Always great content! We have 4 out of 5 pretty solid I think. Working on that 5th component now. Always appreciate the balance between new venture start-up and growth focus.

Well you know Robert. If you start your own business for it to be a business you can not work for it. Working for it makes you an employee and completely cancels out all your licensing. This could be advantageous. The business gets a fine frop compo.. your just an employee not a business owner you don't have to pay it. Someone gets hurt on job... hey your just an employee not your problem. Payroll and taxes. Don't even worry about it. So what you should do is get a huge loan. Hire a manager an accountant a secretary 3 salesmen some vans and wrap them. Enough tools for 4 crews. Etc and go bankrupt in a month but at least you had a business not a job

I’ve watched several videos and really appreciate the time and energy you put into each! I’m wanting to get a roofing business started and am trying to educate myself as much as possible. I have years of experience in actual roofing and construction but not so much in business. How do I start from nothing and zero employees/leads? I have licensing, insurance and at least one to two good sub crews. Thanks again for the content, keep up the good work!

There’s a local roofing company that is selling/ closing up. He had a accident happen and has decided to just close. 13+ years in business and wants me to take it over. Obviously I need an attorney but I also own a reputable local business (15yrs) so my question is should I just add onto my business and start roofing or buy his and make it much larger. He does 1.8 million but that’s with just 1 crew and there are sub crews around here so I can add on and get more done. What do you think?

D. We love you but it's not true to say if you work for your business it's not a business. If you have staff and payroll a license and insurance and compo and your own jobs not subbing you have a business. The other thing I don't agree with is that the only reason to have a business is to give it to your kids or sell it. You can simply have one because it earns you more money than being an employee for someone else. It doesn't mean your only gonna do it for a couple years. If it's only you yes you just have a job but if your running a business as in employees warranty contracts. Benefits etc. Even if it's small and it stays that way and when your done you simply do your last job and shut the doors. It's still a business
@RoofingInsights3.0
@RoofingInsights3.0 4 года назад
It is a business on paper. In reality it is full time job. You can work for your business but if business relies on you and it’s not a sellable operation it’s a job. Many industries have this problem. Look at restaurants. You can build Chipotle’s and Starbucks, or you can always be the one in kitchen cooking for people and wear 5 hats. First scenario is a business, second is full time job. I agree with you that this job pays better than working for someone but it is a job not a business. If you own a truck and you are the only driver, sorry, I will never call it a business. You are self employed, yes, but you don’t have a business.
@joannjeanette8171
@joannjeanette8171 4 года назад
Ya I agree if you do not have a staff then you are self employed. Do you not work for your business??

@@RoofingInsights3.0 by definition you are wrong. I know your maybe still learning English but that doesn't mean you get to change what is meant by the language. Or what you want definitions to be to suit your mindset and your ideas. Definition: A business owner is the legal proprietor of a business. An individual or group that owns the assets of a firm and profits from them. What Does Business Owner Mean? The owner can be the same person who directs the business and controls its day-to-day processes or he can choose to have a Manager for that purpose, or even name a Board of Directors to do it. The corporate governance applied in a particular firm largely depends on its size and operational complexity. In spite of the company’s size, the owner has the ultimate control on its company and therefore decides whether to delegate or not certain key executive functions on qualified professionals. The business owner can earn a monthly wage but he is not an employee. In contrast, any other person working at the company is an employee no matter his hierarchy within the organizational structure. In addition, the business owner has the right to take the net profit obtained at the end of every fiscal year or reinvest it in the company.

You are right. Every truck driver in this country is business owner. But he loses business when he gets sick. He is the owner of vulnerable business: his body defines it. I have business even when I am sick, travel or not feeling it. Business in my humble opinion should be independent unit in operation without owner.. it cannot be the same.
@joannjeanette8171
@joannjeanette8171 4 года назад
@@RoofingInsights3.0 I did agree the truck driver type scenario makes me move to your side a bit. I've said it a few times now if you have staff that work full time. You have clients. It's a business. Clients is important as well.cause if your just subbing it's not really a business. With the truck drivers as well they are really just sub contractors. Basic the are employees that have to pay there own taxes

Hey roofing insights. My name is Michael cimino, and I just ended my seven year service with the military (Air Force) to go franchise a roofing business instead of doing my own. I am currently interning in Utah with FBC roofing to get some expertise for what I am about to do. I am thinking about either doing the business either in Florida or Delaware. I heard because of Litigation laws I should steer clear away from Florida. I just scoped out Delaware by driving there (from maryland), wasn't a desirable place to live. Is the litigation laws really that difficult to deal with to make sales in FL? Is FL not a place for a new roofing company to start? Thank you

Kyle T. Smith where did you check reviews? JobNimbus is #1 roofing CRM on the market. More switched to it than from it (contractors always moving between). $25 per user Free integrations with QuickBooks and other apps Easy to use Is it perfect? Probably not, best CRM is the one you build for your business but that will cost you $100k plus. We use it in our roofing biz: 5 people run $5m operation per year and we know $25m dollar companies who switched to it from other CRMs. It’s affordable, does everything you need, easy to automate.
