@@Zisst sql server 2022 i am using, when i try to start the sql server agent, is says it cannot start on local computer.

Hi, Are you getting error?, Can you tell me a bit more ? if agent is disabled then you need to enable it first , Let me know what's the issue, thanks

@@Zisst the mssql server agent is enabled . When I try to start in services it says "the SQL server agent ( MSSQLSERVER)started and stopped immediately. Some service stop immediately if they are not in use by any other service or programs." I even tried to edit the log on properties by logging in via local system. Yet it does not start . On seeing the logfile.i saw the SQLAGENT.OUT log file and it says" SQLSERVER error 229: the execute permission is denied in the object 'sp_sqlagent_update_xps' database 'msdb' schema 'dba'[SQLSTATE 42000](DisabelAgentXPs)"

Hi Gautham, Did you check the permissions of agent account ? the local or domain account needs to part of of sysadmin role

@@Zisst how do i check that . I guess mostly probably i do have the permission

Go under the SSMS and expand Security on left side, next click on a login you are using (highlight it) check its properties and look for Role , if the account is not sysadmin then mark the account as Sysadmin (add check mark ) you can also try to grant MSDB as owner of the account but sysadmin has all permissions What version of SQL server you are using ? Use developer version on your lab server not express version
