Hi. My 10 year old girl just watching this video. She just crochet her first Barbie doll clothes yesterday. She has had an interest in knitting a sweater for some time. So hopefully in my lifetime she does complete a sweater. I love watching your videos. We live in Alaska.
I’m going to try this today! I have teo sleeves to steek and sew on the first Norwegian Setesdal style sweater I’ve made, Thank you for a thorough tutorial- fingers crossed for a good finish,
I really got a tonne of knowledge from these tutorial videos! I'm thrilled to be able to "custom fit" a garment to someone now as opposed to having to increase and decrease and then it doesn't fit my husband because he's tall. 6'4" and I have to alter all the patterns and this just works so much better! No more guessing games trying to fit and tailor.
You two create tutorials like no other. I bought yarn yesterday to try the granny square scarf. Still not sure on the joining but I'm going to try. Thank you again.
This has encouraged me to make a sweater. I now know I can knit a facing on the sleeve itself to cover the raw edges of the sleeve opening on the body of the sweater.
Im already learning and the video just started. Measuring the chest. I NEVER thought I'd need any of the information on the yarn band except the yardage. Mind blown. They figured out how many stitches and rounds of stitches his cardigan would be! Just like that! Like I said, Mind Blown
I watched your blocking video after taking a Kristen Myrmel Norwegian sweater class (she included the link with her instructions) and I saw your beautiful armhole facings...so happy you are sharing that here today...I did not realize it was machine sewn.
I'm so glad to have access to all of the tutorials you have done! I am especially happy to see this as I am fairly new to knitting! I almost screamed when you cut the fabric! and was greatly reassured when you kept calmly explained how safe it was because of the preparation you had done! Arne, you make everything seem so simple and I feel encouraged to try to make a cardigan. Thank you to you both for trying to keep everything simple. I appreciate you both, Rosa Nance
Thank you so much. I am new to steeking, and your tutorial was so very helpful. As an aside, I have about 1/2 of the Redd Barna completed. Love the pattern!!!
I'm very impressed with this cardigan! I'll have to try this technique. I have so many projects, I'm having a problem with getting them all done! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Arne & Carlos would you consider adding a tutorial about different methods of picking up stitches for different yarn weights and garments? Such as picking up on horizontal edge, vertical edge, curved edge, any topstitching methods where a strong clean line is important, and different considerations for bulky yarns? The perfect neckband continues to elude me. Thank you as always for sharing your knowledge!
It's only lately I heard the term, Steeking, and wondered what the heck,, now I know, thank you, will give it a go & I do like the procedure and making the facing on shoulder seams. Thanks
Hi guys I came across your video tutorials and have to say I was so impressed by your teaching that I have to described. I have never known how to work out the amount of stitches and rows for custom made garment but thanks to you now I know
Impressive! I loved the way to do it! I used to do decreeasing and increasing like old style, but it its easier! I will practice in my new proyect! Thanks a lot, greetings from Mexico!
wonderful video!!! thank your for your help!! i love knit sweaters that I receive from my grandmother and would like to become good and give to others!
That makes such a beautiful finish. I could not wrap my mind around cutting a swatch through knitting. But seeing how this is done makes total sense. Beautiful way to seam and not have seams on the side. And your yarn creates that pattern? I think I could do this! On to part 2.
I ended up on this video because Kate (Last Homely House) mentioned Steeking in her last video. I couldn't quite get my head around that concept so I immediately thought - Arne and Carlos must've done one on this and Voila!! I feel better now.
I’m a big fan of both of you. I’ve been knitting off and on since I was a teenager. After watching your RU-vid videos, I have been inspired to take another go at knitting a sweater for myself. Previous attempts have been epic fails for various reasons: poor fit, saggy yarn. It was discouraging to invest considerable time and materials and not have a good result. Do you have a favorite beginner pattern or set of instructions?
Wow, I have never seen a sweather worked this way. You are very brave. Love the yarn. My yarn shop carried a lot of your yarns. I am hooked. Would love to see you come to Nova Scotia😊
Love you fellows!💕💕💕would love yo come to Norway and “stay -cation” for a bit. Hugs! Arne is a kick! Carlos straight serious but sweet! Highly organized and fun!
I just discovered you late last night. I love the way you present your videos. Don't worry about inches or finding the correct word in English (American); we understand perfectly. I love the look of your yarns. I'm working on a sweater right now and will definitely try out your socks. Maybe in the future you could offer a workshop. It would be awesome to learn and stitch with you in person.
Your work and your videos are so great. Thank you . For a woman because of the measure of the chest would you make a cardigan the same way? Thanks. Carla
Dear Arne and Carlos, Could please let me know where in the US I could purchase the colorful yarn you've use to make the cardigan. I have looked everywhere. I would like to make a cardigan with the red color varigated yarn. Love your videos. You two have such great passion with the work and it shows in the video instructions. Thank you.
This video helped me a lot! I only have on question. When I hid the seam with my facing, there was so much garment that the sweater got very bulky. Is there something to do about it?
Thank you! I keep seeing cut steeks for necklines, cardigans, and armholes, but so far, had not actually seen how the armhole was handled. WOW! One question, will this method work for non-wool (sticky) yarn for instance, acrylic, or cotton?
Hi - thanks for the video. Lovely garment. Just one question, did your sleeve have any shaping? It looks like you just knit a tube without shoulder shaping.
Got you, Carlos, ha! I saw you knit (while Arne was sowing the sleeve in) the english way!! Was there a special reason for? Just teasing! Love you both so much.
I would love to have a handmade Arne & Carlos sweater. I wear an xl. Please send to Gemlik where I might never need it since it hasn't snowed here in a couple of yrs, but I will wear it anyway. 💙💙💙
Don’t you have to complete the first flower then join the second flower to the first flower, then continue with the rest of your flowers. I am going to enjoy doing this blanket. Regards from New Zealand.
Hello, this is a excellent method for a sweater, but I would like to do a crew neck sweater and not a cardigan. How do you go about measuring the opening for the neck and calculating the rib? Thanks
Can you steek to fix a knit that was joined in the round twisted (making the knitted item a mobious strip)? It makes sense to me in theory, but I have never tried it and wanted to know your thoughts. I have a test knit I am partially through. I noticed early on that it had a twist in it and I didn't care because it is just a test to see if my colour pattern looked right. However, I realized if it wasn't twisted I could actually use it for something. I was thinking of just reinforcing it, cutting it, twisting it to lay flat and sewing it back up. What do you both think?
so interesting. I am wondering how to measure for a woman....around the largest area of the chest? then would there be decreasing or increasing? is there decreasing/increasing on the sleeves? I want to try this.
If you are making an added stitch steek for a Fairisle sweater have you ever knitted a garment with a buttonhole steek. Say you make a two stitch buttonhole on one of the fronts, can you also make a two stitch buttonhole on the steek so that when you turn the steek into the garment the buttonholes correspond. I.e. there is no button band as such , just a faced front. Hope you can understand what I mean ! Would be a help to know if this does work out . Obviously you couldn"t do it with very thick yarn. Best wishes, Angie
I was gifted a handmade knitted hoodie where the sleeves are way too long and there is no ribbing at the wrist. Is steeking what I would do to shorten and add some ribbing?
