ignition set on for startup not auto. it works, but thats how its done in the real plane :)

Yes you are correct. To be clear Auto does work but its not the standard procedure. Auto can cause the ignition to cut out if you added throttle during startup which would cause a failed start, this is why manual is reccomended. :-)
