Another thing I found that helps you keep going is to have something fun outside of code to do regularly. For me, I love playing video games and reading so I make sure to carve out a few hours every day to play some video games. This helps when I'm spending 5 hours a day practicing code if I know I have some casual fun waiting for me that day. It's a great way to destress at the end of a long day too. I also find it great to set a minimum amount of time in a more flexible way. For me, I say that I will spend at least 1 hour a day practicing code. If I do more than that, great! But if all I can do is that minimum, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. Besides that, I keep a record of how many days I've been practicing for. I find it incredibly inspiring to be able to go look at this record and see that I've been consistently practicing for x months. It just lifts my spirits to see I have indeed been consistent at learning to code. One thing I've learned to not do is try to cut out other hobbies in favor of learning to code. I did that once and it led to me getting so burnt out I had to take a 2 month break from code in order to get my enthusiasm for it back.

So true! I tried to cut out art for code but ended up feeling unmotivated for both. Ive decided to keep doing what I do (ive already had a consistent schedule of drawing every day for an hour so it comes easier) and start with 20 minutes of code a day. Maybe i can slowly work my way up

I don't know how the RU-vid algorithm in its infinite wisdom knew I needed this video right now, but I really did. I'm an actor learning website design so I can have a flexible, non-table waiting job and have felt like I'm hitting a wall as I get into more complex backend topics like Authorization, Authentication, and stuff like that. Your optimistic, patient, and funny approach was a breath of fresh air and I have nothing else to say but thank you. I'm actually excited to get back to learning now.

Im only about 1 month in to learning to code and literally as you said in the video im signed up to freecodecamp and following a udemy course. But I’ve got to a point where in trying to figure something out for myself without just copying what the guy on screen is doing and struggling a bit which is demotivating like heck! But good advice in this video, keep my end goal in mind and just stick at it, no doubt it’ll click eventually. Repetition is key so doing a little bit every day is better than cramming loads in and then burning out and doing nothing for weeks. Good luck to everyone else out there who’s in the same boat as me :)

@@TheCoderCoder Thanks, i just watched your other video explaining how you managed to get to where you were even without a CS degree and it was very inspirational. The last one was really helpful..... I always knew somewhere that I get demotivated by seeing some people going ahead of me....I used to worry what if I'm left behind by all hypothetically. To some extent this also adds fuel because of healthy competition; but if you think about it too much you end up doing nothing in the belief that you're not capable. We should enjoy this exploring and learning; not just run with an intention of completing what others did. Thanks a lot sister
