Acrylic pouring Medium: Fluid art
My home made pouring medium used for my usual work is a pre mix of 70% clear craft glue and 30% warm water, if in the USA Elmer’s glue all works well (most pva glues can be made up with same ratios to make a pouring medium), I add my pouring medium to my paint slowly until I achieve the consistency of pouring cream, approximately 50/50 more pm if needed, not all paint brands go well with this pouring medium, so just test out.
paint brands mostly used are the Global impasto paints, Amsterdam paints, pebeo paints, also Mont marte studio acrylics, or pouring paints.
I Certainly explore different brands and mediums, it’s all part of the learning process.
Also iv started to add a tablespoon of floetrol to each paint cup and stir instead of silicone for cells.
Extra special cell and lace and bloom like creation is found with Amsterdam paints add Aussie floetrol until correct consistency required, then used in pour or used to swipe details, “Aussie slides” are easily created this method.
If I add silicone this is what I do.
When iv mixed my paints I add 2-4 drops maximum of Helmar silicone, also Australian made, I stir in well.
I always like to mix up my paints and add silicone the day before I’m going to paint, and cover with a damp cloth, as I have found I have much better results.

Thank you for your construction and kind comments, I will certainly try this reverse stencil again and get a few more to try 🤗🤗 this one was from the www.caprioleshabbychic.com.au, ships worldwide 🤗🤗

Lovely. If you pounce the color on there is less chance for the paint to bleed under the stencil. Stroking it on can push the paint under the lines. That round sponge is actually called a pouncer.

I think this would of been pretty with a thin gold border around the stencil only, just the square and then leave the rest of the pour because I thought it was quite a pretty pour! You could see peacock feathers in the patterns you created! Maybe you could try a stippling brush and heavy body paint? Or a primer and then paint? Maybe even try airbrushing or spray paint. I think a primer would be great to cover the pour and even out the texture a bit!

To reduce visible bleeding at edges of stencil you could do a layer with clear "pouring medium" or other clear medium first let it dry somewhat and then "pounce" color onto stencil. This worked when I used a stencil on a wall that was painted and dry. Just an FYI.

Hey Gilly. There is a can of temporary adhesive called Krylon Easy-Tack Repositionable Adhesive. You spray this on the back of the stencil and it helps to keep the stencil in place. It also helps to keep down the possibility of bleeding under the stencil. Additionally, regardless of which applicator tool you use, it's better to apply the paint in a pouncing motion, as opposed to a brushing/swiping motion, ae this will also help to stop paint bleed. Always remove the stencil while it's still wet. Otherwise, you will never get it off once dried....not without causing damage to the stencil and the painting.

With stencils you need thicker paint so you don't get lines under. Use a dabber so it stays on top of the stencil. Definitely remove stencil like you did while it's wet. Great job! 😘

Beautiful! I think a gold border around the stencil or even paint the blue all the way up and put a gold border on each side of the middle stripe. If you use the dabber you will get less paint underneath. I know the make a tack-it spray you spray to the back of your stencil to help stick it down but I’ve never tried it on a painting before. It might work

Hi Gilly!! I do like it with the dark border, that way the peacock alone is highlighted. Do you think it's because you brushed the dark paint on, or because the paint was a little thin, that some color seeped under the edges of the stencil? I first thought that you used a blunt pen to outline each dark area after removing the stencil, then realized that it was (watery?) paint that seeped under the edges. Maybe dabbing WOULD work better, I don't know? As a practice, I think you learned a lot, even if it's just that you need to try some other things to maybe improve the outcome. I love the idea of using reverse stencils, like this one, do you have others? God bless Gilly and have a great week ahead!!
