container no completely full. Maybe because I use 1.8:1 water lye? I must be missing something. But I'll keep trying! Thanks a million again, I am loving so much your videos :)

Thanks so much for this video!! I've watched so many other soapmaking for beginners videos and none have gone into depth on some aspects as you have. Still trying to process how this is for beginners because that whole calculator is very intimidating. Maybe because I'm still using recipes I find online and in books already.

I love you use less coconut oil which dries out your skin but is needed to harden your soap
