How To Stay Warm When The Power Goes Out No Electricity Winter Storm Sleeping Bag Sub Zero Sleeping Bag amzn.to/3fn3L2V Have you had power outages this long, cold winter? Keep Warm in your bed with a sleeping Bag. Put on your base layer of long underwear, grab a flashlight, read, relax, and enjoy the down time of a power outage or load shedding. Keep flashlights near your bed. Snuggle with a pet, or family member. The power will be back on before you know it! Store your sleeping bag “uncompressed” so the insulation doesn’t get crushed and lose its ability to loft back out when you want to sleep in it. If your bag gets wet from rain, dew, frost, condensation, or your own perspiration, make sure you dry it out. Hang your sleeping bag up by the loops on the foot of the bag in a dry place out of direct sunlight. Never step on your bag with shoes on.

put in a wood stove, it heats your home ,dries your clothes on a drying rack , cooks your food and heats your kettle for a nice hot cup of whatever, all without hydro. i also installed an indoor hand pump as my well was close enough by so i always have water for dishes and drinking. Next step was solar. So glad to be off the system with no hydro bill and i don't have to stay in bed to keep warm.

These are great tips for self sufficiency. Sadly, more and more people are opting for things like condos where none of these are offered, and many forbid barbecues.

Great idea if you actually have a place for a wood stove. Unfortunately many do not.

My husband passed away a year ago. I have tried to prepare but, I'm afraid the emotional part of being alone and having to take care of all of my needs without anyone to talk to will be very difficult. I bought lots of food that needs just a little water to make a hot meal. I have flashlights and candles. I have a battery operated emergency radio. I guess that faith may end up being my biggest prep. God bless you and thank you for all of the videos that you have made. I think you could do it alone in a heartbeat. Sincerely, Carly

I am so sorry for your loss. Yes, we are living in precarious times, and the stay at home orders, closing businesses, travel bans, have really isolated many of us. I understand your pain and loneliness. I have been able to visit with family and friends on facetime, which has helped ease my loneliness. It isn't the same. We need our hugs and in person experiences for a sense of safety, belonging and joy. We need social interactions for our health and wellness, and the shutdowns are isolating many of us. Thanks for sharing your experiences, we really can be there for each other.

This is where community is so important. Build relationships with your neighbors. Call and facetime family as much as possible. Join social media sites. I know it's not the same as in person conversations but at least you stay connected to others.

God is one we must depend on. We humans can do so much, and it's still not enough. God is with those who trust in Him. We are never alone.

One of my free tips is - if you have medium to long hair keep it down. It makes a huge difference. As soon as you tie it back you feel alot colder around your head and neck. Also works when going outside, but obviously still wear a hat 😁

Nice idea, my only concern is that in the event of a prolonged period without power the cold will hurt you.
@AlaskaGranny
@AlaskaGranny 10 лет назад
wil an You are correct, this wouldn't be the only solution for a long term power outage. Most of the time, power outages are for hours, not days or weeks. Most of us can deal with them if we use our heads and have a plan. If the power doesn't come back on soon, go to Plan B, which needs to include back up heat if you live where temperatures are extreme.

My main concern is to keep my waterpipes and waterheater from freezing.
@queline213
@queline213 Год назад
When my water pipes were frozen (didn't pay attention to the freeze warning), I found on Google that I should turn all faucets on. The reason is that when the pipes begin to thaw, water pressure builds, having all faucets turned on will prevent water pressure from backing up and causing your pipes to burst. It was successful for me. No pipes burst. Some people will wrapped their pipes to keep warm but I don't know how effective that is. Usually the water is on even when electricity is out, so just keep a continuous drip going on all main faucets in the house to prevent freezing.

Years ago we briefly had no heat. I warmed up some water on the stove not boiling just very warm. I filled 2litre soda bottles and stuck them in a pillow case. I gave one to each of our boys and husband and myself. We called them " heat buddies." We all had blankets as well but it warmed us quickly when we went to bed. Can be held in your lap under blanket during the day. If no gas heat heat water on gas grill outside. Never use grill for heat inside. Plenty of ventilarion.

You can't stay in bed all day...you still need heat for your nose...mine gets cold even when I have the heat on, if it's not on 70 or 72. Everyone should have solar panels, a generator and a battery bank, inverter, charge controller etc. The government should pay for it out of the surplus tax money they keep for themselves, instead of distributing it to those who work for minimum wage or live on social security or disability.
@AlaskaGranny
