Izzo, with all due respect your wingchun will never work in the street. you are to tight to muscle bound, to slow .stick to your wrestling, and leave the wing chun to those who could truly do it.

I'm gonna hit him as though he threw the punch anyway....If you're in WC you'll know or at least understand when I say that I'm gonna pak sau ( Not Playing but blast it ) your lead limb and strick you until Jesus comes.. People don't even talk about the true leg work and foot placement of a simple pak sau... @@paksau1 it’s 2022 and people still quote the ridiculous “it’s not the art, it’s the man or fighter”. This ridiculous quote was started by fake masters to fool their gullible students into believing they were at fault. When in reality, the Bullshido martial arts they were teaching were useless. I was a wing chun practitioner long ago, and I thought I could beat any one with one or two hits, and that I was able to watch every punch thrown at me. Then I had a real fight and I landed a few punches, but I also received a couple od hits and I understood that most people under adrenaline rush are stronger than they look, so I had to improvise a headlock (I never had experience at grappling) and even when I won, I never wanted to fight again.

I'm glad you brought up the problem of only staying in one spot during combat. It's a problem many martial artists have, with the exception of boxers, who in my opinion have the best footwork for combat. I'm sure Traditional Martial Arts once had footwork similar to boxers in the past, but sadly it's the whole watering down of styles that has caused this problem. If you want to learn how to defend yourself, First Rule: Learn how to take a punch 👊
@SilatShooter

Appreciate your more realistic approach to how things can really happen. Soo many videos focus on techniques where the instructor knows exactly what's coming at them and at speed they can easily handle (and look good doing so). On the street you can anticipate the punch but it may not be thrown the way your partners in training have thrown them or it's a different punch. So I like the what you speak of here about attacking the mass. Thank you.

This is a great video it highlights a key aspect of Wing chun which most people neglect which is simultaneously attacking and defending.. This is what gives Wing Chun and edge over even a boxer, I would love to see you explore this more. As an example a boxer will parry, then punch or dodge then punch but, in wing chun as you showed here it's block and punch in the same movement, all while moving forward...the same with evasive turning movements you turn and punch in the same movement... Most RU-vid Wing Chun fights always fail in using this concept ofcourse it's really hard to achieve too. You highlighted it here perfectly! Great video as always!

You’re right and while I agree with the concept of striking to the centreline and not chasing punches; the reality is that it is the hardest concept or principle to apply. The danger is inexperienced practitioners will take the theory literally as the solution and it’s not. These principles require thousands of hours of sparring and fighting for it to work. If you don’t do that then all it is, is ‘theory’ and let’s face it: there are many WCers that ‘talk’ theory and lack genuine ability or experience.

Please don't take this as disrespect. But I'm going to ask if you can create a companion video showing a real jab. As a boxer - arm length and speed are crucial elements not being shown here. As well as the stutter fake ( Tyson Fury loves doing this, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s is almost imperceptible) Maybe if someone doesn't know how to fight they might leave their arm out there to trap, but a boxer will test the waters with a light jab and if you attempt to trap and it fails, they'll set up a stutter fake double jab and follow with a straight. IF that doesn't take the wing chun practitioner out, then the boxer will have lost due to closing the gap and being in close range for trapping, etc. As always infinite respect and you have another excellent video.

Honestly I don’t need to. Here’s the deal, we don’t wait. We have no clue if someone on the street is a boxer, wrestler or bar drunk. So, we JAM IN immediately. Not going to wait to see if you jab correctly or not. If it’s a fight, I’m going right in no matter what.

The reason you do want to wait until the fight starts, is because nearby in the shadows, there may be a police person, that will jump out and attempt to arrest you for starting the fight. This happened to me, as the guy was raising his hands I punched both his hands to his sides and pushed him away in two, fast and accurate, motions, because I chose such technique, they let me off due to my claim of self defence.

