My sister had a 2001 Alero and had problems starting it also. She would turn the key and it wouldn't do anything, so she had to sit there and try several times to start it. The whole car was a piece of sh@t, it was falling apart, little by little.
sound like the car lot forgot to remove there gps box . i have a car right now that am still making payments on it makes that same beep beep sound to let me know my car still on if i dnt make the payment they turn the car off at the lot and it wont start
This one isn't having problems though, it just has this weird security system where you have to wait for those 2 quick beeps after turning the key to "ON" before starting it
I have the same issue with my 2003 Alero. The reason why you have to wait for the 2 quick beeps is related to the fuel pump. The 2 beeps gives time for the fuel pump to kick in especially when there's a gas back flow. If the 2 beep thing doesn't work, press on the gas pedal hard until it starts.
Well many cars these days do have an ignition disable which prevents you from starting the car unless you have the right key which has a chip inside that the ignition needs to recognize. This is able to prevent starting by hot-wiring. I have looked in the owners manual maybe a few times, but never found anything like this. The car has had this ever since my grandparents bought it in 2003, so idk how this car got to have this such thing
welcome to alero (bizzarro?) world, of passlocks, passkeys, security lights, etc. causing people to go nuts just starting the car .... hadn't seen this particular "2-chimes" issue yet. yor lucky, at least it does end up starting! ;-/
I have a 2001 Alero I'm having problems with the check engine light staying on after they reset it it comes on after a hundred miles won't pass inspection because of two sensors does anyone know about this ordeal
This is a known issue. Mine did the same thing but its a 2002. I spent close to $1000 fixing things within the car and come to find out the fix only cost me $20 and I did it myself. Failed Passlock Sensor, check that out and good luck.
+Measehven Ebi This isn't an issue though, it's been decided that this car has a strange aftermarket security system, where you have to start the car the way I demonstrated
No, this is an aftermarket security system that was added at some point, and you have to wait for those two beeps to start it. And apparently, we found out that this security system turns the fuel pump on and off
We have a '99 Malibu which is pretty much the same thing. Just stick the key in and start. With the beep after you turn it off, wonder if its a ignition interlock anti-theft thing? No one would want to steel the Malibu (haha) so it doesnt have any theft prevention. But this is a nicer car. Does the owners manual say anything about it? Never heard of this before. Aftermarket or dealer add on when bought?
