By the way, the black stuff on the skylight frame is Flex Seal the owner used to try and fix it. Flex seal is the worst product to fix any leaks. Brilliant - this is exactly what I needed to learn! Have a flat roof w/ a skylight that is leaking. After re-torching EPDM & a membrane I've ruled out the external seams or base, so I believe it's the glass seal itself. I do NOT want to invest in a whole new skylight -- this is a great alternative solution!
I am glad I could help. In all on my 30 years of repairs using caulking, tar, and tapes, this is the best product ever I have found to do almost any roofing repairs with, especially skylights.
Hi my skylight has condensation forming in between the two glasses and it seems the corner of the outside glass is coming loose from the inside glass. It seems the glue is coming off between the 2 glasses. How can this be repaired as can’t seem to access between the 2 glasses and add glue? Hey Doc, I like watching your videos, nice work you do. I have 34 year old sky lights, that I'm looking to just replace the plastic bubble. And I'm having issues finding them. Not sure if you would know, but if I can't find a replacement can I use a flat piece polycarbonate plexiglass cut to size, do you think that could work for me. The frame is in excellent shape, and the screws are on the top of frame down. Not coming in from the sides. Hope you could answer my question. Keep up the good work
How about an extension where the brick wall meets the frame/glass? Any good ideas how you can get up there too as it’s like a half extension that only has access from the front and upstairs window .
Lol sorry basically I have a conservatory leak where the conservatory meets the original outdoor brick wall. Just need to know how to fix this leak as it comes through with heavy rain . As the conservatory is only small and has a angled glass roof how would you get access to reach the section of the leak as it’s only reachable from the front or the upstairs room window that looks down on the conservatory ! Hey Steve This is a Polyester Fleece that gives the Turbo Poly Seal its strength and flexibility when applied over joints between 2 metals, bricks, mortar, and chimney caps. This is the secret for being an outstanding product. Turbo Poly Seal will adhere to any surface as long as it is clean but not to EPDM rubber.
Hello, Doc. So, is this like a liquid rubber actually? And would it be wise to do a whole roof with it as a prevention? (It would be like a chocolate roof) :-)
This is a Liquide Silicone with urethane in it. It is white. I have used Super Silicone Seal on fairly big patches. 10 ft x 10 ft. I think it is expensive to cover the entire roof with it. It is a super product with a price. Turbo Poly Seal, on the other hand, is Urethane Bituminouse Resins. Also a pricy product but excellent. Both of these products are excellent for repairs.
Hi Jim The flashing is causing the leak around the skylight. You need to watch this video and I think it will help you why the flashing is causing the leak. Flat roof doctor I've been watching some of your videos you also seem to use a product called super silicone has that superseded turbo poly seal? Is there one application where one is better than the other for repairing skylights?
Ok. Turbo Poly Seal I think is much stronger. It is definitely easier to work with because of the higher viscosity. I also used Super Silicone Seal in many areas on the same roof to test. I was shocked to see it performed just as well. I was a little harder to use because it is more liquid. I think there is a place for both. I think if you are down south, like Florida, Texas, Arizona, then I would recommend Super Silicone Seal. It is UV stable and will last a long time. If you choose to use Turbo Poly Seal, then I do recommend that you protect it with Silver Coat Protection against UV's

Hi Asella Yes, I did use Turbo Poly Seal to repair skylight leaks but, it takes much more prep. Super Silicone Seal will stick much better to any surface with little prep