Wing chun effectiveness is illusory. It works alright against someone who is not fighting back effectively but does not work against western boxing. That's not how I expected the video to go. Good on you. As a WC practitioner who has never been in a real fight but constantly bears it in mind I know the techniques will only help me when rolled into my natural instincts and reactions. If you are too robotic with the formulaic movements and ignore those you're gonna get clapped. Use the WC tools to increase your chances of survival and don't be fooled by the mantra of letting them come to you and think you can just keep defending cus it's so unlikely that'll work. Retreat (or make it look like you are) and come back in of course. But as the sifu here says, you need to attack first to win

I'm a chinese learnt wing chun (but not long time), I would say that many wing chun "user" on youtube didn't perform wing chun well becoz they only knew the movements, they knew the theory, they practised very well but they lacked of something important to use wing chun properly. Wing Chun is not only a set of movements controlling the enemy, Wing Chun is a spirit, a way of being alive person, you should "use" it as a whole part of your body and spirit, you would aim on what you want so as to adjust your movements for the reality. Many fake kungfu masters have the same problem, they just use it to fight, but they don't use it to live, I mean the principles of Wing Chun, they don't really get it, they just want to be like in the movie or something they imagined very good, but it has to be knocked out by anyone even normal people... however, if anyone want to blame KungFu is useless, please be noticed that, there is no useless KungFu, but there is useless person.

It is 2023 and you guys still cannot separate street fight, from sport fight, to sparring... You can knock out a UFC fighter on the street, by suckerpunch... WHY? ATTENTION!!! Street fights start different to sport fights usually there is no preparation... That is what IZZOs approach good aginst!!! Wing Chun is not for sparring!!! It gives you one, or two, MAYBE 3 chance to finish the fight... That is it!!! Chi sau, and other stuff comes into play ONLY if you failed the first attack, or hands are in the way... @@counterpunchboxing9164

I wonder why there aren't any Wing Chun boxers, should be very interesting.

Maybe because the Wing Chun guys are off doing what they do, Wing Chun. While the boxers are doing what they do, boxing. If you're a Wing Chun master, you're a master of Wing Chun. Fascinating isn't it. Because martial art isn't just the discipline of the physical, its emotional, mental and spiritual. The physical discipline of the external martial art technique is merely the foundational substrate and physical form upon which the higher disciplines are then able to be developed and take a form. To which the then the spiritual body of the master is able to take form. Integration and realization of these aspects must then occur before he attains actualization. Which is the point at which the adept achieves initiation into the order of Master. This isn't doesn't just take an entire lifetime, but its accumulation of all of the Souls lifetimes and experience. The fundamental nature of the individual initiate choosing the path of Mastery in a chosen discipline is that remains true to the path. Thats the true nature and characteristic of a Master. Anything that doesn't resemble this is what it is, and something else.

I use a simple, intelligent technique that, of course, takes a LOT of Practise. Rather than just try to "Beat the opponent to the punch," the very micro-second I sense a strike coming, I use an extremely quick lateral, or, side-step. This way, I am momentarily out of his range. However, if the guy 'adjusts' rapidly---I have a back-up plan; I ins- tinctly Cover up with the forearm closet to my opponents striking Side, just in case he's attempting a 'Hook, or some such strike, I may duck, or, 'bob low, so he will not hit me. As I do this, I'm also now 'Shifting my weight to my Opposite side. At this point, I may Employ a 'Ridge hand,' to either his crotch, or his stomach...Or, I May even apply a Muay Thai Knee to his gut, after using one or two hands to bring his torso down a notch. Mind you----This sequence of movements take place in a Heart Beat! That's why I say...It takes PRACTISE!

The most effective way to stop a punch 🤜 is by parrying the throwers fist directly onto your elbow. Resulting in the attackers fingers being broken when enough force is applied. Therefore no attacker will want to carry on his attack with one hand. Simple.

Oh man, I turned that off after 2 minutes. I've been doing wt for years, but fending off the blow like that is nonsense. If someone is taller or stronger, or has long arms, you won't stop the blow that way. You'll get that really hard against the head.

The principle is sound, if U also nail it hard enough to stop their follow-up, but if U hit first too early, the DA is going to eat U alive when the other guy & his witnesses drag U into court.

As a noob, the first thing I could block is using with Bong Sao for any punches. I kinda need to improve my reflexes in order to save my ass. Wing Chun was meant to express like a meditation and for defending, avoiding unnecessary violence. I had my anger issues. I expressed out without casualties by venting through Sil Nim Tao.

Does not matter where Wing Tsun happens or is practiced. I'm from Poland and I have been training WT for 7 years. These advices are most important, i think, wherever your school is. Author is honest and autenthic in this movie. It's worth to listen him. Typical american pragmatic method how to show the knowledge. Great thanks and good health:) Feel ghost!
